I started decluttering after having some health issues. My daughter and son did NOT want my collectibles being left to them. I started the decluttering by getting rid of easy stuff and I have (after a month of decluttering) starting to donate the more sentimental items from my home. I am so much more relaxed without the clutter and collectibles. It's a good thing.
@simply.clutterfree Жыл бұрын
Shannon you've done a great job of showing how important maintenance is over the years. It makes me sad when I see huge decluttering videos from KZbinrs followed by "hauls" or shopping sprees because they don't seem to be making the connection that you have to be so careful about what you bring in or you don't make the true progress to a minimal home.

Yes! I started my minimalist journey 3 years before we moved. We had a lot of stuff after 45 years in Alaska! I went through my house 3 times. The last time we sold most of our stuff and moved to Utah to be close to my kids in ONE pod! We are redoing an unattached garage (my husband is a builder) and we went from a 3 bedroom house to a small 600sq foot home! And we have all we need! I'm so thankful.

Isn’t it kind of crazy how our STUFF can rule our lives? And how we don’t initially realize that. We don’t look around and say, “Wow, this is too much stuff.” We just think we’re unorganized and feel ashamed. And overwhelmed. Then we hide our homes. Then we isolate ourselves. Then we feel disconnected. Then we don’t take care of ourselves. Then feel depressed. All stemming from having too much stuff! Half of which we don’t even care about. It’s crazy. You are profoundly helping so many people, Shannon❤️
@shannontorrens1 Жыл бұрын
Thank you Lisa, I agree with everything you said. It is true we can feel like somehow it's our fault when we can't stay organized when really it's just having way to much. I hope you are having a great day.

When YT first came out I thought it was just videos of cute cats and stupid people. Then my then teenage son said, no I am learning to play guitar and how to fix cars. I'm like ,what?? So I took my first step, I watched quilting videos. Then I thought I'd like to learn how to knit and found podcasts of ladies and their knitting. I still don't know how to knit a sock, but I sure enjoy the day in the life of normal people. I don't watch tv, it is a waste. instead, I am inspired to grow food, be creative, and even minimalize and clean house. When the news is all about people hating each other, I watch good people like you and read nice comments from other good people. Thanks for putting it out there. Keep up the good work.

I have had 3 relatively recent things that influenced me to deeply declutter. Just a couple of weeks ago, my husband's uncle dropped dead in his flat and was not found for 3 days. He is a hoarder and the place is full, and filthy. My husband and his siblings are having to go thru every box, as they are finding money in strange places, which will pay down the funeral costs, and cannot find a will or anything. He owns the building and the lot next door so they are trying to go thru all the paperwork. I am determined to not leave any kind of mess for my children and my paperwork will be in order.

How many things have we all bought that we didn't use for long? Usually, these items end up in the garage or attic. If we bought carefully each item and purchased only what we need; think how much money we could save? Money that could be spent on experiences with family or friends. Love your videos. Can't wait for you and Mom to continue your garage clean out!

I have been in minimalist journey for six years and I never regret for things I decluttered. What has helped me is to change my mindset to needing less and be more mindful of what I bring in the house. I have gained so much more empty breathing spaces and above all, time and money to shop for things I can live without.

Shannon, your Vlog has been life changing for me. I have finally decluttered all the smaller sizes that no longer fit me and I am in the process of decluttering all of the many photo albums that I have. The process of decluttering before organising is what finally got me started!! All the duplicates and blurry or faded photos are coming out of the albums. You gave me the method and the inspiration!! I’m over the mental block I had and I’m getting it done!!! Thank you! And your Mom!!

Thank you for sharing your journey through decluttering. I also started mine when I began working from home. Staying home all day opened my eyes to so much unnecessary stuff. Now my son and I declutter a few times a year and the transition wasn't as bad as I thought it would be. We were both able to look at items and quickly decide if it would be a yes or a no. I had a few maybe piles, that after a a few passes eventually made it to the no pile. We can truly enjoy our free time now. Now, my neighbor is a hoarder and I give her gentle motivation to taking steps to declutter. Its been over a year now and barely any progress. I understand that there are so many layers, even painful ones that she's gotta work through. It's her journey, not mine. Just hoping she can trust and embrace the process so that she too can have better quality of life. Thank you for sharing

I've been with you since around the beginning of your minimalist journey as I started a year ahead of you! But I am not quite as minimalist as you with my kitchen dishes and equipment and I slipped up last summer with clothes when I discovered the Coastal Grandmother style and bought a bunch of beige, light blue and linen things. Oh well, I still have very little decor and my furniture has been reduced and I am constantly looking around the house to see what else I can get rid of! I'm a minimalist at heart!

You continue to inspire me, and I so love the videos you do with your mom. You are also an incredible artist! I cannot even draw stick figures, LOL! Btw, I don't know if you have one where you live, but I belong to a local "Buy Nothing" group, and it is amazing how many items, especially children's things, that you can get for free!
