The Warcraft lore behind "Death of the Lightbringer"
In the embattled city of Andorhal, one of the last remaining Alliance strongholds in Lordaeron, Uther the Lightbringer and his fellow paladins fought valiantly against the undead Scourge. When the fallen Prince Arthas, now a death knight, raided the city seeking a magical urn for his dark purposes, Uther confronted him in an epic clash between the Holy Light and the powers of darkness. Uther initially gained the upper hand, his legendary Hammer of the Lightbringer trading blows with Frostmourne in a dazzling display of warring energies. The paladin's prowess even sent Arthas sprawling to the ground, disarming him momentarily. However, just as Uther prepared to strike the final blow, Frostmourne inexplicably returned to Arthas's hand, and the Lich King granted him a surge of unholy power. The battle turned in Arthas's favor, and despite Uther's bravery, he was eventually overwhelmed. Gravely wounded and kneeling before Arthas, Uther defiantly proclaimed his hope that a special place in hell awaited the fallen prince. Arthas coldly retorted that they would never know, as he intended to live forever, before dealing the killing blow. In his final moments, Uther prayed to the Light to save his soul, but Frostmourne shattered it into fragments, devouring one portion while another was carried by the kyrian to Bastion in the Shadowlands - a division not of noble and cruel aspects, but rather a frozen moment in time contrasted against the soul's continued journey.
