When my mother was alive, I became a coupon clipper. I had to take over the grocery shopping, and as I had to limit the riskier jobs in my tree care service, my income declined. When she passed, the coupon clipping habit remained. I found it soothing and nostalgic. Now I have a big pile of them in a gift bag a friend gave me (that's another story). I used to be able to use them combined with bogos and sales and save a fortune!:) That was before the crash. These days, it's mostly new items companies are trying to promote, so it's a crap shoot as to whether I'll use them or not. So, out they go. That's an easy one. No nostalgia for something I'll never use, anyway.:)

I love decluttering videos! I like the way you give the rationale for keeping or tossing things when decluttering. I feel cheated when people show a mess, turn off the camera, then turn it on just to show the result and omit the process. Loved this video!

Love your work Melody...you, and others like you, help me keep it real. I am not a minimalist however I do purge when I am out of control, or when I 'feel' like I have turned a 'life-corner', or when other people reflect/mirror back to me that I am in a muddle. Hoarder Heal Thyself? The Japanese start the new year cleaning and discarding and we have Spring Cleaning. As we are close to retirement I am right sizing with a view to döstädning: Swedish death cleaning. Just a thought...and yes I know this declutter is done and dusted...I suggest next time you take any OOD [out-of-date] scripts or OTC [over-the-counter] medications back to the chemist. I liked when I was in Viet Nam they gave me just a few headache tablets, just cut them off the sheet, so no out of date disposal issue there. Wish we could have that option here in Australia, and the wider western world. Enough of the JICs, Just In Case already especially if, for most of us, there is a chemist not that far away. Another thing re: spare buttons...I saw on my husbands shirt that the spare was sewn on just under the bottom button so I have been doing that whenever I get a new shirt, or I sew it on the tag on the side seam. No more looking for a matching button...and win win...when I donate it the new owner has the spare. I wish all the manufactures would do it as there is absolutely no need to have more plastic in the system is there? Monday 19 February 2018

I found it interesting that you don't segregate and categorize things like I do and have more containers! It's looked like the Container Store blew up at one point, alot of those are sold, and more to go. I've moved to an 800 sf apt on a mini farm last year (I'm in Fl), so I've down down down sized and still at it, want only what I need. Took care of my Mom until last yr when she passed, so, have dealt w/ it all, selling online, donating, giving away anything I'm not using. I've been following you awhile and enjoy you very much and used alot of your tips. I have 3 cats, so, I enjoy Pat. God Bless Sandee

The "think alouds" are surprisingly helpful. BTW, when I get extra buttons, I put them in my sewing kit. Simple repairs - like replacing buttons - increase the life span of your garments.

Love this video! I'm currently overseas on holiday in Japan (staying with relatives) & you've made me want to declutter & sort through the stuff I brought over with me in my suitcase! I packed 2 pairs of sandals, some tops & dresses and I've hardly worn them... I'm going to toss them because I don't even use them that much in my home country (Australia) either.. thanks again Melody. Your channel is the only channel I enjoy watching on you tube! It's all I need. Can't wait to get back to Australia now so I can declutter my first aid kit too! Hahaha...!!

Hi Melody! Great video as usual. I am currently decluttering my basement..? (I hate basements) 😖I realized once something goes in the basement it never really comes out again.....better to get rid of it somehow because it only breeds dust, dirt, mold and clutter!

I am currently on a 2week trip with my hubby and was gone to work for 7days prior to leaving. Everything I have with me fits in a tote bag and a carry-on. The only thing I have wished to have is a sweat shirt bcz I get cold easy and my cardigans aren’t quite keeping me warm. This has been so incredibly eye opening. I think Decluttering when I get home will be much easier after this time away with contentment.

Hi Melody! I just finished my "September Sweep," which was me focusing on one area to declutter and organize throughout the month. My kitchen, medicine chest, linen closet, and makeup bags are much more streamlined. I may extend it to an Autumn Sweep.

My daughter hast to declutter two times last year by giving to the salvation army, to the homeless, and to those who really need the clothes, toys, and other things that she didn't need. I also had to give to the salvation army last year, to neighbors, and to others to donate to Haiti. I have things I truly need right now. My daughter have things she's holding onto for me to pickup.

Hi Melody, I was wondering what your stance on was for donating to which organizations. I was donating to Salvation Army until a friend of mine showed me some articles about their bad practices toward women, the disabled, and the LGBTQ communities, etc. I would prefer to donate to Goodwill but I don't have a car for to move things like furniture. What do think of SA or where is your favorite place to donate? Thanks.
