I believe the beautiful plant you were sent is a Schlumbergera truncata, or crab cactus (Thanksgiving cactus, as its called in the US). The projections on the margins of the clades are pointy, or claw-like, while the Christmas cactus, Schlumbergera buckleyi, has rounder margins; the clade is oval, shaped more like a Christmas tree. True Christmas cacti are difficult to find here in the states unless you order off Etsy or a nursery that knows the difference, and sometimes even they don't get it right. Retail stores in the US are notorious for misidentifying them. I'm not sure if CC are easier to find in the UK. There is a third holiday cactus, Easter cactus, that blooms in the spring, for those of us that live in the northern hemisphere, and although it has similar clades to the Christmas cactus, the bloom is completely different. All are lovely. I collect many varieties and have about 30-35 jungle cacti in total. One of my Christmas Cacti is about 100 years old. I inherited in from my late MIL; it was her mother's plant. With proper care, they can grow to a ripe old age and monster proportions!

The first plant are generally called “November kaktus” in sweden and is sold quite a lot. They’re reaally easy to propagate too! All you do is stick a leaf in a propbowl or in the same pot again and it will almost suredly spawn more ( & it can actually live for several years if watered every now and then even if it is a christmas tradition plant here) 😂

yeah I think it's a 'thanksgiving cactus' technically, but aside from the leaves being more pointy, they're genrally the same

Hi Emma, enjoy your new plant and your hot cocoa. Please bear in mind Schlumbergera are toxic. The sap, when in contact with the skin (for instance when propagating), could cause irritations. Also keep it in a place where Cleo can´t get to it, because even accidental limited ingestion could make het quite uncomfortable. I really enjoy this series, keep up the good work.
