The very hungry caterpillar was my sons favorite book. He knews every single line of it and one day i saw him at age 3 "reading" this book to his two years old little brother. No way this book will ever leave our family 😅 It's treasure. One of the few treasures we keep as minimalist.

Hey this is the first time you've hit an emotional roadblock and kept decluttering. Normally you freeze up and finish the video soon after. Maybe a konmari on all the baby toys together would be like the crafts, you'd keep the best memories and see the excess with an abundance attitude instead of a grief/lack of childhood attitude. To watch your children grow older is a blessing. ❤️ It's not a lack, it's a incredibly beautiful place to be.

Yes I kept, some duplo, two types of shape sorters, some books and a few games that my 15 month old grandson is using when he comes over 3 days a week. He also brings some of his toys from home, so I'm glad I didn't keep too much. Also he's just as thrilled with clanging pot lids together (drives his parents nuts in their place but I'm happy to indulge him) or discovering things in the garden. It's pretty easy to entertain them without a tremendous load of stuff.

Please include more of this because decluttering emotionally is how so many of us have to operate. You moved out a Dalmation tee shirt🎉 I have State quarters too ! JELLIES!! When they came out, they were the bomb 😄 I still struggle with the kid toys even with my children being adults now. Some are mine 🤭. No grandkids but I have a great niece who’s 7 and she enjoys them. I am mourning over missing my children who live across the country. I am mourning over feeling I wasn’t a great parent, present enough when they were small. I absolutely let go of some toys and continue to weed out more. I want to thin it out to a curated collection of those toys really loved by my kids in case I do have grandchildren. That’s my plan, anyhow. Container method, yes?! Some donation places take stuffed animals. Mine are pristine. Oh… what to do with the Beanie Babies?! 😂 Books…. Lots and lots of books! Love ya!

YES YES YES! 😃That was so brave to tackle babystuff! And your goal with it is not to get rid of as much as possible, but to curate your memories, take care of them and give them a safe home. Translated that says to weed out things that that don’t trigger an „OOOOH, do you remember? That was soooo cuuute!!“, make sure there are no trashes or biohazards with them, and contain them all in marked boxes. No deed to get rid of anything if these three boxes are checked off 💜

My favorite place for getting rid of unwanted things is Freecycle. Of course you can just haul stuff to charity, and I do that with smaller items, but so much just goes to the landfill-I’d rather give people who will actually want and use something the best shot I can of having it. As for sentimental items, I always tell myself that I don’t have to declutter anything sentimental, but that I have to touch it once a month. I’m at a point know where that is manageable. Eventually that helps separate the truly precious items from the ones that maybe don’t mean as much. Anything sentimental I discard I photograph before letting it go, so that I can tell myself I am parting with the item but not the memory. ❤

With the baby toys, you know that no more are coming in to your family, unlike clothes or miscellaneous stuff or the boys current toys. I’ve seen you get rid of lots of the ones they played with as older boys. I think allowing yourself to keep a curated special collection of baby toys is absolutely okay and you know that collection won’t grow out of hand, there is a limit to it and they are simply sentimental like your items from the 80s/90s. Maybe one episode in the future you could do a Kon mari of all the baby toys like you did with the Christmas decor, and you may find some things you can say goodbye to, but I think the goal should be a special curated collection not to get rid of them all ❤

I think it is wonderful that you are allowing yourself to go though these baby toy bins again because I really do know just how hard this is for you. I did just want to suggest though, that I think your children (your eldest in particular) has been sending you subtle signals recently that they want you to let them grow up more; and that by holding on to so many of these kids items you could be unintentionally sending them signals that you are a little sad that they are growing up. This could mean they stay playing with or allowing you to keep their old play things just to please you and to comfort your nervous system, when really they may just want to move on. So maybe try to push your comfort zone a little and discuss this with your children to see how they feel about what you are keeping and why, to make sure their journeys are not being interrupted in any way by your own journey. I wish you joy always Ms Heart, and so I hope you see I am saying this genuinely with you and your families best wishes and interests at heart.

Great job! I vote to get rid of the cleaner/vacuum. Chances are the electrical cord is no longer safe. You did a wonderful job with such emotional items. I kept a couple of toys from my childhood. A couple of raggedy Ann and Andy's and one of those old wooden Fisher Price bees that you pulled by a plastic cord. I take them out once in a while to look at them and struggle with whether to get rid of them or not. They don't really take up much space, so I keep them.

Maybe before you actually let go of those really sentimental items, take pictures of different angles and put them in an album that way you can always look back and reminisce. Another idea is to decorate a room with them on mini shelves up high and scattered. Once you look at them on a regular basis, you can mentally program yourself to finally let it go one by one and you will be ok with it.

When you are ready, well after you finished going through the whole basement once, you will find you will be able declutter the baby toys like you did with the Christmas stuff. I have a question that maybe you can answer. For example the baby things and kids toys. Do you think that you avoid dealing with them because of the hurt you will have to go through? In everyone’s life we all have extremely difficult and hurtful things we go through such as the loss of a loved one, losing a job, moving and leaving your extended family behind, empty nests, divorce and so on. We have to accept the hurt, deal with it, live through it and time will heal. But if you never let go of these things they will always be there to cause pain. God gave us an amazing ability to deal with heartbreak and we can overcome it in time but we need to act on it, pass through it and move on. We will survive. Live for today, not in the past. The past is over and there are wonderful blessings to enjoy now. Much love to you, Donna

I can understand the feeling of not wanting to let go of things. I want to move in to a much smaller place but just thinking about it bothers me, knowing I won't be able to keep all of my stuff. I have things from 40 + years ago and I don't want to get rid of them. Dishes I purchased week by week when the store would have them on sale. I have another set that I collected that were the the ones we ate off when t was a child. Then there are the antique set of the 4 bowls (blue, red, green & yellow). I haven't used most of these things in years. I don't want to let them go! I'm getting up there in years and don't have any children that I could pretend, wanted them. I wouldn't even consider giving them to my neice or nephews. Sorry, off track here but it showes how much I care for my things.

I fully understand my friend…there is a deep rooted connection to your things 🙏🏽 And that’s okay, we can look at other items that we’re not as emotionally attached to. We can let that go with gratitude, thanking it for being in our lives and blessing someone else with it. It’s all about taking baby steps in the right direction 🩷🩷
