As appreciative as I am of what these young students have achieved, it is disappointing to realise that they were all “groomed” to be aggressive in tone in a formal setting. Stating/putting forth your facts and arguments in a manner that is unnecessarily aggressive in tone while being fast paced in speech without care for verbal coherence doesn’t make for a great debater. You have to be able to distinguish the fine line between “assertiveness” in tone and “aggressiveness” in tone. That way it doesn’t sound or mean like your arguments are overpowered by your emotional and personal feelings but rather by your facts backed by your hard work of research. This is not a negative critic as some might assume but rather just an observation put into words with the intention that they can learn, we can all learn from. PS. Notice my emphasis on groomed.
