I use this process too, minus the vice, with mitigated results. Sometimes it smells very bad.... I keep all the IC cases scraps for eventual future retrieval of the gold (or just selling them in bulk on ebay to let someone else deal with it). Finding a decent microscope at an affordable price is a whole other story.

A USB microscope works good for for viewing dies up close. Not quite as good as a real metallurgical microscope, but much more affordable.

This is a really cool process, I do it all the time!

Cool video! one question tho, what temperature is the heat gun at?
@SeanBZA Жыл бұрын
Maximum temperature and lowest airflow.
@king_wing34 Жыл бұрын
@@SeanBZA Yes, but that doesn't help me, lets say my heat gun I have can get to 300C max and the one in the video can get to... IDK, 500C max I would like to know the temp used in the video.... @BG Tech? or if anyone else knows a good value, then do share :) also, too hot of a temperature can oxidize or ruin some stuff.....

@@king_wing34 The one used in this video is 500C but one Rated 480c would work well too. You can buy one for pretty cheep online.

Nice! Though "decapping" might be an understatement lol

Why would one want to extract the piece inside

To to view and inspect the structures and circuitry on the die that make the chip function.
