There's a reason Mardrid let Casemiro go but kept Luka & toni around even though they were older than him. Both Kroos & Modric's games didn't rely on physical aspects majorly so their best qualities weren't effected by their age. Andrich for germany is kinda doing the role Case used to do for madrid years back. Toni or luka would be the deepest midfielder when they had the ball so they could dictate the attacks. Casemiro would be in a 2 beside whoever wasn't picking up the ball and be ready to pounce if they lost it. Just like Carlo used to do at AC. Pirlo would be the deepest midfielder, to start attacks from deep, yet he had Gattuso & Seedorf ahead of him. Gattuso was guaranteed to do the dirty work & Seedorf would do whatever was needed from him including having the quality to produce quality for the team with passes or drives from deep.That's why madrid's midfield didn't work with kroos and modric without casemiro at first, they lost their legs in midfield. Fede was playing out wide at that point and tchouameni was in & out of the team, same as camavinga. Now Carlo always has at least one of those 3 in the diamond so Kroos &/or modric can play their games without having to worry too much defensively. Valverde feels like having an extra player on the pitch with how much he runs. Camavinga knows where he needs to be no matter what position he plays and was the best player on the pitch in the CL final.
