Seemed like they had their shit together more when he was directing (Dishonored, Prey). Dishonored 2 is an improvement from a gameplay perspective (though I still think D1's level designs were better overall), but you can't deny the writing took a nosedive.

Things evolve exposing the flaws of even what might have previously appeared flawless. That's especially true for games, where most 'masterpieces' of the past are actually so flawed from their very foundation that they're difficult to even play and would be considered pretty badly designed, poorly polished and lacking if released today. That's true for all but the very simplest of older games, like Tetris.

The setting reminds me very much of Prey - Mooncrash. Repeating Timeloop, increasing arsenal of tools/powers you take with you in the next loop which you have to purchase with currency you earn during your retrys... was all already in Mooncrash.

@@wolfisince1978 They're both games where dying or starting over is fundamental to the experience, and you get incrementally stronger on each run. If you want a better version of Hades check out Vampire Survivors, it's basically Hades without all the tripe and with abilities that actually sync with each other. I swear all that writing and characterization, all that talk like "Oh you've been blessed by Zeus have you? I have just the thing to go with that!" Same minuscule upgrades you get every time. Game of the Year lmao.

I have found a great method to filter them out, it does mean you need to invest a bit of work sadly. First, has Mack covered it? Okay, then you got a base idea, then if it is on Steam, I go to the store page, scroll down to the reviews, filter by NEGATIVE reviews, then I throw away the short "Game sucks" and go for the reviews with more text. I read through what they highlight as bad points, the weaknesses of the game, and then I compare them to each other, if they all share the same weaknesses, then it a genuine complaint. If they all have different ones, it is most likely a smaller issue, and based on that, you can decide if it is going to affect you or not. At the end of this process I usually have a good clear idea if I throw it in the "not interested" list or the buy pile.

I definitely sympathize with your gripes with the characters. I think a lot of entertainment is leaning really hard into the quippy snaky sassy shit talker trope even when it doesn't really fit a character. The occasional joke is obviously fine but it gets tiring when every other line of dialogue is some kind of snapy zing. I actually like the MC fine for the most part but the girl annoys me a little too much idk feels a little forced.

Yeah thats definitely whats happening, same in movies, people just can't seem to write good characters anymore. Doom Eternal has good AI. There's a wide variety of monsters with their own tactics; ranged monsters will keep their distance and look for vantage points to attack you at a range, others will try and close the distance, others will shield tactically while others will hide. The Marauder AI is particularly impressive, with their dodges and aggression reacting to the players attacks and aim, they will even feint attacks. That's about all I can think of mind.

I remember Halo having probably the best enemy AI of any game I have played. The way they regroup, take cover, and get scared and run away if you kill the more powerful enemies was way ahead of its time. Games these days are kinda trash, the early 2000s was the golden age of gaming.

Im running it on a 3080ti, 11900k Maxed out and it looks no different then Dishonored 2 or Prey maxed out but with stuttering. I played through dishonored 2, 2 months ago and it looks better. I waited for this game to Mack and i feel the same. Thank you for the REVIEW.

I strongly disagree Mack, I honestly think Deathloop is a phenomenal game and Arkane's best to this date. My last favourite from them was Prey(2017). Deathloop makes you explore and try multipe ways of engaging in combat, something that other Arkane games also allowed extensively but never provided enough motivation to do so. Same with the fact that you cannot save and thus making it all the more risky and exciting, something which was sorta lost for me in their previous games bcz I couldn't resist saving before every dangerous/unknown event/area(obviously). This is where Deathloop shines imo, realizing the Arkane formula much more thoroughly. Plus the artstyle, the music and the setting are great as well. Yes, there are issues with the AI, but the simplicity of AI isn't a part of the issues with it, bcz I think it suits the funky throw-them-around gameplay design they are going for with this. And yes, there are currently mouse, movement, frame time and stutter issues on the PC that they need to fix ASAP. On the argument of why it got 10(the argument that its pandering), there is also the flip side to it. That bcz people are so tired of all the pandering and politics especially when that has time and time again led to bad quality products, people like yourself and many others are seeing it where it doesn't actually exist. I see it that way, bcz the game itself IS worthy of high praise(its not something outrageous that its getting such a high score as some are making it out to be) even though people are going to have differing opinions on it and the game is definitely not for everyone. This is also true for the sellout argument, which could be true coz we don't know what went on behind the scene, but like I said, it could be a genuine opinion as well, bcz I can see people giving this game such a high score. As for score on steam, it will likely rise to somewhere in the 90s once they fix the issues on the PC.

Every time i see a AAA FPS with nice graphics these days I'm impressed right up until the point that the player kills someone and the dead body and all the blood magically vanish because the engine can't handle it. No thanks. I don't care how nice your graphics are, if every change I make to your pretty little set-piece is going to vanish and remind me that i'm playing a fake video game in a fake world with fake consequences then why the fuck am i wasting my time? There is ZERO immersion available here.
