How can they say that tariffs are not inflationary? I would like someone to explain to me how tariffs are not inflationary.

In 2018 during Trump 1.0, importers took a hit to their profit margins and didn't fully pass on the tariff markup to the wholesalers. The wholesalers did the same to the retailers, and so on, resulting in CPI not increasing. China subsidized its manufacturers and exporters to offset the effect of the tariffs

And ultimately the business go bankrupt and you can get your goods from somewhere far far away.
