Boers do not originate from the Dutch majority but from the impoverished folks the VOC dumped at the Cape. The first original White arrivals were brought out as servants of the VOC & were mostly of German & Frisian ethnic origin -most of whom were flooded out of their homes by the VOC & later forced to accompany Jan Van Riebeeck to the Cape- as well as small numbers of Dutch. These arrivals often came from other areas now part of current day Germany & make up the bulk of the Boers ancestry.

Many were let go & became free citizens in an attempt by the VOC to cut costs. 35 years later large numbers of French Huguenot refugees escaping political & religious persecution in France were sent to the Cape (where TerreBlanche came from) & viewed Africa as their new home. Along with German Protestant refugees. The Boer people are a composite & amalgamation of the various groups which merged into distinct Afrikaans speaking successive groups & began to trek inland into the Cape frontier.

At least there are middle-class blacks today, whereas during the apartheid they were treated as lower class citizens. Like it or not, that's a huge difference. Boers are not Afrikaners, are not Dutch decendants, were not colonials nor did they ever speak Dutch. Just trace back the surnames of many Boers. Many were changed to the Dutch spelling but many did not especially the French names. These first original German arrivals to the Cape spoke Frankonish which was related to the more common dialect of High Dutch which is quite different to modern German & was a cousin of Dutch. A number of Germans also came later to Southern Africa during the 1700s

i left rhodesia when i was 4 yrs old but i know more about south african history than most black people. i was a baby when i was in africa and it wasnt even my country. population of south africa.. the region because it wasnt defined by todays borders... was about 1 million white and 4 million black. it was empty. no farms except what the whites built with their hands. no mines. no stone construction. ever heard of the stone age. the locals hadnt even reached that level of civilization. with the exception of the zimbabwe ruins which were built by middle eastern settlers who were their only for the gold. when they left it was back to straw and mud huts. should be saying thank you for introducing modern civilization. now can you keep it........ thats the question.
