WEEK ONE HUNDRED: Jan 29, 2025 WEEK 21
WOW! One Hundred Trains - One Hundred Weeks!
A classic mechanical marvel. From the early 1950’s it is Fleischmann® Set #1275/2, a clockwork 0-4-0 steam tender loco with freight cars, a circle of ( 12 of #1601 ) the early fiber sleepers track and ‘the key’.
So, Loco #1255 is pulling:
#1205 DB Open Goods Wagon,
#1210 DR Closed Goods Wagon.
The mechanical GFN Loco runs at 237kph ( 147.26mph ) around my loop! It makes almost 6 laps at a ten 1/2 hand crank setting, for a scale distance 1.4km, I’m afraid to wind any further. This is a ‘full power only’ runner as there is no rheostat, only a mechanical regulator to limit speed. And we can see it is an early model by the style of couplers. I don’t have many early pieces, but by substituting a different tender, we could compose train sets with rolling stock from the mid fifties and later.
So Part Two will be the same variations of rolling stock, but a newer electrified ( #1305 ) 0-4-0 loco and wagons. This unit runs at 263kph ( 163.4mph ) at full power, and only 170kph ( 105.6mph ) at 50% power.
And, why not both running together? A Competition? Not on the same track, obviously.
