Since you are the resident expert for DV (3 trips!), can ask your thoughts on something? We are going in spring for the first time. Our 1st full day we plan to hike Golden Canyon out to Zabriskie point; walk to Salt Creek Interpretive trail; walk at Badwater Basin/Artist Drive and make it back to sunset at Zabriskie Point (not full hikes- just enough to explore a bit maybe 1 hour'ish should be fine- plan to take some pics too.) I know things are spread out. Do you think we have enough time? Any other suggestions on must-see areas? Our first day, we arrive around 3pm. We plan to hike Mosaic Canyon and sunset at the dunes. We are staying that night in Stovepipe Wells. Thanks!

@@geko805 It was incredible. We arrived to a full on sand storm. We preferred our stay at Stovepipe Wells. Hiking the sand dunes was a lot of fun. You will get a workout no matter where you hike. We liked everything honestly. Zabriskie Point (and the fun hike below it), Golden Canyon, Artist's Drive, Badwater, and the dunes. Next time we will hike more in Mosaic Canyon. Dante's view was decent but a bit out of the way- not as good as I thought. It was also very cold and windy. Where are you coming from and where are you planning to stay- and how many nights? I think 3 nights is perfect. After that, if you have time, go hike Angels Landing at Zion NP. It is

I have never been to death valley, but I have been to the Southwest and the Rocky Mountains and it really felt like i got to experience it again. I enjoyed the road travel scenes and of course the lovely sunsets and sunrises, it made me think about how much time you must have spent there and where in the world you slept. It makes me thankful to think that in the US we have such lovely parks open and available to everyone to see and enjoy the wonderful things in nature.
@JohnS9166 жыл бұрын
Beware that the Trump administration and his hack interior secretary Zinke have approximately 25 parks on the consideration list to shrink or reduce to nothing, all for the interest of mining, oil and gas exploration. Just like they did in that unprecedented move in Utah. Don't let these corrupt politicians take away what is ours to enjoy! My local Tea Party congressman McClintock is hinting on doing some remodeling to Yosemite National Park, read between his lines and you know he is part of those catering to special interests and not the will of the people want, leave the fucking parks alone! If anything designate more of them, we need them as our connection to nature and separation from our exploding population. Death Valley is well managed and left in as natural state as you can get and still accomodates as many visitors who wish to see it's glory. The park didn't have any entry gates that I passed through, that will probably change with the administration talking about raising entry fees to a high level, more than what many people can afford to pay. Why would they do this? It's a scam to make it look like attendence has fallen off and so have revenues so that would justify commercializing the parks with hotels and Disneylike attractions. Mark my word, that is exactly what these corrupt fools are up to. Trump hates dogs, resists getting a dog for his younger son who wants one. Anyone who hates dogs has a screw loose, but we already knew that about Trump. Besides that, doesn't anybody find it strange he never mentions the kid, nor does he mention the second daughter as some have said because she doesn't have the "look" he likes. Some would also find it strange his comments he has made about Ivanka, the glorified real estate agent who is now are main negotiator in the Korean Penisula. Give me a fucking break. I guess now Jared will have to get his secret classified information from her since hes no longer allowed to see it and pass these on to foriegn adversaries as payback for the loans he's trying to secure to bail him out of the huge debt he's in. Maybe with his DNA, he will wind up in prison for financial crimes just like his old man did! The dudes compromised, just like Trump is and many in the ignorant sector here don't give a crap, they want their nationalist agenda pushed forward.

I have always been fascinated by geology and Death Valley has fascination in abundance. Looking at Telescope Peak in the background covered with snow brought back many memories for me. There is a trail to the top and the view is magnificent beyond belief. Look it up on Google and then if you can, GO there. I worked at Furnace Creek Ranch in 1971 as a horse wrangler. Laid off in April. Watching this I cannot believe how crowded the place is. California has too many people. DV was a National Monument back in the 70's and 80's, the last time I visited it.
