Soundwave killed Zeta when Optimus, Bumblebee and Sideswipe were at Kaon after he and Frenzy, Rumble, And Laserbeak seriously injured Soundwave took Zeta's lifeforce from him as Optimus almost chopped him with his Axe then Soundwave fired his gun at Zeta but Optimus took the hit for him he died that moment in quote: A noble sentiment Optimus, but I'm afraid I'm dead already..." Optimus steped up and became leader of the Autobots and was the last Prime The core gave him the matrix of leadership.

Zeta prime didn't need a machine if he vs megatron 1 on 1 zeta prime would have killed megatron and cybertron would have never falled and zeta would be in its rightful place of being leader not optimus.
