@LabNYorkie5 жыл бұрын
I decluttered when I became chronically ill, dealing with pain and other symptoms. Without your health, you have nothing. Owning things I no longer needed seemed bizarre to me. I kept my jewelry and art glass because they're pretty. But, the rest - out it went. My purses, my dress clothing for my old job, my good shoes for weddings/events and my business shoes for work were the first items to go - I donated them to thrift shop. Frankly, I don't have the strength to clean and dust as often as I used to so, less clutter means less need to dust. I love this video and it's making me think of what else I need to go through to donate or give away. I hope you have more good days and feel much better. I wish you well.
@Shadowlight114 жыл бұрын
I’ve been feeling like I need to do this. I’m chronically ill and I can’t keep up with the dusting and cleaning with so much stuff. I’ve struggled with the idea of getting rid of things, especially anything related to my old life or a life I’d hoped to have when I got better... but it’s been years that I’ve been sick, so.. Reading your comment makes me realize it’s time to let go to make things easier on the person I am right now.
@LabNYorkie4 жыл бұрын
@@Shadowlight11 It took a while to admit to myself that my life change was permanent. Because acknowledging that meant fully understanding that my body wasn't going to be the same no matter how much I wished it to be or worked towards it. Some things I donated quickly, other things I held onto because I wasn't ready to accept all of my new life. It is cathartic to tackle this. I started with just 1 dresser drawer. Eventually I went through all 6, my closet, my shoes, purses and my desk. Things that mean something to me remain here. There are objects whose only purpose is that they make me happy to see them; my art glass and Swarovski are beautiful to look at. So these stayed. A charity I support has a thrift shop, the proceeds of it items sold there go to the charity. So that's where I donated the more financially valuable things (like the purses). Clothing went to another thrift store whose proceeds benefit a hospital. If you want to begin, start with one spot or drawer. Be patient and kind with yourself. Don't give away things that you currently use or that have sentimental meaning unless you have so many sentimental items that you're drowning in them. In that case, prioritize them. Some of them you can keep in your memory by taking a picture of them and then gifting or donating the thing itself. I do have some clothing pieces that can be worn for a fancy event but those kind of things (e.g. weddings) happen less frequently now that family and friends are married. The vast majority of my clothing is comfortable. You can still look really nice and be comfortable. I'm more picky when I do shop. If a material isn't soft and predominantly cotton, I don't give it a second look. I hope what I've included will be helpful to you and hope you feel well.
@Shadowlight114 жыл бұрын
LabNYorkie all of this is so helpful, you have no idea. And you’re right about clothing and comfort - my standards for what clothing I wear have changed and I now value comfort and quality over everything else. I’ve been tackling the decluttering in small steps as health allows. Your words are so inspiring and helpful, thank you! I wish you well. ❤️

A neat trick for silver jewelry so you don’t have to polish them one at a time: boiling water, baking soda and a piece of aluminum foil. Then put the jewelry in. 15-30 second max. Rinse and and dry

It shouldn't hurt after they're healed. My cartilage piercings never healed completely because I didn't realise that I have a nickel allergy. If you have the same problem you could try again with a nickel-free metal, and make sure you do proper piercer-approved aftercare [usually involves saline soaks] -- and definitely do *not* go somewhere that uses a piercing gun.
