I think in some cases certain characters can't die simply because of who they are not because of what they're capable of. For example there's a collective agreement that Shazam can't beat superman but at the same time superman's weakness aside from kryptonite is magic. Shazam is as magical as it gets. He's a combination of six gods. Not one. SIX. it has been stated that his strength has no real limit. Punching holes in reality and all that. The archmage he draws the authority of being Shazam in the first place is on the council of God's that watch over the entire universe along side the spectre. That's as close to the actual God (the presence) as you can get but because he's up against DCs poster boy he will get clapped everytime

That's why it doesn't make sense for him to go inside the helmet as the Eye will show that too. Once he removed the helmet he could kill the wearer as the helmet is the one granting power once in place. For someone who locked a god like Dormamu in a loop... Dr Strange had the upper hand and they decided to kill Strange. The helmet is nothing without a host, Strange is powerful without the cape and Agamoto eye.

That's mostly DC. Marvel has only a handful of characters who can do that. Move faster than the speed of light I mean. In Marvel there's: Dr. Strange Silver Surfer Quicksilver Thor In DC there's: Flash x4+ (Barry Allen, Wally West, Bart Allen, Teri Magnus etc.) Wonder Woman Superman Darkseid High Father (presumably) Dr. Fate Supergirl Green Lantern x3000+ (for each gl in the universe) Captain Marvel x6 (for the Shazam family as a whole) Flash villains x5+ (Professor Zoom, Reverse Flash, presumably Godspeed, Savitar, Future Flash, etc.) And that's just off the top of my head and that I'm mostly pretty sure about. I had Jay Garrick on there but I removed him because I don't think he can actually reach light speed.

And honestly, as someone who was rooting for Strange when this episode first came out, I've come to admire Fate as a character. And yet DC's still alive and well because writers are smart enough to exploit those weaknesses anyhow. The whole dynamic between Batman and The Joker would be a lot less impressive if both of them had simple solutions to their problems, but it's because they're both difficult to deal with that we get classic stories time and time again. Even the problem with Superman and Wonder Woman being god level is solved with Darkseid and other heroes (very, very apparent in Injustice where if everyone had specific weaknesses The Regime would likely just steamroll everyone).

The real reason is the animators aren't really used to animating "indirect" or "unusual" battles like the kind you'd see if two super magicians ever fought, so they resorted to animating what they're used to; a more direct fight with occasional power usage. To be fair, a regular fight is already difficult to animate, a battle between two entities who fight by warping reality around them instead of going face to face or even shooting projectiles at each other is even much MUCH more difficult to animate, so a "true" magic battle where both participants fight by only using their ability to manipulate reality instead of just going face to face or shooting at each other with energy bolts or whatever is extremely rare in any form of media.
