You may kindly note that at the time the Deccan traps were forming, another small but interesting geological formation was created about 400 Km south. That was the coconut islands, St. Mary's Island or the Tonsepar islands. These islands are located near the town of Udupi in the coastal Karnataka. They are about eight Km from the mainland. However, they were formed by the same geological phenomenon as the Deccan traps. The island is made up of Basalt rock, which is a basic igneous rock, unlike the mainland nearby, which is made of acidic Granite and Gniss. The island features columnar formations and is one of 34 National geographical monuments of India. This is the only place in India, where you have the columnar rhyolitic geological feature.

Big time lapses are difficult to digest. Think like this. Assume 1 human year(365 days) equal to 1 minute. Then before 125 years, dinosaur's mass extinction happened. And 114 years ago, India departed from Gondwana and hit the Eurasian pate.

Pl do animation on EASTERN GHATS FORMATION PL
@zetaupsc6 ай бұрын
The eastern ghats formation unlike Himalayas or western ghats is very complex and it is spread over a very long duration and with unrelated events. The formation of eastern ghats is studied in very small regions because each of it had a different mechanism. These are things of higher studies and not part of upsc related geography. Hence my focus currently is to focus on important things

Shameful prejudice ridden ignorance.In the South,Deccan trap extends to several districts of North Karnataka.Goa is basically coastal alluvial and laterite. It appears,some Maharstra based ppl have great inhibition to talk about their relation with North K'taka even if it pertains to geography or Geology.
@zetaupsc3 ай бұрын
Yes dear u caught me, I am a member of a secret society meant for disassociating maharastra from Karnataka. In effect in another video a person pointed out that I am a member of a secret society for descrediting Tamil nadu
@gangadharhiremath73063 ай бұрын
You can recall disconnected patch of deccan trap of Sourastra and remote point of Amarkantak but (conveniently?)forget a continues stretch of more than 300km of Deccan trap that extends in to north K'taka in the south.What should I surmise?You can't hide your ignorance or prejudice under sarcasm. M'rastrians call Goa as western India when it is almost deep within south! You could recall miniscule area of Goa but forgot 300 km stretch. It is not a "secret society",it is an inculcated prejudice that manifests without ones knowing.
