Hold up now. I was the one who partnered with an Animator Mark L. Sparks to create Death of Hope and he screwed us on various levels. Their are interviews of Mark talking to other KZbinrs about how I came to him to get this project created and that he liked the story and idea that I had for this. And the fact that I was connected to different black Library authors and forge World writer Alan B. who was my mentor who unfortunately did not get to see Death of Hope before he died of cancer. Which is why in the opening trailer / episode it says dedicated to Alan. Mark decided that he was going to use death of Hope to launch his Fame within the community even though he was already working for Coalition Studios AKA Gears of War. Mark would not listen to my counsel and decided that he wanted to argue with a lot of fans and people on social media on various platforms and violating some of games workshops basic license agreements and conduct of interactions with other people was given a legal letter to stop working on the Project. Mark did not care apologize and then basically said effort I'm going to do what I want to do since I'm the lead animator and took the credit for being the director writer concept artist which he did do all of the digital artwork and animation and rigging but when it comes to the storyline and the original concept of everything that was me when they came to went to contact different voice actors and people of social media that was me when it came to getting the green light from black library to move forward that was me, when it came to contacting chapter Master Valrak to play the voice of the Imperial fish tech Marine that was me, there were other people on KZbin who asked me not to speak about their names who are a part of the community and I will respect that. Mark decided that he was going to then take death of Hope in a different direction and after working on the episode that had my scene with the woman in the baby who's collected by miracle Mark and I part ways after Twitter and the Warhammer Community imploded due to his choice of attacking the fandom because he doesn't like change. There was a contract that I was working towards us getting with Gabe's workshop and their entertainment department but unfortunately because Mark likes to argue with people we lost out on that. Death of Hope originally was going to be a four to eight episode miniseries of short stories taking place on that particular planet with members of different legions making an appearance along with different humans to fill out the gaps and create intricate storyline and character development. It was a love letter to the Hobby for the fans by the fans. It was also used to show against workshop that enough is enough stop dropping the ball and give some good loving quality to the hobby. Which when we did that it did cause a stir. It also calls them to raise the bar of their quality within their marketing and digital Outlook of things within the community and their future projects moving forward. There was also a great influence of our trailer that influence the cinematic opening of Battlefleet Gothic 2 which a few people made a video showing side by side comparison shots of our stuff that came out first and then we see the later Battle Fleet Gothic 2 opening next to ours. It is sad how things turned out because we could have been making really great animations for the hobby for the fans and paying tribute to the Legacy that Andy Chambers and many others laid the foundation for. Honestly no one likes to be betrayed by someone who they consider to not only be your friend but to be your brother to flip the table from underneath you with the project and say "f it all I'm going to do what I wanted no one can stop me and if GW tells me to stop that oh well I'm just going to move on to my own personal projects like I have planned to !" Which is what Mark did then after a while as we were originally showing people this is what you can do when you have people who not only love the hobby but want to make something good and this is with literally little to no budget. If we had a budget then there's a lot of other animators and people that I would have loved to bring on who would have had a more professional Outlook and ethics of work but I put my trust into a friend who eventually screwed us over. It wasn't just Games workshop putting their foot down on the indie animation field because Games workshop has hired a lot of the people who were making various indie projects and dedication to Games workshop which unfortunately we missed out on that opportunity due to bad business practice and egos of someone went to claim all the work for themself. As to which I'm happy that I did not give him the scripts and ideas for the other four projects that I was asked to work on by select members of Black Library Lion friends with and other people in the hobby and the hobby community at large that I know personally. My biggest regret is that Alan did not get to see what he said he wanted to see before he died of cancer. He was a great mentor a wonderful person and amazing writer who is missed by many. I'm happy that a lot of people are enjoying the death of Hope work that was done but there is a lot of behind the scenes things that the puppet does not know I myself was told by select individuals to walk away from the project so that in the future I can work on certain other things properly. I also want to thank you for featuring this on your channel and the time that you put into making not only this video but all of the videos that you make and you're positive influence and support to the community at Large. Your breakdowns of all of your videos is something that I enjoy and look forward to and how you share a hobby and a positive sense cheers to you good sir. And you will continue to have my support along with many other people's support for years to come. Also cheers to your attention to detail and your pacing not just because of making sure that the videos don't get taken down but your breakdown of a lot of videos is very key and I am now going to watch the rest of your video because I had to stop at literally 50 seconds into this video to make this post to speak out once again publicly about what happened with this project that I worked on with other people and a story that I was developing in which unfortunately like the imperium was betrayed. Imagine you're the crater and producer of a project and you get listed only as the lower master and a voice actor in your own project this is why I've gone back to only working on official projects for various IPs. I'm sure that Mark will eventually make his counter comment post response to this and probably some of his other friends who he has told other things too but again the evidence is already there there are other interviews that has been done over the years with other KZbinrs and even brother Chapter Master Valrak knows this as I spoke to him about this years ago after asking him to be apart of my project. Regardless I wish Mark and his wife a good life we had a golden opportunity, sometimes she hit sometimes you miss. Major Life Lesson learned on my part, Cheers .

I also want to speak on something on as I said attention to detail which is something that Mark and I bonded on. One of the major things that we needed to get across to the public was showing attention to detail on a scale that respected the Lord and respected the artwork of not just the first generation of 40K but onwards to the current. Using a lot of the original artwork from back in the day all the way up to the forge World Books was key to design of the various characters all of the weapons the War gear as we like to call it all of the vehicles the architecture of the buildings in the environments had to be organic and 100% Grim dark in the Sci-Fi setting. Which is something that was greatly lacking in a lot of the other projects and animations that we saw over the years though dawn of War 2 in many ways was a great example along with the first Space Marine game that was brought out the attention to detail was Top notch and has been improved on which as we can see in the new space between two game that's going to be coming out the attention to detail is strong. And we wanted to show respect to that foundation. Versus a watering down of that which shows laziness on the part of other projects no names needed Norris's an attack on other creatives of GW in the past this is showing again I love for the standard being raised on a level that wasn't seen before. Cheers to the guy who did the Lord Inquisitor project and the Astartes project. They in many ways of carrying the torch along with all the other people that's a part of the Warhammer entertainment department for digital media. Another thing that I would add is showing the details in the models which Mark did spend a lot of time on I believe in giving people respect words due the codex artwork from the previous editions was also used as a standard because who wouldn't like to see the codexes brought to life and beautiful rendered animation which was one of the main goals and why I saw him out as an animator in the first place. Also as a hobbyist I wanted to see these things and I still want to see these things on a grand scale. Some people it's not a lot of people love to Terminator scene showing the weight of the terminators walking yet still being agile was important and that was something that we didn't really get to see and previous Warhammer media even in the video games we still didn't really get to see the weight of the terminators when they walked and fought. Getting the vultures to sound good was important which is why a particular sound engineer who also did the soundtrack was brought in, a very cool brother. Also for people who enjoy reading the black Library novels and other key thing is that we wanted to show the speed and Power of the Space Marines in their power armor doing what they do best. And that is what you got. Again all of the details and things that we brought into the storyline the character designs the set designs the music and the battles was to raise the bar and show that the hobby that we love can look absolutely epic and amazing if the right people are brought in to work on a project versus getting a quick cash grab like Hollywood likes to do which unfortunately especially as of late Hollywood has been dropping the ball a lot lately with a lot of action and sci-fi and fantasy spending hundreds of millions of dollars and they could have produced much better quality stuff. Cheers!

Wow man, thank you for sharing! That's some amazing story... Sorry it happened the way it did - I believe we all would love to see such amazing work continued! I want to thank you and the rest of the team that worked on that -- the detail, attention and thought that was put into this shows in every aspect. This and Astartes are the only two sources that -- to my taste -- show how Space Marines would look like fighting in reality. Speed, agility, horrible strength and scary, lethal efficiency -- that was captured SO well, especially in battle scene with Ultramarine with power sword. The use of sword itself was terrific as well - I believe its really a first time that it shown as intended, as cutting-all weapon, instead of glowing baton everybody else make it, for some reason. Grimdark also superior here, with some scenes shocked even me, with 40 years of movies and games under the belt. Tasteful, horrible and masterfully crated. Thank you

If you permit me..: Like any fan base, 40k fans eat their own. Mark’s only “heresy” was in stating his belief his art/animations/concepts were a more true and grimdark version of any 40k animation. As what Rick Priestly originally envisioned 40k with RT. On this assertion, Mark was correct. Yet, the vitriolic fan comments on disputing “grimdark” revealed the worst in many. What sets Mark’s work apart from so many others, even Astartes, is his lavish details to everything. Armor types are rendered as they should be; highly individualized pieces of art that represented why they would be salvaged (if possible) and prized by their chapter; passed from neophyte to neophyte as relics. When you watch other 40k animations the armor looks plainly “vanilla” in contrast to Mark’s careful love and attention on every Mark variant and chapter. Mark was a true student of early 40k and the absolutely stunning terminator is evidence of the pondering scale, which predated what terminators would later evolve to with Space Hulk. Mark shows what models he drew inspiration from. His work continues to set the bar, particularly in an age of “woke” where most animators and studios would bow to Bob Igor. 30/40k was always about grappling with the madness in all of us, which birthed Slaneesh and continues to fuel to warp - madness and raw emotion given form and mankind’s efforts to rise above it. Mark captures the scale and terror of that madness better than most. Thx.

That whole "fans eating their own" is typical of all communities that surround anything, that is after all the core basis of a culture, a set of ideas, works and beliefs. Warhammer is big enough both in community and variations in ideas to actually cause strife and division to occur since it is inevitable that those different ideals will eventually clash hard. Remember "female space marines" That is a strong example of what I mean. Female space marines go against many of the things that astartes represented in the minds of many fans. The astartes are an embodiment of warrior gods, An icon of masculinity. In Christianity, god has no gender but is always referred to as a "he". The reason is that "God" Is idealized as a "warrior". There are many philosophies that hold and bind masculinity to a strong "warrior culture". It's impact lasts even today and will probably never be severed since men themselves will probably never disassociate from some form of Warrior culture. Women on the other hand, absolutely despise many aspects that are core to warrior cultures. Things like strength, aggression, simplicity, violent defiance to tyranny, true independence, repentance, rationality to the point of disregarding emotions, devotion to icons of those ideas. Sub consciously, any guy who resonates with this spirit tends to dislike their deities being defaced and defiled for petty reasons like "tolerance" And "inclusion" That run counter to it. You do not make a God or angel bend to you You must bend and show respect to the angel/god you depict.

@@necrosteel5013 I don't have qualms with the rest of the comment but as someone who studied many faiths (not seeking a belief but rather pure curiosity) I've got to protest the notion that somehow Christianity's God is male because of any "warrior" archetypes bearing influence God, main gods of polytheistic pantheons and generally "the top dog" of any faith is male because of much more core characteristics. It's because of God being posited as a creator and the one who gives, He is considered male. It goes all the way to each and every cultural spin on yin and yang. Giver vs receiver Active vs passive The one who subdues vs subdued Provider vs the one that benefits So on and so forth. God being the creator of the world, the one who gifted life, instituted and enforced his order of things, and demands obedience in return for spiritual rewards. That's more of a reason. In majority of cases any "warrior" connotations regarding most such deities is a consequence of them being male, not a reason of them being perceived as male.

Like on Reddit they are very outspoken about their "professional" opinion and try to take the creations of others apart. Even tho most of these people suck ass when it comes to creating something on their own. Mark did the mistake to waste energy by going into keyboard fights with such people. Watching this evokes the brutal side of fighting like at 10 minutes between 11 it shows battle brothers. And also when people are being tormented by the warp is a classic, brought on by Tzeentch 21:50 to make them corrupt I guess.

Dude I’ve been learning and munching lore for about 3 years or so, a little longer playing the games, and through warhammer tv gone thru most of the series (which I really, enjoy as much or maybe even more than playing the games), whatever scattered movies, Pedersen’s Astartes, etc. but was completely and utterly lost as to what was going on in this fan made film. Still enjoyed it to an extent, but even with my man here guiding me and having some idea and background info on the whole Horus betrayal and shitty act, I still couldn’t make sense of most of what I was watching here.

I totally misunderstood it. I thought they had a plan of escape, and that’s what they were referring to. So I thought the ultramarine won, and now the others were released and they were going to take back the ship and expect their revenge. I thought that’s what the disturbances were about the tech priest was referring to. I didn’t know he took the Armor, I thought it was to show that he had succeeded in beating them. Now it was their time to revolt, win or lose.

Death of Hope was the prime reason why a zealous/toxic fanbase can only sabotage itself... who would have known if he had more support, what an awesome series it would have become if fans wouldnt trash the (in my opinion still aweseome) animation and if Mark Louis Spark wasnt so triggered by said critisism.... sadly shortly after its creation GW brought the Nuke down on fan animation so it wouldnt have mattered anyway but still. It could have been glorious

@@Hyde-dg7ef The animation just didn't make sense. While it was great in details and style, there's no real plot to anything. You're just watching different animation sequences that barely connect to each other. And that IF you could understand what people were saying, as the creator opted to not have characters speak English or even have subtitles. And the finally thing: the trailer promised a series set during the Horus Hersey. The animation takes place AFTER it.

@@jsloa1idk, the animation made sense to me and the plot was pretty simple to grasp. Revenge and the insanity of chaos. Yeah mark got depressed because some ppl shit on what was a pretty obviously a love letter to the franchise. We all have the thought that others will love an idea we come up with only to find out other ppl don’t share our point of view. Regardless of any of that I can see why GW shut down fan made things because it’s a) their copyright (animations and miniatures) b) other were making money off their copyright (crowdfunding and sale of 3d model files) and c) they were launching their own app to create animations and exclusive miniatures. On the other hand I also see the fan outrage over GW cracking down on the fan animations and 3d modeling. They’re showing their love for a franchise and filling the a void in entertainment that the ip owners weren’t filling. Truth is they’re both wrong. The fans are wrong because GW owns the ip and can do as they please with it and should be allowed to make or not make something they own, yet the fans are bringing interest to the franchise and bringing old fans and new ppl INTO the franchise where they will more often then not want learn about established “real” lore. Not everyone reads the books, or plays the tabletop games or watch’s the shows. There’s a ton of content for everyone. I don’t know what the right answer to this dilemma is but to me I’m pretty sure the right answer is somewhere in the middle.
