I like the relaxed tempo of the Prélude; so many pianists seem to want to play it as fast as possible. Arrau gives it just the right amount of rubato to let it breathe. That said, I would let the last page or so gather momentum right up til the final chord, but is Arrau is convincing, too. Not sure about Clair de Lune, though, perhaps _too_ relaxed; there are places where it should flow more IMO.

I have to totally agree. Learning the Prelude and Clare de Lune as part of my diploma. The prelude is a perfect pace for me the other a little too slow .
@PedroDrPerico Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Despite some music experts say that Debussy played faster the Claire de lune (I think even there's an audio in KZbin of Debussy playing only the Claire de lune), I prefer it slow. It's a kind of spiritual, ethereal tempo. At first I didn't liked so much Arrau's rendition, but hearing him play, as an example, the Chopin's Nocturnes, you ought to know that he precisely chose this "slow" tempo, catching the mystical, ethereal and cloudy (yes, Claude and Claudio) air of this piece. Masterwork of both, composer and performer. Greetings from Mexico.
