Thank you for doing another one of these Debbie!!! Glad my comment made your day. ☺️💕 I'm so sorry for your miscarriages, I can't even imagine the toll that that has had on you both physically and mentally. 💔 But glad you got some good out of it in regards to your IBS. I think anyone that's had a pet sees them as children, so whether that's a small hamster or a dog I don't see the difference, to be honest, nor do I find it odd. I've always wanted a cat, but like you guys don't currently live in the ideal environment for one. Ugh, going to a doctor for pain management only to have them focus on your anxiety must have been so frustrating. I'm lucky in Belgium (even though our public toilet system sucks) we do have great health care. We get to choose/find our specialist doctors (we don't have to go through our GP to get a recommendation/appointment), so if you don't get along with a therapist for example you can find/pick a different one. Although it isn't free, like with the NHS, it's essentially the equivalent of "going private" for you guys in the UK just not at those extortionate prices. Thank you so much for that grimacing tip, had no idea that was a thing (TV can be so handy sometimes! ☺️), although I did have to look up how to grimace because I was that clueless! 😅 When I go into a situation that I know is going to give me anxiety (like a car journey), I always picture my perfect place and also listen to classical music (the latter really helps keep me calm and have my mind focus on other things; my version of meditating really 😉). I found The Cognitive Behavioral Workbook for Anxiety by William J. Knaus very helpful and full of great tips. It helps get you to a place where you don't fear your panic attacks because you've worked on each symptom individually e.g. erratic breathing, dizziness, getting too hot etc. and like you said "reprogramming your brain" on how it responds to those symptoms. Like forcing yourself to hyperventilate for a minute in a safe place, you realise it's quite hard to keep up, spinning around on a chair to make yourself dizzy, bundling up with many layers to make yourself get "uncomfortably hot", you repeat these until it no longer triggers that fear response. But that being said, I don't have any pain management needs (I'm very lucky in that regard that my anti-anxiety meds help not only deal with my IBS but also its pain factor). However, I remember very well (before I found that medication) just how much pain can take over. And you're right, dealing with both pain and anxiety are two very different beasts and what might work for one doesn't work for the other and you easily end up not doing great on either. 😔 That being said, another great video Debbie! You've helped me, and I'm sure you'll help many others out there feel less alone (even if it's just being able to relate to one aspect) 💕
