S&M was always kind of weak. It was cool I suppose, but even when it came out, I was experienced enough in more diverse metal from around the world to have already heard metal bands that are defined by orchestra, and some that even have orchestras as part of the band. So S&M To me was a interesting gimmick, but it It failed to deliver on its promise. It was Metallica playing in front of an orchestra. It just didn't really mesh like it could have.
