Wow Deborah voight used to have an amazing voice.

Yes she did. I saw her in four operas before the operation and she was one of the most stunning voices and performers I have experienced in over 50 years of opera going. Even after the operation, I saw her first new role [Strauss" Salome] and she was still marvelous though the voice had a little less gold and a little more steel. I believe that if she had taken just a few more months post-operation to rework her technique she would not have deteriorated as she did.

@@wilsonwatt9283 When did you catch her Salome? I saw her do it in Washington DC in 2012, and unfortunately the voice had zero cushion left. I would have loved to have heard what she sounded like live earlier on though.

Stupid commentator doing the intro. There is nothing "meltingly beautiful" about this confrontational duet. Furious and emotionally inflammatory perhaps but hardly "melting".
