I wish deck manufacturers would use matte gilding more often. It is more durable and this deck would look even more stunning with a dark/dull purple matte gilding.

You do not have to apologize for the way you feel about a deck. Speak your truth. Some will connect to a deck and some don't. We all relate to decks differently. Thank you for your honesty on review.

Fun fact: The 2 0f Cups in the Beautiful Creatures Tarot is a reworking of the Arnolfini portrait which is in the National Gallery. www.artsy.net/series/stories-10-art-historys-iconic-works/artsy-editorial-3-major-misconceptions-jan-van-eycks-enigmatic-arnolfini-portrait

Love this honest review! I have a bigger issue with the art for the Beautiful Creatures...I want to like it, but all I see are those 90s Bratz dolls with a twist of Precious Moments art. It’s frustrating though because I love the darkness to them and I love the subject matter of her art 🤷‍♀️😖I just can’t unsee it!!!!

You do not have to apologize for being honest. I would like to watch more honest youtubers. It would be helpful for creators of decks and for people who would like to buy ones. I do not like when glitter coming off so easily, so I prefer to use a vintage decks instead. Some are not beautiful but at least have a good quality of card stock. I love, love, love the owl reading cloth.

I love your honesty 💖 And the sparkly! purple! gilding is what attracted me too lol. I'm glad you were honest because while I really love the creepy/sweet artwork I wasn't convinced how it would work as a tarot deck... striking this off my wishlist (think I'll end up with the faerytale oracle eventually instead). Oooh that dragonfly cloth 😍 How Divine!

I love seeing honest reviews! So many people are watching deck reviews for help making buying decisions and it’s so good to know someone’s REAL experiences with a deck. I have a tough time with what I once saw someone refer to as “big head big eyes” artwork in general (why I also don’t own any Ceccoli decks despite liking a lot of other things about her artwork) but that Two of Cups would DEFINITELY be a deal breaker for me. A plague doctor on the Two of Cups???? Wut. The Animal Kin Oracle, on the other hand, is now on my wishlist. 😊

I was interested to hear how Beautiful Creatures worked for you, and I loved your review! If you were tired, it didn't show. You were insightful as ever. Everything you said made sense and was partly why I bought that deck in the first place and then ended up returning it. At least the Animal Kin Oracle was a winner!! xoxoxo

Anthropomorphize, and nothing wrong with that! I honestly am much more comfortable relating to my decks as energetic beings with personalities than I am calling on more detached guides or spirit helpers. So I definitely ascribe personalities to my decks and feel like I get to know and build relationships with them. Appreciate that you're honest in your reviews and what a shame about the gilding! It's a gorgeous color. I've been unsure about the Animal Kin because the border takes up so much space on the card, but I love the selection of animals and folks have recommended it as a good first animal oracle. I like the point you made about how the creator uses color, so maybe I'll have more of an open mind about the borders.

I have the first addition of the beautiful creatures, got it as soon as it come out, i found the expressionless faces hard to work with in tarot and the courts threw me, unless you go to book, it doesn’t say the names on cards 🙈

I haven't finished the vid yet but wanted to comment abt my experience with Beautiful Creatures. I have worked with it a lot over the last month or so...at first I thought I might use it as an Oracle. But after a short time, I fell out of love with the guidebook. SoI used it for my daily 3 card pull and relied on the keywords and my RWS knowledge. It *sometimes* read well. The Decadence was an issue for me...and of course, kept coming up for me! It has a faberge egg on it...for me I consider my ovulation card...and it comes up most when I'm hormonal! Which has added a new dimension to the Tower for me. But...even though I enjoyed the mental gymnastics for some of the keywords that pushed the RWS into different aspects of cards for me, I felt I didn't get much at all from the images. Sometimes no cards vibed with me at all. So I started a different kind of daily draw - splitting my "day" into 10 areas so I pulled a card for each activity of my day and didn't do much analysis. I guess I ended up using it as essentially an Oracle deck but with Tarot definitions drawn from my experience. It has opened me up to trying more key word decks...but I couldn't use the deck daily...I have to be in a certain mood to actually get guidance from it - essentially a bit premenstrual- so yeah, "bratty" sums it up quite well! I overhand and so far my gilding has held up but I find the finish irritating because I like to cut the cards to select and soooo many times I end up with two stuck together with these. I do like the finish over all though. I could complain about the size but I'm sure if they were smaller I'd complain they were too small for the art work! So for me....I'd summarise the good and bad points as follows: Bad... 1. Changed names of some cards doesn't make much sense with RWS knowledge 2. The guidebook is written with little stories for the characters and these sometimes don't reflect the image nor the RWS so they seem frivolous and I don't see the point. 3. The cardstock (size and finish) doesn't provide a pleasant tactile experience. 4. If you want to read from the images, some cards seem to give you the silent treatment. 5. The artwork is too samey- I love the Ceccoli for example, which I love...some people would find that too samey...but these are just figures and in some cards there are very few details to draw from the card that aren't a stylised character. And the characters seem to lack depth because of that. I feel this superficiality means to get a real reading from it you need bigger spreads. Good... 1. They keywords sometimes inspire you to explore a different aspect to a RWS definition than you would otherwise. 2. The artwork and presentation is unique so if the style vibes with you, you may enjoy working with it. 3. The astrological courts add a dimension to those cards that you could carry forward. 4. This deck seems to be more responsive whem my mood is changeable. It's like going out to Starbucks to gossip with an old school friend. If you need a chamomile tea and a heart to heart with a good friend, I don't think BC tarot has the vocabulary. But its superficiality means it's pretty blunt. And in particular moods, that is pretty unique to this deck (for me anyway!). 5. It seems to work best for big spreads with specific/defined positions. Which is a really great experience instead of one card daily pulls if you have the time for it. Xxxx

I just found your channel and LOVE your reviews, super helpful and honest. If folks don't care to hear honest feedback, oh well, that's their loss and loss of an opportunity to grow! I also LOVE how you modify your decks. Have you tried using a "Wink of Stella" glitter pen over the alcohol based markers that you edge your decks with? I tried it on a deck of playing cards to see how it would look and it is so pretty, just has a bit of dry time, totally adds a "wink" of sparkle and doesn't seem to flake off as of yet.You can find them on Amazon. I really look forward to exploring more of your channel!

I have GL. Clear 999. I used in on various art projects and it is such a nice shimmer. It is like a watercolor brush pen, so the ink is nice and flows well but does have to set otherwise the cards can stick together. Once it's dry, it's fine. I hope you like it!! @@Lisa_Papez

I'm really enjoying the Animal Kin! Did you ever get a chance to work with the Spirit Animal Oracle by Colette Baron-Reid?

I picked it up and flipped through it several times but it just wasn't resonating with me! The production value was good and the art beautiful - just something about it wasn't hitting home for me.

Thank you for doing both of these decks in one video! I’ve been after both so it was 2 birds and 1 stone for me. I’m sooooo glad I saw this before buying the beautiful creatures. Loved the art and keywords, however, the texture, guild quality and pairing of unusual images to certain cards has put me off so bad! You can tell they weren’t drawn specifically for the cards they were paired with. I prefer tarot cards to be closer to the traditional Rider Waite format... having no males and having figures on every one rather than structures, such as the tower etc is not my preference at all. You are totally right about the language, I mean decadence does not say tower to me, so it just doesn’t resonate. The courts being set up astrologically in the book is a mind boggle....why!?!? Think I’ll pass. As for the Animal kin, I’m definitely going to invest, it’s as good as I thought it would be. They seem so well thought out. Thank you for the informative video!
