My current couch is super deep, so if we’re watching a movie we will move the throw pillows and nestle into the couch crevices, but if we’re just sitting down for a minute or sitting and conversing with folks, we put a throw pillow behind us so we don’t sink back so far. Before this couch, I was team anti-throw pillow because we never used them and my dog ate them! But now I love them because they have a purpose in making our lives more comfortable (and it helps that the dog grew out of the “eat everything” phase)

I have functional but cute throw pillows. I like having a pillow to rest my head on when I'm really lounging. My dog also loves them so they have to stay. I make sure to use the zipper covers so I can wash them. What I don't use are all the bedding pillows. They look really nice when I have company over but they live in the top shelf of my closet 99% of the year.

My aunt goes ham on her closet like once a month and immediately gives away huge bags of clothes to family members. Then we’d wear the clothes around her and she goes “Hey that’s my shirt I was looking for that!” Then take it back 😂 she’s done that to multiple family members several times haha

Someone once taught me to set items aside for 6 months, so... we do have a six-month bin. If we dont touch it, then it gets set into the "donate pile". Stuff gets donated 6 months after that (so...basically you've held onto it a full year). Many times we've pulled items from donating OR been able to give directly to a neighbor, co worker, church when certain items are in need and we have it set aside for donation. This helps save us (and people we know) from spending out of pocket. This method of purging only works if you have the space to store a bin or two for a year, though.

I love watching Dawn @ The Minimalist Mom! I've learned a lot from her. I've been minimalizing for about 5 years. It goes in stages, or layers, like Dawn says. I enjoy her process to only keep what you actually use, and to reduce the urge to store stuff for "maybe one day." That "one day" never comes, I have found! I still have more to do, but I am already seeing the benefits of having less stuff to deal with, and knowing what I have and where it is! Keep at it! Oh, just a note...life changes, so our needs change. Don't feel bad to let something go that is no longer needed. It is OK!
@julien15604 жыл бұрын
Depending on how old your oldest child is, I would reconsider getting rid of all those items. Instead you can set some aside for that child's first apartment needs. A lot of those smaller glass dishes/bakeware would be fantastic in a bin for "first apartment" needs. Throw pillows are great in a car as an emergency pillow. I keep one pillow with a warm blanket in a small laundry basket in my trunk. Great for traveling(lone driver) if you need to stop for a quick nap at a rest stop.
@reginastastytable30924 жыл бұрын
I have a lot of serveware - I don't use most of it all that often, but when I do need them I don't want to worry about having to find something that will work, or buying again; my solution was to set up shelving in my garage that is for my small kitchen appliances, chafing dishes, and serveware I don't use all that often, and I keep them covered (to keep them clean) with clear plastic bags so I can see where everything is when I do need to use something. I think the biggest win doing this was that my small kitchen appliances I don't use all that often, but do want to have when I do need them, have a place to live outside my kitchen!

Purge mode is my life! I’ve been doing the 30 day declutter game and have gotten rid of so much crap! Day one you purge one thing, day two you purge two things, etc. At the end of 30 days you will be almost 500 items lighter. You can even print off a calendar to help you keep track. Just mark the days off as you go. And carry over if you need to. I think I tackled days 1-5 all on my first day. As for throw pillows...I love them. I have feather pillows and for my family, they add comfort. We use them so we keep them. If you hate them they need to GO!

The white oval dishes with handles are gratinerieres . I couldn’t live without mine. Of course I don’t make cauliflower cheese for twelve, so maybe they’re small for you, but you might find them in my house, oven to table, containing vegetable gratins, puréed vegetables, or even bread pudding. I like one throw pillow for back support and that's it. I did a 30 day decluttering challenge in August. I love Dawn (The Minimal Mom) because she's so relatable to me. Our kids are in the same age range, she doesn't make minimalism "look weird", and she puts her faith and family first. She's my go-to on KZbin for simplifying. And Shannon Torrens (who also does minimalism content) just did an experiment with her throw pillows because they were stressing her out. So you're not alone! Ok one more thing regarding the donation center. I have hesitated including breakable items (like your serving dishes) because I have sometimes seen boxes/bags of donations get thrown around when being unloaded. I want my donations to go to someone who will use them - not get broken the minute they leave my car! But right now, my location is having the donor (aka me!) unload the items from the car, so I can make sure my items are donated in one piece. A small hurray!

Even ordered a new coffee table for the living room and I have plans to get rid of the extra table we have taking up too much space in the dining room.
