I have an adult ebjd, had him since fry. He is going on his second time being a father, really great dad. These offsprings will be carrying the blue gene, and I plan on breeding the offspring also. He was sick once as a fry himself, noticed just a difference in his eating behaviour and treated him with medicine. but now he is 2 yrs old, big and beautiful. I live in sweden by the way.

Tjenare!

This is not always the case. I don't have a ton of experience with electric blues, but I have one now that has never been sick and is far from Sickly. He's a tank bully in a tank with firemouth's, Acaras, and an Oscar.

I've had my electric blue for 3 years now in a 40 gallon tank by himself. I have never had to treat him with medication the water has been hard his entire life. I keep a piece of drift wood in to help a little. He is currently 7 inches and seems to be doing fine. He stays in his hide 80% of the time and I feed him cichlid pellets and once a month do a live feeding. The touchiest part is keeping nitrates down if they get above 50ppm he gets slightly stressed. Keep an eye on his color when he is stressed he gets slightly more pale. Other than that he is my best friend.

Just got a little JD for my 40b today. He'll be kept alone too. Is there a specific reason you don't do weekly water changes? I used to keep African cichlids with 50% weekly water changes and noticed they grew much faster when doing so.

I bought 3 & grew them up to 6inches or bigger without any issues. & when I bought them they were a inch & half at the time. They never got sick I had them in in a 55gal. tank for 21/2 years & I wanted to breed them but no luck. So I thought I had all males so then I traded the biggest one for a proven female hybrid & still no luck with breeding them. & after about a year of waiting for them to breed I gave up on my cichlid tank and sold it. But after I sold it I found eggs in one of the Hides I had so now I got a airstone in the glass hide they were in & hoping that the eggs hatch 🤞🏻🙏🏻. & the pair was the EBJD's. So I'm pissed at my self for selling them now🤬! So the moral of the story is never give up , keep the faith! Plus I sold the whole complete set up for $200. Damn it, man! I would show a picture of my eggs I guess you can't show pictures in the comments.

I just got one from a pet store about the size of a penny. They had it in with 2" to 3" oscars and assorted cichlids, and they had it cornered literally trying to kill it. After I told the clerk, he got him into a breeder box. The clerk started scratching his head wondering where he was going to keep him, I told him to bag him up I'll take him. Hopefully it goes well...

The first time I brought Electric Blues all six got sick and died I bought 6 more and two survived and ended up living 9 and 10 years. I think they died from age at that point. This time around I started with 10 blujacks and now have three that lived and now are a year-and-a-half. I think it comes down to Only the Strong Survive. They seem to be very sensitive 2 parasites and disease until they hit adulthood. All the best. JOE.

Recessive genes don't necessarily make an animal weak. It usually involves a change in color which makes them suseptible to being picked on or hunted by a predator. That is why white deer have shorter life spans. You will have to come up with something more than recessive genes as a excuse for eh they don't live longer. I would say , more like a defective Gene. Anyway just my thoughts on the subject. Love your vids. Keep em going

Add in excessive line breeding and it does. Perfect examples are a lot of lines of Bristlenose: albino, lemon, super reds, snow whites, then even more so if long fin varieties of those. Slower growths, weak fry ect.

Never had a problem I’ve raised about 30+(lost count) a couple died here and there but the main thing I do is dive into highly digestible foods (Northfin) (bug bites) then I up the protein when they show some positive growth alternating back and forth and a amazing filter system. Also had a ton more luck with sensitive fish off well water.

There becoming alot easier to manage and take care of. The more EBJD there are with more blood lines. The better. The problem was to much inbreeding. Any living animal that inbreed will have defects. Thats just the way it goes. But now that there are more Electric blue jacks with more bleed lines. There getting better.

Genetically EBs are just not a sound gene pool. They have several traits from taxonomy too just being less cunning in times of eating or fin regeneration. It almost seems at first the rarity of the mutation made for small genepools which makes for lots of inbreeding.

Let me know how to send the pic man, I got you, ebjd my favorite cichlid and I cant have you ragging them. Already dmed a pic on insta. And I can still give selection and raising tips. Just finished video, left first half before finishing tbh, while you may be passionate about ragging on ebjd, im passionate about them and will advocate their value. Yes you should do one internal parasite purge treatment upon getting them. After that you should be able to raise them to adulthood with proper care. These fish aren't what dont belong in the industry, inadequate care is what doesn't belong in the industry

Didnt wanna edit again. Every ebjd that has dief on a person was alive before going into their care. Someone was raising them from eggs to whenever you got them and getting them alive and in good condition, and doing so when they are at their weakest stage. Ebjd get exponentially hardier with age and by 4 inches are about as hardy as any cichlid. Just something to think about

Naw, most people are just naive fishkeepers. to raise, keep and breed EBJDs you need discus level skills or better. it requires the kind of patience the average keeper doesnt have, this doesnt help because as fishkeepers we are typically impatient lot, myself included sometimes. i managed to score a male and female EBJD. im not pairing them. i have a regular female JD to mate with the male. from that spawn i will collect all the Blue Gene males, and mate those small adolescent males to a large mature female EBJD to prevent death during mating every monthly spawn, then toss the male back in a male colony to keep them dwarved, stunted, to ensure they are physically weaker than the female. ill get a Blue Gene Female from this spawn but that will take time to line breed back to the male EBJD. Hopefully this plan works. lol im always prepared to eat my own words.

I've had my Electric Blue JD for over a year now. It's a true electric blue, not a regular JD. It's in a 40g breeder by itself and has never been sick. I feed it aqueon cichlid pellets which is a cheap food. I am not a fish store owner and have never needed to use medication on it. It's disappointing that you would have this take on such an amazing fish without even trying to keep it in a tank by itself. It's hard to believe that you're actually surprised about your EBJDs dying when you kept it in a community tank with MUCH large fish than it. You did your research, found out that it's a sensitive fish, and the thought of keeping it by itself or with smaller fish never crossed your mind? I normally like your videos, but your videos on the EBJD makes it seem like you are just trying to drive traffic to your channel by having a controversial opinion.

I don't think you understand how recessive color-genes work. It's the same same for humans in eye-color. If a blue-eyed and brown-eyed human gets a baby, it will always be brown-eyed since the brown-eyed gene is dominant to the blue-eyed gene. It does not create a new color of eyes or "hybrid eyes", the baby will simply be brown-eyed. Skin color works different (is not dominant/recessive) and that means if a black and white human get a baby it will likely get a hybrid color. People who sent you pictures of their adult EBJDs, actually have adult EBJDs - regardless if YOU happend to fail with the fish or not. It is however a very sensitive gene due to inbreeding and requires a lot of special treatment from the aquarium owner, especially in their early days. You just seem to act like a baby in this video where you're saying that if YOU can't bring them up to adulthood then others who succeeded must have fake EBJDs. Drop the ego dude, stay humble.
@jerml6136
@jerml6136 3 жыл бұрын
Respectfully, you don’t understand how recessive genes work. If your statement is correct, no one would have blue eyes ;) it’s more complicated than that. Both parents can carry recessive genes without expressing them and have a baby/offspring that express those recessive genes by inheriting a recessive copy from each parent resulting in not carrying the dominant gene at all 🧬 exactly how 2 normal looking Jack Dempseys (EBGD) can produce electric blue Jack Dempseys.
