I was one of the high school kids from the Highland Park High School Camerata in Saint Paul who sang on her album Sing Unto God in 1972. She was a real blessing. As a young Catholic boy she brought me into a Jewish Temple and we sang her songs of worship. It was the first time I wore a Kippah. I learned that as a Catholic we had many commonalities with my Jewish classmates. God bless her.

I was privileged to sing on stage with my son and Debbie Freidman in Allentown, PA. She changed my view of Judaism. Now in my twilight years, growing ever more devout to God, I attribute to her, a large impact on my dedication to my faith.

one of the biggest blessings of my life was the privilege of singing with debbie at olin-sang ruby union institute in oconomowoc and on the bima of temple sholom in chicago when we were both teens and she was still developing sing unto god with just her guitar and and a cassette deck. if their is any one person we can credit with the emergence of reconstructionist reform judaism, it would be debbie friedman. we were kids at a time when the reform rabbis were hard to distinguish from christian pastors to us kids because we had become so assimilated, we weren't practicing the faith. the work of debbie friedman galvanized a lot of us to return to the practice of our faith. she composed more jewish music than any other person in history than king david.

I think she was from what I've heard, but that shouldn't matter. Didn't keep her from making great music. Joan Baez is gay as well and it doesn't stop her from making great music either.
