Today marks the completion of 94 years of service for the Deccan Queen. While I planned on capturing the train on its birthday run, unfortunately the train got cancelled due to the work being carried out at CSMT and Thane stations. Nevertheless, here is a clip of the Deccan Queen captured last week at Malavli, near Lonavala.
The Deccan Queen is one of India's most historic trains in service. Introduced on 1st June 1930, the Deccan Queen was the country's first Superfast train. It was the first train to be hauled by an Electric locomotive. It was also the first vestibule train, the first train to feature a Dining car and also the first train to have a Women-only car. Operated by Central Railways, the Deccan Queen connects Pune & Mumbai and is the fastest train connecting the two cities.
