It's interesting how x-factor portrayed these "bad audition contestants" as horrible people but when you hear the contestants side of the story you realize that they are actually lovely and caring people. Reality shows like X Factor are just infomercials for famous people, and conflict equals ratings. If you go back and watch Debi’s audition, she sang it beautifully without any pitch issues, yet wannabe Simon Cowell (Louis) said she can’t sing? It’s too bad the producers wanted a different narrative with her. Debi is a lifer when it comes to art and singing. She radiates charisma and her voice gives goosebumps. What a beautiful soul Debi has and thank you for doing this interview with her. ❤️ It makes me so sad that she was emotionally manipulated just for the sake of “entertaining TV”. I thought her singing was beautiful and when I first saw the audition, the judges’s responses seemed really out of place… I remember thinking “Why is Louis trying to hold back a smile right now while he is saying these mean things?”. As someone who is also pregnant right now, I can totally relate to the flood of hormones and emotions that you experience during such a sensitive time. It’s appalling the comments that they said about your mother and how they edited your responses to cut out your true responses. Thank you for being brave to share your true story ❤️ You’re a beautiful person inside and out and I hope you still sing to share your voice with others 💗

Truly shocking how these TV companies can just alter anything to fit their needs. They have no regard for the person, no empathy for them and what effect it could have on them. All they see is an innocent person that can make them a buck through exploitation. Debi seems lovely and the remarks about her mum are so wholesome and it would’ve completely grounded the audition. At the end of the day these shows aren’t for the people auditioning, not for the people viewing, but for the producers. And they’ll do what they can to make the most money out of it. Even if it means exploiting a lovely woman by twisting her words and setting her up. I wish all the best for Debi in future ❤

@@LadyCandic 💯 what I concluded from the podcast, is that the producer's made it appear like her reaction was due to not being able to go through. ALL the other things they said to her unrelated to that was edited OUT hmmm . It certainly would have made Louie look bad to have him filmed insulting a contestants mother ! Right? I think she was a target due to her involvement with the water ! That request put her on the producer's radar and the Judges were probably instructed to aggravate her to generate a strong reaction which she did! I mean Louie telling her as a first comment "you will never ever be pop star" that is really really strong and not necessary!

Even though Debbi regrets her audition now, I have always enjoyed viewing the (selectively edited) ‘angry’ auditions from these shows - not to laugh at the person auditioning, but because they had the guts to throw some of it back at the judges on these fake shows. I admire them for that, even if it ultimately backfires on them. We need more people to tell the judges/producers on these shows where to go! Hey Debi...despite what the trolls have told you in the past, I just wanted to let you know I thought your singing voice was good. Problem is you have to be spectacular to make it to the big time...which would be asking so much more than most of us can truly offer. I can say that you sing better than a large percentage of people in this world who attempt to do it, and that you've got absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Don't be afraid to put your voice out there again even if it's just doing karaoke somewhere...as long as it makes you feel good when you sing for people. Trolls have no lives and only exist to come up with things to say that hurt other people so you can't take their cruelty to heart, and you can't live the rest of your life dwelling on the negative spotlight that was put on you by that show. The people out there will believe that you're not who you were portrayed to be if you get out there and show them the truth. Just remember something Debi...no matter how they made you look...you're always going to be a celebrity for the rest of your life now..and you're famous. People want to see and interact with a star, and now that you've went on national tv and sang...most people will honestly be putting you on a pedestal if you showed up somewhere to do a song (so be sure you knock 'em dead if you do). You got a great smile and personality and you deserve to be happy, so don't forget that happiness only starts once you've taken the first step toward it. Open yourself up to the world and embrace it because you're only young once, and the things in life that scare you and you have doubt about hardly ever go the way you think they will. I hope you see this and it helps your outlook some because you need to know that there are people out here...even strangers like me...that care about you and want nothing but to see you happy. Good luck Debi!

It's so good to see that Debi's doing well now, and married to the same man she was with then. She doesn't seem a victim. I liked her voice from the start. There are parallels with the experiences of other contestants who have (or had) talent, but fell out with the panel. Zoe Alexander and the late Ariel Burdett spring to mind, but there are others. It seems the producers insist contestants big themselves up, making them sacrificial lambs for the judges to "put in their place". Things have changed. Simon Cowell wouldn't tell a contestant he looked like a bushbaby now, because mental health trouble is something that can afflict anyone and everyone, and awareness has grown - quite possibly in part due to these talent shows. This is a great interview, and I'm off to Part 2 now. Thanks for doing this - I'd felt sad for Debi since the show went on to KZbin. To think she was pregnant at the time! Glad she had the baby to keep her busy. Love beats any TV show.

Debbie is just one among the numerous victims of this scripted 'talent show.' I'm grateful that her, Zoe Alexander and several other contestants labeled as 'bad' or 'aggressive,' have spoken out about it. They've bravely revealed how producers were sabotaging them backstage, manipulating situations or heavily edited their words. It's truly disheartening to see this kind of manipulation gain viral attention, resulting in these women facing mockery and undeserved repercussions. They certainly didn't deserve such treatment - their auditions were good.

I always noticed a trend with this type of audition/contestant. They took particular joy in humiliating good singers that would have been great live with a band, and acted like they were talentless idiots with no place in music because they weren't totally trained Xtina types. They did it to Debi, Holly Jervis, even that weirdo Rachel that sang "Sugar Walls." Just because they're not a fit for X Factor doesn't mean they're nothing. You definitely dodged a bullet Deb, the show (and franchise) existed to make money for Simon who had gone in to bankruptcy in the early 90s. The idea was to make some cash off the debut albums of the winners then dump them and repeat the process again. The rejected contestants were spared alot of exploitation frankly cos these talent shows are never about helping new talent, theyre about maximum profit for minimum effort which is what scooping people off the street is all about.

The X Factor was really cruel. They toyed with peoples emotions to get a reaction, and then edited it to make the person look bad. Cruel and bullying behaviour

Oh wow. I won’t lie I honestly Debi was a right cow and couldn’t take criticism but after this I’ve changed my mind, I can’t believe Louis said that about her mother, very unprofessional on his part

Such a lovely woman. Im glad these reality talent shows have all but dried up. Terrible idea in the first place.
