Ian is a creative genius whose artistry is deeply influenced by his experiences with bipolar disorder and dissociative identity disorder (DID). The storyline of his music videos is intricately connected, creating a unique universe called "the other side", which is depicted in this MV. Several key characters appear in his music videos, including: Ian Technically it's Ian himself. The og or the "host" (kinda like the default persona). He is the who is depicted as being abducted in Mito movie. Mito Ian's alter, often depicted as the villain while his actual role is "the protector", Mito is characterized by a single eye and is often dressed in black, appearing in black and white scenes. He represents Ian's low and depressive episodes. Mr. Insanity Another alter, frequently seen in colorful and sparkly clothing with a clown-like demeanor, as in the video for "Seraph" & "So I Danced" and the one with bedazzled face in "Saint". Mr. insanity embodies Ian's manic high episodes. The Hybrid A character yet to be revealed, but said to be the most formidable, representing the worst qualities of Ian's other alters. Ian directs and edits all of his music videos. The inverted "DPR +Ian" supers mark indicates his dual role as both director and actor. He is currently getting recognized by broader audience, such a gem! His music videos has they're own cinematic universe, such a visual journey.

I won't reiterate facts about Ian that others have already posted, but I will say I love how much attention to detail you had. With DPR Ian it is so necessary to be finely tuned in because his music is so PERSONAL to him and has such a strong story and connection to his experience as someone with both a mood disorder and a personality disorder. His music is VULNERABLE in a way that leaves me in awe every time, this is essentially exactly how Ian experiences his world, it gives me chills just thinking about it. He's truly a once in a lifetime artist. I will second that it it would be nice if you watched the saywhatreacts interview with Ian. I think it's a very in depth and eye opening interview in how Ian views himself and his experience with bipolar disorder and DID and how that interacts with his artistry.

Thank you! I talk a lot but I’m not always so detailed. He calls for it, I think I’m learning Ian is an artist’s artist. I’ve watched a few different interviews with him and he’s so thoughtful and internally reflective.

There are a lot of different colours in this mv, mainly green and pink/purple. Those are actually associated with Mr insanity! When his eyes flash different colours throughout the video that can signify “switches”. The end part where he changes to blonde hair, that is Mr Insanity in all his chaotic glory.

Okay so my comment didn't appear since I was editing and got a returned error. So I'm going to try again. First thing to know is that Ian has both bipolar and dissociative identity disorder. Ian also lucid dreams. His alters are Mito and Mr. Insanity. You haven't met Mito but his presence is within the mv. Mr. Insanity is the one with the white hair. The one with the black hair is Ian but he is becoming more Insanity like. He might still have a sense of himself but who knows how long that would last. Second thing to know is the importance of colours and the key characters they're associated with. Mito: red/pink, black, white Insanity: purple/violet, green, yellow/gold The Hybrid: red/pink, blue, green (RGB) Question to ask: So are the pink people for Mito or the hybrid? Answer: The pink people are Mito's people. They are trying to stop Ian from fulfilling a mission that the hybrid gave him. However Mito isn't bad. Irl he is Ian's Protector/Guardian alter. Within the storyline he knows he has to stop Ian from doing what the hybrid wants him to do. However because in this video, Ian is in his manic high state and there is also (possible switching/foreshadowing of a switch because of his DID), he's going to think of Mito as dangerous. Of course as the audience we'll see the pitchforks and him being tied up and it's supposed to bring us to Ian/Insanity's perspective as well. Third thing to know is that Ian lucid dreams and the whole of the Dear Insanity section of the lore is set in a lucid dream in a place called The Other Side. I would highly recommend starting from the beginning of his discography to understand his lore in its entirety.

Well thank you for all this info. I really love his music and his voice. Definitely didn’t realize there was so much lore attached so might have to continue enjoying him on my own instead of reactions since there’s so much depth to his MVs. Thanks for the tip!
