Regenerative farming is net positive, it actually helps the environment. You're 100% correct saying a lot of losers take advantage of label loop holes and the meat you get is crap. This is why is so important to support farms directly, locally. Where you can even visit them. I will say grain fed does seem to taste better, personal preference. In terms of health, it's ZERO argument, grain fed is junk. It's typically GMO grains and yes, high omega 6, is omega 6 needed in the diet? For sure...the average American has 20:1 ratio though, instead of the ideal 1:1 or even up to 3:1. If you're mainly meat based, you'll probably be okay, but still, you're better off with true pasture raised cows locally raised. Lastly, this is clearly a paid video by butchers, which is totally fine, gotta pay the bills.

Damn Mr. Ninja teaching history now. Anyways I'm pretty sure I read a while back that so far the scientific consensus is that we're getting too much omega 6 fatty acids and not enough omega 3s. They said a high contrast between the two may not be a good thing for our bodies. We currently intake far more omega 6 than omega 3s.
@SaltyTales4 жыл бұрын
I agree, Thanks you so much! 😀😀
@default28264 жыл бұрын
Yes, and omega-3's can actually be converted into omega-6 or omega-9 as needed. And omega-3 is the only fat that can be converted in the body to all other omega's so ideally you'd only want to consume omega-3 as much as possible and let your body figure out how much it wants to turn into omega-6 and omega-9.
@maddihuskergirl3 жыл бұрын
Omega 3s are so low in grain fed beef, that even though grass fed beef has more, it isn't significant enough to really effect our health:)
@Xardaras4 жыл бұрын
I'm a biologist and you're absolutely correct about the Omeaga 6 and 3 fat acids being essential for the function of the cell membranes. the reason doctors tell you to cut Omega 6 as far as possible is, that it's way easier to get through our meals than Omega 3 fats. It's nearly impossible to cut it completely, but it's good to try and be aware. In a perfect world you consume the same amount of O6 and 3. Regarding the methan emission: the solution is to eat less meat, 1-2 times the week. I'm a hobby cook and meat enthusiast myself, so that really hurts, but that's the only long term solution. Very nice video! I like how you present multiple views and settle with a personal opinion of yourself. Very scientific and it displays integrity to objectively present more than your personal opinion.

imagine thinking methane emisons from cows is a problem, rofl at your weird religious beliefs. also you cannot spell haha.
@StangspringDK4 жыл бұрын
According to the cattle inventory, there are fewer cows now, than 40 years ago. None of the major cattle extinctions (rinderpest or bison slaughter) show up on the methane atmospheric concentration charts. The oil crisis does show up as a flattening on the graph, roughly 15 years after (time it takes for methane to convert into CO2). Fracking, drilling, rice and thawing permafrost are those emissions that keep on going up and up. Not cow farts. Cows simply cannot in itself, be responsible for increased carbon in the atmosphere. Every single carbon atom that is emitted or converted into tissue by the cow, was absorbed from the atmosphere. A cycle that is in absolute balance. On the other hand, transporting your steak half around the globe is a bad thing, even though genuine japanese Kobe is deliiiiiiiicious. Yes, clearing forests to make room for cows or grow cow food, is bad. Also, bad practice when farming (regardles of that being raising cows or grow food for humans), can be detrimental for the environment. Big spoiler. Life is carbon based. It works due to a continous cycle of carbon in it’s various forms. It’s moving carbon from earths longtime storage (actually left there by living organisms million of years ago), that puts more carbon into the atmosphere. Period!

To really measure the amount of land required to produce beef on grain or on grass, requires consideration for housing space, the land the grain was grown on, and the land the grass was grown on. Acre per acre, we can produce much more grass using high density grazing techniques, as opposed to one or two crops of grain per year. Including soil building with grass versus soil erosion with cultivation. Soil building = carbon capturing, soil erosion = carbon polluting. Not to mention fossil fuel consumption required to cultivate and transport grain.
@SaltyTales4 жыл бұрын
That is a great point... Any number comes to mind? 😀

@@SaltyTales Well, I had to do some researching of my own, but I couldn't find much conclusive information. I'm mainly an interested observer of beef production. Sorry for being short on facts.

Great comment. Not often considered.
@emilybrereton7022 жыл бұрын
Just curious if another number to consider is the amount of time to get to butchering weight. I think grains help because they are more calorie dense so just another factor in how much can be produced from a set amount of land. Grass fed may require less land when the corn field is taken into consideration like you mentioned but will grass finished land produce less in the end. I wonder if you compare how much land is required for a set amount of finished beef for comparison.
@emilybrereton7022 жыл бұрын
Another factor is with purely grass fed beef, during the winter months when grass does not grow on pasture they must be fed large amounts of hay to be considered grass finished. This hay must be grown in another field during the summer similar to how the grain is grown outside of their pasture so that land must be taken account in the measurement if we are going to do an equal comparison. I’m not trying to argue either way. Just like science/ numbers /research

This video is missing the main point. I would agree that grain fed is cheaper and more tender. However, the "health theory" is that plants produce proteins to discourage animals from eating them. These are referred to as lectins. Our bodies have developed a means to digest some plants, but not others. Grains, including corn, are the seeds of the plants and they're particularly heavily laden with lectins to discourage them from being eaten. When the lectins get into us, our immune system sees them as foreign bodies and attack them, causing swelling and a general weakening of our immune system, which produces arthritis and reduces our ability to fight real infections. Most grains are relatively new to our diet (evolutionally speaking), so we have not developed the bacteria in our gut to digest them. (You can destroy some lectins through fermentation and high pressure/heat.) When animals are fed a huge diet of grains to fatten them up, the lectin proteins end up in their meat, which then end up in our body. (The high corn diet is so disagreeable to the cows, they have to include a form of "Tums" with the grain to keep the cows feeling ok.) While you won't die the next day from eating lectins, they do weaken your body and you're simply better off w/o them in you. Grass has much less lectin than seeds and animals have gut bacteria to digest them. So for health reasons, we're better off eating grass fed than corn fed. If you're trying to be healthy, you're better off not eating most seeds or animals that eat seeds. (Some plants encourage their seeds to be eaten so they're pooped out far away, so they won't have lectins in them when they're ripe, but corn isn't one of these.) Grass fed is about living until you're 90 vs living until you're 70. Not what meat is tastier and cheaper, or which produces less methane for the planet.
@beniregesАй бұрын
cows should not be eating grains but grains are natural to humans if they grow in your local area. must be organic and sprouted and fermented.

The truth is in the taste… If the beef that’s grass fed wasn’t mainly grass fed then it wouldn’t taste different than the grain fed beef… I bought a ribeye at a local butcher. The meat wasn’t labeled so I asked and they told me that the cows were grass fed grain finished. I looked up all of the signs of a grass fed meat & it had no signs of being grass fed so I cooked it and it totally taste like grain fed. I went to Walmart & their grass fed beef has all of the signs of a grass fed cow plus when I cooked it I could taste that the cow was eating grass and not grain, big difference in flavor!

@default28264 жыл бұрын
2:30 is not a good argument, yes the body needs omega 6 but your body can make it itself from turning omega-3 to omega-6 and your body can also turn omega 3 to omega 9's. Omega 3's are the only fat that your body can turn into any other omega fat when it needs to. so omega 3 is the only one you need to consume. If you consume omega 6 that increases inflammation responses in the body and it will be stuck as either omega 6 or 9. That is why you should reduce omega6 as much as possible because you don't need to consume it. Omega-9 you don't have to worry about reducing since it's already pretty rare in food.

In the U.K. all our beef is grass fed, and that's a lovely deep beefy flavour. However, it simply isn't any good for low n slow BBQ as there is not enough intramuscular fat, the meat dries out. For steaks I like grass fed, for smoking it has to be grain fed imported brisket etc, or at a pinch ex dairy. Great video!

Specious argument regarding Omega 6. No one sensible doubts we need it. The problem with Omega 3 and 6 is not consumption, it's the ratio between them. Omega 3 supports the reduction of inflammation, Omega 6 promotes the increase of inflammation. Both processes are needed. Historically the human diet consisted of an approximately equal amount of each. But since we have begun using seed oils, we are consuming the inflammation inducing Omega 6 at an hugely increased rate vs Omega 3. Thus we are causing body inflammation without the benefit of the same reduction in inflammation provided by Omega 3. The best way to balance this is to look up the chart on oils and what ratio they contain and use the oils (and choose the foods) that have the highest Omega 3 and lowest Omega 6 content.

Great job. Thanks for sharing. Here is my 2c if you are "in to" eating meat... Grass *finished*... meaning they finished maturing on grass and have eaten grass their entire life (as you said). Look up an article from "Crowd Cow" - "grass finished versus grain finished". It's worth the 3 minutes or so it takes to read. Though grass *finished* is more I think what people are looking for (health benefits, etc.) not all "grain fed", "grass fed", etc. is created equal. It comes down to the rancher (or as most call - the farmer) and how the cattle is being raised, cared for, fed, etc. My advice to people is find a person who raises his/her own beef - and buy from him/her. If you can't do that - then you can default to grass "finished" - if you can get that option. I advise to stay away from foreign/imported beef if you can... it's good in many cases... I have eaten a whole lot if it when I had no other option... it's just there is no way anyone can ensure the claims that are being made on the package. If you can though... know the rancher where your meat is coming from. Buy a chest freezer and purchase a 1/4 or 1/2 a beef at a time... you'll save a ton of money, have meat on hand all year, and if you can... know where it came from. I understand not everyone can do this... but at least look for grass *finished* if you can find it - from the country you are living in. Yeah - that was probably way more than anyone wanted... but at least it's on topic LOL :-) Best to you and yours... pats for the pup. :o)

I just finished eatting one I did in the oven. Baked it at 275 until it hit 130º. let it rest for about 10 minutes then seared it on high heat for about 1.5- 2 minutes per side. Came out perfect.

I have been buying grass fed beef. It is horrible, no flavor like a cardboard, no beef aroma, so what's going on? Even said in the package, grass fed finish.

The humane issue should be the biggest consideration. Afterall, healthy animals= healthy humans.

For some reason when you make a commentary the mic used give you a robotic voice :/ if you use filters turn them off and try without them. Background noise are annoying but if we can't understand you thats even a bigger problem.

Love you show! Mrs Ninja can be a star! Maybe a cooking show other than steak for her.

Grain fed is acidic and grass fed is neutral for ph levels

I personally have never noticed too much a difference. I suppose it really comes down to if you want to spend more on grass fed and how that makes you feel from an environmental stand point. I have no problem spending a few extra bucks but that can get really pricey with higher quality cuts. So for me like Ninja #B is my go to. But, like you said you cannot really go wrong.

I fill the grass fed meat flavor is different and trust me, I feel that grass flavor in it. But again, that is a matter of taste and nothing wrong with one option over another. Team #B baby! 😀😀

The best I've had was grassfed (coming from a local farm where the cow roamed freely and ate whatever goodies was on the ground) the meat was out of this world DEEEEEEELICIOUS

The biggest issue is “glyphosate” grain fed can cause cancer

Round Up chemicals in meat is a big problem. Beware. But that GMO grain, corn and soy is also full of growth hormones and antibiotics. The big food conglomerates are poisoning us.

I love grass finished beef I buy it from a local rancher Y T Ranch in West Texas to be exact it has a different taste some people don't like the gamey taste they are used to grain fed cows

I enjoyed your video. However, when comparing against grassfed regeneratively raised beef I believe the regen beef is environmentally beneficial, nutritionally superior in not just having more omega3 but vitamins and minerals as a whole, and also more ethical. The methane argument gets murky when considering the overall methane cycle.

That's kind of counter-intuitive. You'd think that "grass fed" means it ate grass it's entire life, and "grass finished" means it ate some grass just before it was slaughtered.

I’ll be damned if I will be worried about cow farts in today’s insanity going on.

Eat them without the flavorings to really taste the difference,…. to be most clear,… but I realize it can still be apparent.

IMO, the best flavor comes from grass fed but grain finished.
