The True Story of The Kneeling Drunkards Plea.
I sing and play guitar and tell the story of a young girl (5 or 6 years old) witnessing the Carter Sisters singing this song they had written growing up in rural Virginia. They had been inspired to write songs because of their mom Maybelle, Aunt Sara and Uncle AP Carter.
(The original Carter Family) A young Helen Carter is attributed to having to be that one that started writing the song originally and they all contributed something to the final result.
The year was around 1943 or 1944.during World War 2 at one of their "personals".
The young girl looks up and all the adults were crying and she didn't know why until a few years later. The song is about a severed relationship of a mother and a son God hears the man's prayers kneeling by his mothers fresh grave and answers them. During WW2 the Carter sisters and their mother Maybelle had a daily radio program on WRNL in Richmond, Virginia and would do personals or concerts at schools, parks, theaters during the evenings or weekends .
Their recording of The Kneeling Drunkards Plea at the end of the video is from their 1949/50 ABC network radio program broadcast coast to coast out of KWTO radio from Springfield Mo. They were a band. They all played instruments and sang lead or harmony vocals
