I ordered a bunch from ellusionist - madison dealers, rounders, and hellions. and thinking that they were all USPCC. I opened the hellions and wondered why they felt different, felt superior. The version of hellions I had say made in Belgium. I think I prefer Cartamundi over USPCC.

Great Review David! Just for a heads up, Cartamundi is much more expensive to print than Bicycle. For printing 10,000 decks (Ellusionist does a 10k run) with Bicycle its around 11,000$, but with Cartamundi the same is around 17,000$! Phew

I may have to cut down on custom decks if they keep going to cartamundi, as they seem to be starting to do in droves. I'm not saying the b9 stock is bad per se, I'm just so used to doing all my moves and flourishes with uspcc cards they feel odd with anything else. I'm institutionalised

Hi David! I’m embarrassed to admit that this is my first time seeing one of your deck reviews and now I feel very cheated for not knowing about your channel sooner!!! Somehow, with all the spying/all those algorithms on our devices to tell us what to like/buy/listen to/etc. they didn’t tell me to check out your channel! What’s up with that google? Not cool: for shame, that’s just lazy spy work in my opinion. ;) So I’m not sure you’ll see this, since you uploaded this video quite a bit ago, but maybe you’ll get a notification and get a chance to read this: just a quick apology in advance for my tendency towards verbosity in my comments. I really try to be concise in my comments/in my writing and a while ago I even attempted to be laconic for a week: I failed miserably and lasted less than an hour at the latter and clearly am not doing so well with the former🤦‍♀️. So apologies and bear with this entirely too gregarious fan of yours. First off: fantastic review of this deck in particular, but also of all your reviews!! Unlike me you can actually get your point across with highly infectious fun energy that is simultaneously concise and very informative about everything and anything a card collector/cardist/magician/etc. would need to know about a deck before purchasing! So thank you! I was wondering, and here’s the bit that goes back to my hope that maybe you’ll see and read this, despite it’s lengthiness and the fact that you did this video over a year ago. I was wondering if you’d given any more thought as to what the letters and mostly numbers on the inside of the tuck box meant. I know you said it was likely, I think the wording you used was “generic printing info”, which is almost definitely the case and normally I’d think nothing more on it. But then I noticed, at least in both my hellions (I have both the red and black backs, but my red backer has the awesome devil’s claw while my black backers don’t), that the inside tuck box, with the exception of one number being different, have the exact same letter and number sequence (the sequence being: red backs, “10000626_20002526-ZDR ART .ap” and black backs, “10000626_2002524-ZDR ART .ap”, so apart from the red backs “2526” and the black backs “2524”, the sequence is the same.) Again, I think you’re more than likely correct in saying it’s just generic printing info, except I know that sometimes these guys like to leave little Easter eggs for fans, and it was the “Art .ap” part that got my crazy gear wheels working overtime. Have you heard anything that would lend any credibility to the thought that maybe there’s something there? It’s just I’ve never seen any printing info in my decks before, and definitely not in any of Daniel Madison’s decks, hence my lengthy and bizarre question. Whether you get a chance to read this or not, I’m still a huge fan and just subscribed because you really are a fantastic reviewer! You actually saved me from buying a deck that I thought would be much more exciting than it turned out to be, and got me interested in a better deck: so thank you and please continue all the wonderful work!!! All the best, A fan prone to fits of prattling and jabbering on but will hopefully get it together in a succinct manner one day ;)

Wow, honestly I have not given those numbers a second thought since this first review. Now that you bring it up I believe they are variations of the Vigenère square or the Shugborough inscription and that deciphering it will lead you to treasures untold. Or ... I'm just hungry. Glad to have you on the channel

magicorthodoxy that was probably the best answer in the entire universe! And thank you for getting back to me! Thanks and keep up the amazing work... meantime I’ll get to work on variations of the Vigenère square, or maybe the Shugborough inscription... see I thought it was some odd variation of the Fibonacci series! Thankfully I’m on the right path now :) have a good one and keep up the brilliant work!!!

These cards look good, but I feel like the design is a little bit all over the place, cluttered. To me, especially in red, they look like a less refined version of the Whispering Imps (which are great in my opinion). Nonetheless, great review as always! P.S. The B9 stock from Cartamundi is awesome!

I think Cartamundi did a great job with R&D of new paper stocks specifically tailored for magicians/cardistry (see Touch deck) and at the same time they offer to playing cards designers a bigger variety of features (e.g. the cold foil I am using for the house of the rising spade) keeping the prices competitive. The B9 true linen is quite interesting, even though I do not like the texture that much. Registration and precision is impeccable even with thin white borders, and that is something that USPCC cannot achieve. I think we have a new player in the playing cards world, people seem to like their products :)
@TheGentlemanWake
@TheGentlemanWake 6 жыл бұрын
I agree Lorenzo, however my experience with the b9 is that not all of the decks that use it feel consistent from deck to deck. COuld be the amount of crush in the stock? The cobra deck feels fantastic. One of my favorites. The 310s feel very standard. And in the south florida humidity that deck gets thick and warped quickly.
@magicorthodoxy
@magicorthodoxy 6 жыл бұрын
All good points, but I'll always favor USPCC over everything else. Call em old fashioned. Oh and Cartamundi is almost 50 years old and has been making cards for casinos and half the world for a long time, so they aren't really a "new player" but I know what you mean.

hey Daniel are there any decks with actual chemical coatings on them? it sounds like some are, like the series 1800, but recent decks don't mention it much and it's hard to find out more info about coatings.

my name is "David" not Daniel - USPCC uses an aqueous coating now. There was an even older ‘Magic’ coating used while the plant was in Norwood but that was a while back. What more info are you looking for?

Hold up. Were you asked to review these by Ellusionist or DM? Wouldn’t this spoil their release and marketing strategy if any? Second, you just gave away the method to Skinner’s 3 Card Monte routine. Don’t do that in your reviews. That’s a marketed effect. Your reviews have slowly been giving away more and more secrets or methods about effects. I leaned the method to the Great Gatsby book test you reviewed cause I was able to pause the video while you flipped through the pages. No need to show that in a review. I own Skinner’s Monte and now everyone knows the method. Shame.

Ellusionist does not ask me to review any of their products.
@kyleleon85
@kyleleon85 6 жыл бұрын
magicorthodoxy None of what you said is true. The method to Skinner’s Monte is a miss-indexed card. That’s the method. People watching your channel who didn’t know that, now do and can easily work out the handling knowing this. With the Gatsby Book Test, you didn’t have to flip through the book to prove there were pages or text. But by doing so, you exposed the secret to how it works. Just talk about the effects and stop showing everyone what the gimmicks look like or what other effects they act as methods for. It’s giving it away. I already own and know these said effects so I’m not watching to learn the secrets. But I am watching you expose them unnecessarily within a review. I know it’s not your intention, but still. People are smart and it doesn’t take much of a clue to figure stuff out. If the trailer for the product doesn’t show the gimmick up-close, then your review shouldn’t either.
