This castle felt so sad and alone.. when you got into a battle and 2:26 happened, it felt wonderful. The mood here was very well done

My most favourite track of all game. It's pure melancholy, and magic, plagued with good rythmes, but dude... this flute melody is stuck in my mind forever. Damn, I can feel even some Skyrim vibes here! Good job!

Fun fact: my mom paid me to like play piano music for her party for ambiance, so I played this song, she said after the party “that was really good practice is working!” I just found it on a free piano sheet online 💀

Amazing when music can make you feel cold. Speaks volumes of the composer. How do people who make music for video games do it? Are they shown or told about the level and it's feel? And then use their imagination to make it?
@Roxfox2 жыл бұрын
Depends on the game. Most often there's concept art and/or a summary of the story beats so the composer knows what mood the scene or level is trying to set. Mick Gordon has talked about how he used early concept art from the areas in Doom (2016) to figure out what instrumentation he should use for the different areas He saw stone structures held aloft by red lightning in the hell levels and tried to use an electric, buzzing synth to represent that energy, and went from there. More cinematic setpieces benefit from having videos of gameplay, the closer to finished the better, so that the composer can attempt to score it more tightly, almost like a movie. That's probably how something like Uncharted gets treated. For indie games it's not unusual for big parts of the game to be completed by the time the composer comes on board, so they may even be sent early versions of the game to get a feel for the parts they're composing for. That's how Terry Cavanagh and Magnus Pålsson practically ended up co-developing VVVVVV, as Terry hearing the music that was just finished for the area he just worked on resulted in even more inspired level design for the next, which inspired even more hype music from Magnus for that zone, and so on. In the case of Death's Door, I imagine it was a very organic process as the composer was also the level designer!
