The criticism of PVE being stale, by the way, I'm sure is true for people who have played 10,000 hours like Airwing - but a lot of the people who play PVE, like my entire co-op group, have never seen max traders, never got kappa, never seen lightkeeper, and never experienced the end-game content. So it's not stale to us.

He mentioned what you just said in the video. But also did say, he believes WILL BECOME stale to people who play it a bunch. However, in my opinion, as a 3k hour player, 4th wipe now, to be honest, and im not being rude, i, just like the thousands of other players who only play pvp, had to learn and suffer and experience the great losses and joys and frustrations to become confident in enjoying the game. So think it's definitely a skill and patience issue. Alot of this could get worked out by playing arena and then going back and forth between that and normal eft, as arena is a great way to quickly and painlessly get tons of repetitions in with combat and movement mechanics. But hey people are going to do what they're going to do and never experience the insane adrenaline dumps and mass joy that in my 30 years of gaming, only this game can bring. If there were no pain, we wouldnt know pleasure, if no sadness, we wouldnt treasure happiness. Without chaos, we cant fully understand peace. This is essentially the tarkov experience. You get totally f*kd 2 raids, and the next is a total joy. 🤷

@TheHighsmith8 you are totally ignoring the fact that many people have jobs and no time to play. I got time for 1, maaybe 2 raids a day. That makes pvp a real pain in the rear with the tasks, especially if I get interrupted by a cheater or something even worse; a rat.

Most people arent lmg try hards or streamers so the challenge offered in pve is actually perfect. This video is from the prespective of a streamer. But most casuals acctually get farther into late game content or mid compare to pvp. Also all your death in pve are atleast fair in purpose. Since ai dont gain anything by killing you. Pvp players cheaters will kill you at ranges and angels ypu never see or spots that requite you jump invisible walls to get a advantage no one knows or sees. Also you goota be great at spotting and reacting to compete in pvp. So yea that auto puts the skill gap high for casuals.

its simple: pve doesn't have sweats. it is casual without sacrificing the hardcoreness of the game itself. it is just an unranked mode. unranked in rocket league isn't any different than ranked, it just doesn't "count" so people don't sweat as hard. pve is the same thing. it also makes the game more of a looter shooter than a battle royal. it is closer to the division, which i feel is a lot of what people want.

For me, it's not even that it's more casual or "unranked". I often play competitive games like Overwatch 2 or CS2, yet I much prefer Tarkov PvE. Also, I have plenty of game time a week... maybe 5-6 hours on weekdays and 8+ hours on weekend days, so I'm not a casual by any means lol I just can't get myself to play Tarkov PvP because it's a huge waste of time, even with all that time I have to play: If I play 5 competitive games of Overwatch 2, that's about 2 hours of gameplay. Say I lost all of them, I only lost rank in those two hours. Now, if you play 5 straight raids of Tarkov, that's potentially more time invested in total, as well as the possibility of not just losing your kit, but also a quest item you may have been searching for a while, or heck, even ending up with not enough money to buy a kit/gun/ammo you like to run. For me, the biggest pain points that Tarkov PvE solved are: -Wipe every 6 months or so, more specifically being able to reach level 45+ and Lightkeeper before wipe, which I've never done before and I intend to do in PvE -Cheaters -Sweats -Desync -Queue times, which in PvE feel closer to OW2, around 2 mins at most

The biggest paradox in tarkov is the PVP players constantly pushing to cater the game around people with streamer levels of time to sink into the game and then crying when the casual audience leaves to play PVE. It's also worth noting that PVE isn't for you Airwing, you play the game more than 99% of the playerbase and PVP is already catered to you. PVE is for the people who can't play the game half as much as 99% of the player base

I think the one thing streamers fail to keep in mind is that they are rarely ever playing this game alone or with just their friends. They have an audience to entertain, money on the line, people feeding them ideas and challenges to keep the game fresh. Most players do not have that they are either playing solo or with a friend or two and they don’t have anything but their time on the line so when things like cheaters, giga chads, desync, poor audio all ruin the few hours they get to play, there’s no reason to play PvP. Very rarely these days does PvP offer those moment to moment things streamers talk about. Tarkov has been around for a while now that you can pretty much predict what will happen for each map you play with vary little deviation unless it’s someone who hasn’t played enough to know where all the key areas are for loot or fights. PvE is easy no doubt about it but it’s also just fun and doesn’t make people want to break their monitor when all they wanted to do is chill with their friends for a few hours and game not sweat their nuts off like they’re competing in an arena esports tournament

The proof of the scale of PvP's problems is that in 500 hours and several hundred Woods raids, I never ONCE saw a LedX or a keycard and only ever found a bare handful of moonshine. In ~20 PvE raids I've found 4 LedX, a Violet card, and over a dozen moonshine. The vacuuming was real. I honestly wouldn't be playing Tarkov at all if not for PvE. I'm questing further than ever before, my hideout is further along than ever before, I'm playing maps I used to avoid, my overall weapons skills are improving. PvE and PvP are two completely separate games to be honest. I definitely see the lure of PvE for those that doesnt have the time or are willing to make the time for PvP and that is completely fine and it makes Tarkov an enjoyable single player FPS with tons of content and challenges for those who wants that. On the other hand i as a fast leveler and PvP W key chad find that PvE simply takes the nerve out of the game. Every PvE raid i did, ended up being one of those MONSTER raids that you get from time to time in PvP, where you kill a bunch of PMC's do all the tasks you have at hand for the raid you go into and find all the loot you can dream of and extract with no issues at all. Both versions serves a purpose and PvE definitely makes Tarkov more accessible to the masses which is only a good thing.

I have had enough time with the FPS aspect of the game to get good enough to hold my own solo against teams. The reason I play PvE is because I enjoy the quests, I enjoy having tasks to complete. Primarily my goal is to experience Lightkeeper. I have no desire to unlock Lightkeeper in PvP because that is a massive chore, and boils down to pretty much working a second job. But in PvE I can take my time with the quests and enjoy them instead of being in a panic trying to rush them because some group of player scavs is gunning it towards water treatment and I'm stuck in there looking at 20 spawns for a flashdrive.

Adding a prestige-style mode to encourage wiping would be an excellent addition to PvE. Rewarding players with unique skill elites, special trader(s), etc. PvP is too toxic for me to ever play again. To deal with inflation creatively, a Flea Market system that perhaps targets more affluent players with raids on their bases, having to hire contract guards and other ideas could be implemented. This game mode could lead to a really exciting evolution of the game with some form of cross-over between modes as well in the form of events, scav reputation and Fence, and other interesting incentives to play both modes. Definitely a savior. I gave up on playing Tarkov couple months ago, but since PvE became a thing, I play about 3-6 hours a week and I like how I can enjoy "casual gameplay" since I do not need to worry about cheaters or wipe. Thanks to PvE I started playing on maps that I did not enjoy playing before (Labs, Streets, Reserve), I experiment and play around with all sorts of weapons and armours and in general have a good time. When you put away all the meta stuff and need to play as a sweat, the game feels different, different in a good way.

The Activision white paper about SBMM is extremely prophetic of what currently and will occur to Tarkov PVP mode since it lacks any sense of SBMM. TLDR, games without SBMM have lower player retention, lower satisfaction from players, and reward only the 10% of players. However since the bottom 90% are the most common place for attrition over time that top 10% shrinks and then the players who are no long in the top tenth start to get disinterested and eventually leave as well and the cycle continues. That is why it feels like you need 500 hours in game to begin to see real progress. Several hundred hours is the minimum that player skill needs to reach to have a win rate that is even within a relevant ELO range of the typical player. This issue is compounded by the fact that gear and item progression also severely impacts your odds at winning in pvp and you have a game that is extemely punishing to anyone not playing the game under what is effectively a part time job in hours. Tarkov has managed to stem the bleeding with the wipe system bringing back lower skill players only for them to engage in the fun parts of progression until eventually the churn of PVP grinds them away. PVE is where frustrated players move to who would otherwise quit Tarkov entirely go to. PVE is retentive for the playerbase more than accretive.
@RvEijndhoven
@RvEijndhoven Ай бұрын
One of the most interesting elements of that study Activision commissioned on SBMM, to me, is that they noticed that it lead to much greater over all player retention, but that there was one segment where retention was negatively affected: Players who the system considered as highly skilled, but once they were put up against players considered equally skilled, their estimated skill level quickly dropped and these players had a tendency to not stick with the game. These players are, of course, the segment of players who yell loudest about how they are into hardcore PvP, but who quickly lose interest once they get _actual_ PvP instead of just being able to flex on new players. And I find that interesting when I look at a certain segment of the Tarkov playerbase who hate(d) the idea of PvE servers for Tarkov and claimed it would kill the game while also claiming to be into Tarkov for the 'high risk, high reward' hardcore PvP... Because I guarantee you not a single one of those mofos so much as touched Tarkov Arena.

I’m a veteran of tarkov (playing since alpha with just one year break). and I used to play a lot and spent hundreds of hours. I have left the game about 1,5 year ago because it was to much frustration for me, to much bad emotions and those wipes were to often for me (even tho I always reached the max level traders moment). I’m back a month ago just because pve and I’m playing a lot again and I love it (lvl 54 now). No frustration, no gear fear and the AI is ok. Main goal is to get for the first time a kappa container but I’m afraid that can be the point when I’ll be bored because no further goal… but I will not get back to pvp at least to the full version of the game (I mean 1.0 release) when there will be no wipe.

I have no patience for PvP anymore. Cheaters, people playing 100% meta gear all the time, people just being way too good for me to deal with honestly, etc. For me it's PvE or just not playing the game. That said the PvP in Arena is super fun. If I could get my PvP action in Arena and then link it to PvE it would be aces. I like taking the game at my own pace, doing the tasks, not having to deal with hatchet runners and bozos camping objectives or extracts. It's just easier and more fun. I know that mantra of Tarkov is that it's not supposed to be "fun", it's supposed to be a challenge and to be rough. But I don't care, PvE is just more enjoyable to me. I'm just not skilled enough, and don't have the time to build the skill and knowledge to compete with better players. So instead I treat it like a singleplayer survival game. PvE has been an absolute blast for me. The thing with money is also kind of funny when playing Arena will make you megarich without even having to do any raids at all.

BSG recently disabled the AI PMC's giving out their location (THERE HE IS!) and seemed to have cranked up the AI which makes it a lot more challenging. Question - so are noticeably less people in PvP raids now? The beginning of the wipe is usually the height of concurrent players. Keep up the great content - nice to see you at almost 200k subs!

Gonna say something that I thought about the other day with a lot of quests the experierence from quests don't really add up very well to levels anymore I feel like back in the day when you are doing health care giving only something like 6k exp but signal giving 8.5ish k exp but it lined up with the level that you got them and other quests along shoreline and reserve the exp doesn't add up to the level that you get the quests anymore and some tasks just don't play good compared to others like the two examples above health care is much harder for newer players then signal but gives way less exp. I think that if they adjust this more players will hit level requirements for traders even if playing casual. not really good at explaining things but this is my two cents.

The best video you ever made imho. THANK YOU! With that said, Mr nobody here has approx. 1500 hours in the game, EOD edition, done 2-3 wipes getting to lvl 30 as my max before we got the PvE mode. I'm now lvl 50 in PvE and I have done a few raids in the new PvP wipe. Playing PvP really got me down in the start, as exciting as Tarkov is, the learning curve was hard even with good players lending a hand. An ingame map for a new player with the exist marked would be a huge help, I don't understand why you have to resort to 3rd party sites for this information (but that's a side topic). Getting killed in PvP by cheaters is just not something I'm prepared to do now that I have the PvE mode available, and if it was not there I don't think I would be playing Tarkov at all. The PvE mode has allowed me to play and learn maps that was simply "off limits" for me in PvP. I know you can run a map in explorer mode, but you never do. As you correctly pointed out Time is a valuable resource! Will I start playing more PvP now that the paid carry or cheaters might be a little less I really don't know tbh. I have tried other games like Delta Force and Arena Breakout, but they are shit compared to Tarkov despite all its faults and that Nekita is a Axxxhole for what he did with the Unhear edition. Again thanks for a great video I think you hit it spot on.

This is a great analysis of why the PvE mode is so popular. The most interesting thing to me is the high percentage of solo players now on PvE mode. It would be very interesting to poll those solo players that have switched to PvE, to see if they would go back to PvP if solo only queues were added.

There are ways to purge the PvE aswell. Events where you don't get back insured items, this even happens naturally as casual people sometimes don't make it back on in time to claim their insured items. They could also host events mid wipe that allow you to convert your account to PvP at the cost of it then being wiped later.

10:30 an idea that's been circulated a lot in my friend group is that the problem lies in the supressor meta, as it is having a supressor is a not even a choice since there's simply too many upsides and not enough downsides. the map subsequently feels empty as everyone sits shooting scavs with supressed weapons leading to zero knowledge about what the state of the map is, leading to even less reason to move around since there might be some guy with an M80 gun scanning that road, or that hill or whatever it is with the only way to know if players are around being grenades being thrown or scavs shooting. I was personally hoping supressor durability would be a thing this wipe but honestly I don't even think that will help since money is so renewable that it would just be included in the operating cost. A fix could be less upsides to supressors, or even a wipe where supressors aren't even available or only 9mm supressors are available, but as it is it just doesn't work. Nobody wants to be in a raid where everyone uses supressors.

I would appreciate a similar good-faith approach to the folks like myself who play SPT. I think the main reason people PvE is because it offers players much more control over several factors, such as time invested, the amount of stress experienced, and who they play the game with. SPT offers even more of that control, as well as the ability to try out all new content (such as new guns) or complete overhauls like Realism (which makes significant changes to every system like meds, ballistics, etc.) or Path to Tarkov, which turns the game into something closer to Stalker with proper map-to-map travel, much like the new "Marathon" mode. I gave up on live Tarkov years ago, and I'll never go back. Between cheaters, bad net code, and design choices that intentionally waste players' time, it was a terrible experience that just stressed me out. But with SPT, I can still play this amazing game exactly the way I want to, at my own pace, creating my own experience that is as hardcore or easy as I want.

You summed up my feelings perfectly. I can get 2-3 raids in an evening if I'm lucky; by the time I git level 15 in PvP my friends are closing in on 25-30. By the time I am 20, they are well into having all traders open etc. I don't have enough time to keep up, Ithe risk - reward cycle is just too punishing for my skills and time; with survival rate of 50 half the time I am not getting much out of the raids and usually end up push sniped, exit camped or just losing in a second. PvE has allowed me to play "risk free" and at my own pace without tryharding too much. Sure, PvE does not have the same highs as PvP so I'll probably end up playing PvP as well again after i get bored of PvE... but at the same time, PvE allows me to get a huge chunk of the positive Tarkov experience I crave pretty consistently and at a level where it still is enjoyable. Especially if they keep improving the AI and gameplay loop in PvE as well. Plus it has really allowed me to learn about the game much faster and easier than PvP did. Less stress allows me to focus on the games basics, like the tasks, the boss fights, map & loot layout etc. which is going to be helpful once I get back in PvP. All I can do is wait for my kids to get a bit older so I have more free time to game again... even though I'll be older and older, so we'll see how that goes.

I'm using it as a stepping stone to get into PvP just as you said, I have had the standard edition since 2021 and have played/quit numerous times as a solo player. The introduction of PvE has allowed me to become infinitely better in a few weeks than i have in years, I think this will overall save tarkov and allow for newer players to get into the game.

"You don't know what you're doing wrong in Tarkov until you hit 500 hours." Totally agree, and to illustrate the barrier, Before Tarkov my most-played games of all time were tied at about 300 hours each. At over 2000 hours, Ive only gotten max traders twice. The time investment is insane, so I appreciate that in PvE, I can stop playing for a month or two, and then come back like nothing's changed, no rush. The tension and triumph of fighting other players isnt there, but a lot of other things are. I might not go back to PvP until 1.0 drops.

One big reason for me is, I’ll spend like 20 mins in the menus setting up a kit, load into a raid, killed by the gigasweat (and hackers had 5 definites since wipe) and it’s just like ah yeah sure fun. It’s a good balance between hard but not crazy hard that I can still chill. I’m one of the couple hour a week guys so by now I’m already behind so many people in the wipe cycle that it just gets more and more unfair as time passes

Very good video with a very good and diverse opinion/view brought up to the community! For me it is mainly the skill issue part, I was more or less a new player two wipes ago and didnt enjoy it, tarkov is about knowing the map, the loadout the how to loot, where to loot, where you can run and where not etc. I played labs for the first time in pve, you simply just cant play the map as a new player. Its a pretty long learning curve taking off as you said far in the 400+ hours. For new players its like 90% of the time how did I die, than they go on social media and only see "chad" destroyes 5 stack or "cheater" problem in tarkov and they think ohh i only play against no lifer and cheater great. It is part of the game like everyone goes through it but I think its one of the hardest starts out there in a game. So i think many people arent having too much fun with pvp switching to pve doing one playthrough and are done. I dont think so many guys will see it as a playground, testing area because you play completly differently and when you would come back to pvp you would have still some frustrating issues. A big problem for me is the huge potential of the game and the so little things bsg is doing in my view. The hideout needs to load every single time when not used every 3 minutes or so, there are so many loading and just freezing moments, the lighting, even on new factory a new map, the sound, the performance. So many points to work on and in my view they improve too little to get more people back or into the game. No one is talking about new server configs, like in other genres. Skill or level based matchmaking, dou triple or lone wolf fighter servers where you can chose where to play or you cant chose. In some racing games you pay like 10 euros a month to have clear racing without unfair contact or just getting pushed off the track, you report someone 3 times hes getting a perma ban for this server. Tarkov needs to improve faster and in better quality some nice events like the travel around the maps arent enough with more competition around the corner...

People will return to pvp when the game stops periodically wiping. As a casual player putting so many hours into a game the constant struggle when I am under geared is fun but when I start to get good gear it all gets reset and that makes me not bother with the following wipe. It’s not just trying to compete in a race while handicapped, it’s like running that same race over and over knowing I am disadvantaged. That game loop gets pretty sucky

A lot of us don’t have the time to grind PVP and when you are behind playing against other players it sucks. I have played since 2018 and constant wipes has killed my joy doing pocket watch over and over and over. I agree with your video I have never hit max skills besides strength and metabolism. I’m a solo player and you are 1000000% right I do love the engagement of PvP fighting but I can do it on arena now and just have fun PvP when I feel like it and I can do task and play PVE when I feel like it

Yes to all of the above! I can't play much so having PvE not wiping helped me get past lvl1 traders and expanded the equipment pool so it was fun again. Would always get stomped by people with gear better than mine so I quit playing because I couldn't compete, wipe after wipe. I will say, I do miss the risk reward factor of taking cool items into raid and trying not to lose them, and I really miss the crazy fights that would happen against players. I would definitely come back to PvP if I were able to progress with any consistency, the challenge is incredibly fun!

I switched over to PVE along with a buddy and we are loving it. I have hit level 41 and during the wipe cycles I hit 29 as my max. The AI PMCs are plenty difficult and the latest wipe changes have the AI scavs hurling grenades with pinpoint accuracy so its rarely a cakewalk. I'm glad they released it.

PVE has brought my enjoyment back for Tarkov... yea it doesn't give you the thrill of a good PVP fight; it does give you the ability to chill and enjoy learning things you haven't experienced further down the line. Also, the exhaustion of wipe has always been that double edge. I want to get father into stuff during wipe, but time prevents it and then your discouraged about having to reset the whole thing again...

One point about the insurance being 100% return in PvE. I'm running about a 70% return on Insurance. I play my PMC with a friend and if he doesn't grab my gear there is a good chance that gear is gone.

PVE Tarkov brought me back to the game. I don't have any friends that play Tarkov so I play solo. So yeah, ultra hard mode for me. I also like the fact that my progress won't reset every so often and I'm not paranoid that I'm going to get zapped by another player within seconds of spawning in. I don't feel like I'm rushed or there's as much of a skill curve that I have to overcome to keep up with the other players.

All valid points man - solid video but one nitpick that I wouldn't expect you or most people who play pve to necessarily know about the insurance: I think that has some kind of weird balancing or scaling of some kind with PMC level. I can't really say for certain when I stopped getting full kits back but it was sometime around the high 30's early 40's. I still get at least part of my kit back like my rig, some of my mags, armor and / or maybe helmet but I'm consistently missing headsets, bags, and I couldn't tell you the last time I got a weapon back lol

I played SPT throughout the last wipe with modded hard bots. I feel doing the quests, learning the maps, and fighting Scav bosses, improved my gamplay 10 fold! Even my gunplay is better, since I don't panic everytime I see an enemy PMC. I think PVE as a tutorial is a really great tool.

I have been playing PvE tarkov this entire wipe so far and honestly, sometimes the AI PMCs can feel very similar to player PMCs. I have done scav runs on lighthouse and halfway through witness a firefight between Rogues and a group of BEAR PMCs, I manage to steal some loot from some of the bodies after the PMCs leave to go to the next building. I have been on woods with a scoped SKS and hear a firefight inside the med camp. I head over and its still happening. I 1 tap 2 of the last players and discover at least 5 other bodies lying around BSG actually did a very good job at making the game feel like it wasn't revolving around you. PvE, even though it is all about you, somehow feels like you are just in the world and the world isn't about you. I will hear gunshots in the distance slowly moving across the map, eventually I get to them and find a single lone BEAR PMC and a scav lying over his body. I hear gunshots and an explosion in the distance, head over and kill Partisan, find 3 dead PMCs in a corner all dead to Partisan

I love the learning and experience of doing things I've never gotten to in PvE... HOWEVER There is just an adrenaline high to killing a real player or outhinking a 5 man that PvE doesn't have for me. I enjoy one for the slow steady experience and the other for the competitiveness. I think ultimately both have SOMETHING to bring to the table to make a very enjoyable whole
