@@Airlink_SG 2014 there wasn't much of a contender to Germany really. A great team is determined by how strong their opponents are. Going by sheer quality of opposition, Italy 1994 is as good as it gets as a powerhouse potential world cup winner. For that the 1994 Brazilian squad is right up there. The 2010 Netherlands squad is also well endowed with champions league winner Sneijder with the predator Van Persie and the mercurial Robben. That is a very powerful front trio. Germany's victory in 2014 faced a legendary Messi but without Di Maria who was instrumental. Higuain on the other hand isn't the world class striker we were hoping he would become, leaving Argentina quite a one man show. French team is a great team however they won only because R9 Fenomeno had a seizure and food poisoning just before the final

@@ConstantineJoseph No, you're exaggerating, they didn't win 3-0 only due to the state of R9, France had a lot of chances (too many in fact), the Brazilians defended very poorly, the marking on Roberto Carlos' corners in particular was catastrophic, Guivarch'h misses 5 head to head against Taffarel, R9 didn't seem to be in such bad shape, just Barthez was invincible, I watched the final several times. 😉

@@ConstantineJoseph Germany in 2014 was very strong, they arrived at the end of a hellish series of semi-finals or finals lost with Low, don't forget, it's a group that marked the history of football with the Klose, Podolski, Muller, Schweinsteiger, Lahm, Kroos, Boateng, Neuer etc.... Most of whose players played in the Champions League 1 year before with Jupp Heynckes' Bayern (Ribéry, Robben and co) In 2014 they scored 18 goals for 4 goals conceded, they did not lose a single match, they eliminated France in the quarter-finals, half of the holders (Griezmann, Giroud, Lloris, Matuidi, Varane etc...) would win the Cup in 4 years later, inflict humiliation on the host country in the semi-finals and beat Messi Prime's Argentina in the final, a team no less talented than Argentina 2022, when you allow yourself to put Aguero and Di Maria on the bench. Everyone has their own tastes but personally, the "deutsh qualitat" and the geggen pressing style of play over the last 15-20 years has impressed me. Bayern 2013 (4-0 against Juve in the quarters, 7-0 against the big Barça in semi), Bayern 2020 with 11 matches 11 victories (43 goals scored) Germany 2014 (5 consecutive semi-finals from 2006 to 2014), Klopp's Liverpool from 2017 to 2022.

I wonder if there are that many experts in the coms. It's amazing not to mention France 98-2002, half of which will be present in the 2006 final (Barthez, Thuram, Vieira, Zidane, Henry, Trézéguet) To begin with, France 98 is 15 goals scored for 2 goals only conceded with a 3-0 in the final against Brazil ! Then, France won Euro 2000 with a magnificent game, dominating Spain, Portugal and making a deserved comeback against Italy in the final. It remained the best nation in the world until 2002, putting 3.4 or 5-0 on everyone, even winning 3-0 in Germany with a masterclass from the Zidane-Henry-Trezeguet trio. 15 days before the 2002 World Cup, disaster, Zidane and Pirès have a major injury ! The team was eliminated in the first round but came back strong 4 years later by performing masterclasses against Spain and Brazil, to reach the final. I get your argument though, that perhaps Spain's WC performance in 2010 wasn't even their strongest tournament during that run. She won the World Cup after losing to Switzerland in the group stage and winning 4 times "1-0" from the R16 to the final with a rather defensive game. At this point why not mention France which dominated the world from 98 to 2002 just before the World Cup with the injuries a few weeks before to Pirès and Zidane, 2 major players. We must remember the performances of this generation, 15 goals vs 2 in 98, masterclass in Euro 2000 against Spain, Portugal and historic comeback in final against Italy ; won Confederations Cup, which rolled over everyone, who gave masterclasses wherever they played like a 3-0 in Germany with a trio of fire Zidane-Henry-Trezeguet, who were at that period, best player or top scorer in their championship. A large part of this group will find themselves in the final again in 2006 (Barthez, Thuram, Vieira, Zidane, Henry, Trezeguet...)

Spain 2010! Who broke international record of winning the Euros-WC-Euros. That Xavi/Iniesta combo would pass all other teams to exhaustion, as they did for BARCA and it's of no coincidence that when their legs went, so too did Spain's & BARCA dominance. Frank cites that Brazil team beat Italy in the final 4-1, but Spain tore Italy apart in the Euro final 4-0, no one beats the Italians 4-0. And the no look pass to the overlapping player for Brazil, Spain did this to Alba to rifle in a similar goal. With Casillas, CB's of the warriors of Puyol, Ramas, football brains of Fabregas, Carzolla. I'd put that 70's Brazil 2nd but a wild card would ahve to be Maradona's Argentina, who was the most single powerful force of nature ever seen in a team. He went to Napoli and transformed them into Champions too.

The Italian team that lost the 1970 World Cup is the best squad they have ever had, while the Italian team Spain beat in the Euros is one of the worst they've ever had. @@SamsungAndIphoneUser Yes. Besides every side needs a bit of luck to win WC. Final was quite even match as a whole. Many winners need at least one knockout game to go to penalties or win with the tight margins. 2014 Germany's mindset was to win these games when they're not on their best. During 2006-2012 they couldn't do that when game didn't went their way. You need luck and ability to win games when you're not maybe the better one on stats.
