Ah those sweet innocent days when the only decklists you had were the 1 or 2 starter decks your local toy store sold and sometimes, if you were really lucky, you could find a single booster pack to add more "uniqueness" to your deck than your friends at school, even if those cards were unusable in your deck. My strategy was to put out a Blue-Eyes and pray not to attack into man eater bug which my friend played 6 off in his 100 card pile deck😂

@@InvokedAlbaz Edison format is the format played in the March 2010 SJC Edison tournament. There was only one tournament with that specific ban list and cardpool, as The Shining Darkness was released shortly after the tournament, and sped the game up a lot in a (widely regarded) negative way. A lot of players agree that the format between the banlist and the release of TSHD was very balanced, with lots of decks being able to shine in different ways. Plus, there are a lot of tech choices, engines, and even entire decks, that weren’t explored, thus deeming the format as “unsolved.” The deck that won the tournament was Quickdraw DandyWarrior, though some of the notable decks people use now are: Blackwing, Fairy, TeleDad, Zombie, Lightsworn, X-Saber, Hero, Frog, Dragon, and Glad Beasts. Each with a ton of variations

Deck building for me as a kid was more so limited because I had no money and my father wouldn’t let me get them so I’d save up every dime I had and bought cards. I was forced to use what I could afford meaning I had dead cards in the deck just to fill it out to get to the minimum, but at the time that was most of the kids around and I actually put way more thought into it than “I don’t know”.
@Off-with-a-bang

True story but the only reason I got into Yugioh was because back when I was around 13 I was hanging out at a Kmart back when they were around,in the gaming section where one can play all the video game demos. Well long story short,there was this kid who bought three starter deck Kaiba's and cluelessly forgot about them. I saw the cards and tried to do the right thing by returning them,but the kid was long gone. So I kept them and that's how I got into the game. And this was when decks costed a pretty penny. That kid must've spent an entire summer's allowance on three decks and simply forgot about them 😅
@Kno_Buddy
@Kno_Buddy Жыл бұрын
@@Off-with-a-bang I never got an allowance as a kid. I’d just occasionally get a little bit of money for my birthday or Christmas because my father couldn’t be bothered to actually put any thought into his children ever. My brother and I got into the game when the show premiered when I was nine. My brother and I made our own cards and our own rules based on the show until we could afford to buy our first packs. By then we learned the rules, but we only had about 15 to 20 cards each so we modified the rules to play until we could get more. We finally got enough cards to build a little 40 card deck each with absolutely no synergy at all and some cards with effects that couldn’t resolve at all in the decks they were in just to get the deck up to 40 cards. We had fun for a while until on a construction job with my father I had to put my jacket down to go help run some wires and I forgot the jacket on the back of the truck. We drove away and it blew off the back of the truck and I never saw it again. Fast forward two 2010 and we are juniors and seniors in high school clearing out my grandmother’s house after she died and looking in the living room closet we found the deck my brother built in a ziplock bag stuffed in the pocket of an old jacket that was way too small to fit either of us now. Today I have almost 5,000 cards and with the exception of a few singles I purchased over the years all of it is from starter decks, legendary decks, packs, tins, collectors edition boxes, and about 20 of those Dark Side of Dimensions gold edition movie boxes so there still isn’t a lot of synergy there, but I just get what I can get when I can afford to get it. The competitive scene just really doesn’t spark that same joy and wonder I had with the game as a kid. That’s why I refuse to play competitive, I only play casually with friends.

The first one is me when building decks. Although I do have a strategy when building decks, I'm not a very sophisticated player, so the strategies I use are quite simple. (Most of my decks are simple beatdown decks. Bring out low level monsters to be used as tribute. Try to keep them protected while on the field until I can get out my large ATK beatstick that requires those lower monsters as tribute or for special summoning conditions. Maybe also try to clear my opponent's field. Then go for the attack. Yeah, I basically play like it's still the mid-2000s.)

Deckbuilding as an adult. Piecing together fringe top tier stuff or making heavy modifications or fusions or popular decks with additional longer game combos or developing more short term ways to get them out. Plus throwing in a few low card count bangers. Ie big monster or random unrelated lower level monster that just works well anywhere.

I used to come up with all types of themed decks and would duel my friends at the school library every morning before school started. That was back in 04 when I was a sophomore in highschool. Ahh...Those were the good old days days. I made so many friends playing yugioh. These days I only collect speed duel cards but it doesn't feel the same. I'm just glad I got to play the game when it began. Lol I remember going through my neighborhood looking for anyone to duel and win their cards from them. I used to think of myself as a rare hunter because I would take the cards I'd won back to my friends so they could boost their decks.

My thing was: "well, these are the cards I have. Oh, these are some big boys. Darklord Asmodeus, Darklord Zerato? And when I have my field spell out, they run over my friend's Blue Eyes deck! I wonder if there are more of these?" This was when the new support was still OGC. I still call the negate by it's translation sometimes, because "Darklord Divinity" sounds a lot cooler and more fitting for a Trap than _squints at card_ "The Sanctified Darklord". I then learned later that apparently they bubble most major events lol
