They would never release 3.0 before the desktop. They want everyone to have the option to first buy a super powerful Steam machine, then, they will release Steam OS to the masses and watch the PC market fall right into their pocket as people realize that Linux/SteamOS is KING!!!

It absolutely is releasing before desktop Lenovo is announcing a steam os device in like a week. Valve won't release desktop until Nvidia drivers are ready they won't release it if 70% of the market can't use it that would be hilariously stupid of valve.

Bought my Steam Deck back when they wanted 5 dollars to put it on hold and had three days to pay it off. I still use it for my portable gaming device and my tiny pc (Geekom 13; no Gpu) for when I'm home. I'm an old Gamer (50 today) so I go all the way back to the Atari 2600 as a kid, Nintendo, Palm, etc. I love this whole new scene that Steam Deck got rolling with Arch Linux. They're really got this (Steam) rolling here and I'm all for it. Thanks Jimmy for another cool review.

At this point, it feels like Valve knows something we don’t when it comes to windows dual booting support. It’s heavily rumoured that MS are working on a dedicated handheld OS. Potentially something we hear about at CES. If that’s the case I would imagine they’re holding off on dual boot support until that is in the wild. Rather than putting in the effort of a dual boot wizard for a bloated windows OS that nobody ultimately wants

I know what you mean about Windows. I got rid of Windows10 and installed Linux on my gaming Laptop, and I don't regret it. I think Valve should start to sell Steam Decks in stores across the world, because I showed off my Steam Deck OLED to four of my gaming friends, and they were blown away by it and now are thinking about getting one themselves. The thing is they had never even herd of a Steam Deck before. So that means there is a huge %age of gamers stuck with a Switch & to be honest we all know the Steam Deck kicks the Switches ass lol.

Man, I've always been a fan of Valve with how they treat their consumers and developers. After my wife got me a Steam Deck, it further cements their name to me as how Playstation did to me as a kid but now with PC. Now that consoles and PC gaming are finally converging even further, Valve is in a perfect spot to establish a larger base with SteamOS as their frictionless solution to get people into PC gaming similar to how consoles removed that setup overhead back in the days -- console-like and handheld alike. I always saw PCs sold like consoles made a ton of sense moving forward with a specialized OS like SteamOS to support it. I love the idea of them being called Steam Machines. I wish Valve more success as they carry gaming, PC handhelds, and the PC market forward!

@ashleybarnes9343 19 күн бұрын
@profanityandpancakes if the game let's you lower your analog stick deadzones then make them as low as possible as that makes it pick up smaller movements on the sticks which makes it feel more responsive, and just practice and get use to it, I was on console from the age of 6 till I was 15, got a pc at 15 and used mouse and keyboard, now when I use controller it feels alien and I suck at it but after a few days you'll start building up the muscle memory and you'll slowly get use to it
@thoryan946
@thoryan946 18 күн бұрын
@@ashleybarnes9343 Haha yeah it takes a lot of suffering, but also the flow of an FPS on console/analog sticks VS PC/Mouse and keys is totally different. PC is more twitchy and shooting quickly around tight corners. On console your reaction speed can only be so fast while maintaining accuracy so I take my corners wider and strafe a lot more. Doing that against someone on MKB results in getting headshotted pretty quickly. So it's not just muscle memory, but learning to adjust your playstyle for the control scheme too.

I would say 2026 or 2027 would be a possibility for a Steam Deck 2. With the New Steam Machines. I can also see Valve releasing 2 models of them. One having multiple options for dedicated GPUs from AMD which would cost the most amount of money and the 2nd model would just be an APU like with the Steam Deck but more powerful. Also depending on how and what Valve wants to do they could use an already made APU that AMD already has or make another custom one like AMD did for ASUS and Lenovo. Also have the Steam machines have at least 32gb of RAM. However knowing Valve they would probably want to use a custom APU that is geared towards a TV style box type system.

I've always wondered if they would ever launch something like a "Deck Lite", mostly the same shell, but stripped down, running on ARM or something; either strictly for streaming from the user's main gaming machine (via Steam Link), or additionally capable of standalone play with some selection of games that run reasonably on the lite hardware with a different architecture translation layer and the rare few native ones. Not that far fetched considering some PC VR games have been ported to the Androidish Facebook Quest and other standalone non x86 VR headsets.

Hey, I would have loved it if there was a disclaimer at the start of the video saying that this was a predictions video, because based on the first 2 stories you mentioned (ROG ally and Lenovo maybe (probably) getting SteamOS), I thought the rest of the video was going to be news, and it looks like the rest of the video is 100% pure speculation. Some clarity would help is all.

I have absolutely no motivation to switch to Sony have 2 decades of Xbox, I have had Xbox and Valve side by side for 2 decades, I can play a lot of my Xbox stuff on my Steamdeck, but if I’m committing to something it’s absolutely Valve.

I don't think Microsoft will have an Xbox OS that you can install on any device. I think it'll be something that comes preinstalled on a variety of handhelds or console-style form factors. That's not to say people won't get a general purpose image up and running but I'm not sure it'll come in an official capacity for unofficial devices.

I currently have an Xbox series X, PS5 pro, switch, steam deck, ROG ally, ps portal, meta quest 3, and psvr2. I buy everything and any improvement to any of them is a tremendous win for consumers. I would like to see ROG ally receive steam OS and a new Microsoft mobile update just so updates and jumping into games is easier. I just really want cool consumer friendly updates to everything. I also would like to see more quality vr games going forward for psvr2. Imo so much potential is being wasted

When the CEO Gabe Newell of valve himself runs a gaming company and he himself games I'd like to think that Gabe himself wants what's best for the gamers instead of someone like Microsoft where they are purely just focused on quarterly ratings and money overall I think that valve has the better chance of coming out on top overall because they are more focused on the community and what they want than only their own personal goals, they listen to the community where as for Microsoft they have no community just focus groups and investors.

Microsoft have had an open goal opportunity to combine Windows and Xbox into a gaming-centric OS for years and have squandered it. They'll need to work fast to catch up, not to mention probably having to reorganise their entire corporate structure, if they're going to compete with what Valve has in store.

Hot Take: If Valve spend effort to make the GameScope session work on Nvidia GPUs, the quality and reliability of GameScope will take a significant drop for everyone due to the janky workarounds they would need to use for Nvidia compatibility

To be honest, I am glad SteamOS is coming to other platforms, but it will have to be something special now to beat Bazzite, which gives near all the extras you need, out of the box, unlike steamOS which is fine if you are more technically minded, but Linux is not user friendly to noobs, even SteamOS which is one of the better distros on the ease of use front.

Honestly I rather have a dock that has a more powerful GPU to play on higher resolution TV, rather than a separate box. Most Steam game work great on the Steam Deck, but connecting it to a TV the APU simply can't keep up for any more advanced games.

Rather dual boot window 10/ Steam os. Yeah I really hope steam os has proper GTX/RTX driver support. I hope Valve has hired coders or hire ex Nvidia coders. And yes I hope we see steam box/ steam console with with proper dedicated GDDR6 (256 bit bus or better) Vram with steam os 3.6 or newer.
