Sometimes it's hard to put people into anime if they have preconceived ideas of it. My friend's gateway was Haikyuu because he played volleyball. And I tried to put him on for years. Now he's finished Naruto and is almost caught up in One Piece. I think its a timing thing too. People change and are in the right state of mind to enjoy it.

Clarification on Food Wars: it is about food. Its like a cooking show. People are having orgasmic reactions to how good food taste. There is no sex, there isnt even any nudity. Its all just implied. I loved it bc i love food and cooking shows. The story is good too! Ive only seen whats available on hulu, but I'm all in! Im contemplating adding crunhyroll streaming so i can see the rest.

Before I watched season 2 of Vinland Saga, I heard a bunch of people say that it was boring and slow. I finally watched it myself and was blown away. It has very little action/fighting, but the plot and character development is top-tier.

If you want some more fun, tidbits, for how much work they put into these anime. The opening and closing songs for this series change halfway through. You’re right about the series being about a cat and mouse game. The first half the opening and closing are from perspective of Light. If you look up the lyrics, they’re about being God of this world and being righteousness. The second opening song is a metal song and is very angry, but if you look at the lyrics, the person singing is repeatedly calling someone a human over and over again. The song is basically denying that the person is a God and repeatedly humbling them, and telling them they’re human. So this song is from L’s perspective. It’s always really fun to look at the work they put into the stylized openings and the little hints that they put in all of the weird things that you see. Like sometimes when they pan over a cut scene it’s more symbolic of some thing than it is just a cut scene. You can get into a whole bunch of theories about Ryuk being into apples, having to do with with him being like Eris the goddess of chaos. And how the death note was his apple like how Eris threw the Apple that started the Trojan war. You could get into theories about how him being into apples has to do with like the original sin, and how the apple is knowledge, and how writing the death note is comparison to having knowledge of empower over life and death, and therefore you are forbidden from heaven it’s a whole thing. Anime gets deep.

I’ve seen the anime and the live action. However this kinda makes me want to rewatch it 🍎 It’s cool seeing someone newly develop a genuine appreciation of anime. Kev there is a difference between Ecchi (Food Wars) vs Hentai(Boko no Pico) sorta like Cinemax after midnight vs Pay per view channels after midnight. Once you learn the tags/categories of anime the less likely you are to watch something outside of your comfort level. From your reactions you seem to be more inclined to enjoy Phsychological Seinin anime at the moment. However if you want a good sports anime, Haikyu!! is a surefire good time.

I’m loving you enjoying these anime! If you’re going to keep going. Watch Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood. It’s a remake of an original series. Really good action, plays into some Alchemy and family dynamics. Big sacrifices and stakes on the line. There’s comedy but a good heavy storytelling and character progression

Food wars does not have any nudity. It is an anime about a cooking school that is so prestigious and the food is so delicious that people's cloths explode off of their body. It's played more for laughs than for fan service. It's not even clear if the person is actually naked or if it's just a state of mind. Either way it's censored. I'm a cook and I really want you to watch food wars. Toriko is also a good food anime.
