I am a Christian. This sung is about redemption of a wondering and lost soul. The joy you experience when you here His voice calling you out of a world of sin into His loving arms. The joy bells that ring in your heart, and the songs that you sing from you heart to Him when you experience salvation. Like a mystery of love between Ruth and Boaz. When He seals you with Holy Spirit of promise, never to roam again. You are never alone again, "I will be with you even in you, I will never leave you or forsake you." To quote the scripture is one thing, when He comes and proves it to you that is another. This is my story this is my song, praising my savior all the day long. He has light up my life. He has given me more than hope, He has given me life eternal. And I await my crown of rightousness, even a glorified body like He has. That where He is so I will be also. We will drop this robe of mortal flesh and put on white robes. I was a prodigal son, but He plucked me like a brand out of the fire. The greatest thing in life is to experience redemption. The Lord Jesus Christ is all together lovely.

Glad you like it. The song was written by a Jewish man, not that religion matters.

I know I didn’t represent the meaning intended, but I would sing this to my baby girl almost every night I put her to bed (she had a music box that had the instrumental part) for close to 3 years. The last time was probably close to 20 years ago. Hearing this now makes me cry.

The 70's was the decade of mega hit songs and movies. The Bee Gees ruled the 70's along with Andy Gibb with mega hit after mega hit. I think this song was among the top 5 or so songs of the 70's. If this was released today as a brand new song it wouldn't even chart cuz it sounds nothing like today's so-called music.

For 40+ years, I had this memory of Debbie Boone singing this song on Solid Gold when I was a kid. Her face, the song, that moment stuck with me all these years. It just occurred to me today to look for the video and KZbin delivered! Thanks! Love the 80s!

This is to Debbie Boone: You lit up our lives when God picked you to sing this song. Well, picked by nessessity, because Debbie Boone is the only person on Earth who could sing it this way. The way God wanted it sung. I don't mean to be combative, but with one song and you jumped your Dad for greatness.

Here's my Debby Boone influence story. I was ten years old in 1977, a 5th grader when "You Light Up My Life" came out. It was so popular, that this girl brought the record to our Music Appreciation class. I recalled that for some reason even though I had no interesting the girl at all, though she did give me this unsettling feeling. We even had to sing this song at a school assembly as a class. Fast forward to a year later....that girl who brought the Debby Boone album used to look at me a lot and now I'm slowly falling for her as a 6th grader until I wake up one morning, totally sick to my stomach, singing "You Light Up My Life," as I had fallen totally in love with her!!! Because I had so many negative issues, including low self esteem, I blew my chances with her and nothing ever happened, but not being able to be involved with her really hurt me since she was the first girl I fell for, and my life has been where I've really not been in love much. Frankly, I really had no really good things to say about "You Light Up My Life." I thought it was a cheesy joke of a song and I used to get really angry whenever I heard it. Well, Debby Boone came on a Sirius radio show this year and had some great selections for music. After that, I was at a free, take it section of a used record and book store, and Debby's 1977 album was there, so I listened to the song and have come to respect the song way more and even like it, and embrace it for its historical role in my young life. Then after finding the album, I was at a garage sale and came on her 1981 autobiography, and I bought it and read it....She really has an incredible story. I don't know why Debby Boone has become en vogue for me after all these years, but "You Light Up My Life" has really been coming into my sphere over 40 years after experiencing my first love. Ironically, the first girl I fell for so hard, well, her name means "shining light." I never got married, considered it just one time but it didn't work out, and am still single as of this writing.

I have more and more hope cause I see progress and his intuition and just a smooth talker gets me so energized each and every time and keeping me at an arms length is ok 👌 with me as it only gets stronger and stronger my intuition and optimism and Jesus knows I love him and guides me every step of the way to my love and happiness and I see this was meant to be! There are just too many signs snd tears that make me feel like I want to just run to him and hold him in my arms forever and no matter how I think it is over well how come as soon as I approach the street where he lives I get all nervous weak and my briefcase weighs 101 million tons and when I am up reall good things happening I always want to tell him first! Never saw the movie that inspired that song - but I can tell you that I am writing my autobiography, and I heard that very lovely waltz-ballad song at 6 years old on a transistor radio we had in our house on WGN 720 when it did the musical series "Music Unlimited", and also when I was driven around and I heard that same song on the car stereo when my parents listened to WCLR 102 FM (actually, 101.9 FM, before digital LED displays on dashboards and electronics gave the exact dial reading). It made me feel much better! The high B (nearly an octave above middle C) she sang near the end really made my day, and the additional words, "You gave me hope to carry on", was Debby's subconscious meaning that when my own life is filled with thorns and pain, try everything you can to get through and feel better again. That song was the best song in my 1977 year, so I am going to put it in my book! Thanks Debby Boone!!!!
