Yes, Simon. The moving thing is done in America. We recruit friends and family because hiring a moving company is very expensive. Also, some people don't trust strangers with their stuff.
@ridethroughlifertl

Yeah, if you want to pay several hundred dollars to have some of your stuff broken, that's when you hire a moving company.
@OkieOtaku
@OkieOtaku 2 жыл бұрын
@@ridethroughlifertl I used to work for a major moving company (it was Mayflower), I can tell you right now, that whole thing of moving companies breaking your stuff is VERY rare. In fact it's proven that your stuff is more likely to get broken when YOU move your own stuff, than when you hire a professional mover. Why? Because the moving company is financially responsible for those damages. They're a business, they REALLY don't want to pay that. Moving companies also have to have very special insurance for hauling household goods, and have to be approved by the FMCSA/USDOT to do so as well

Fact boi has it made! Never had to move your own sh!t from one place to the next?? And as far as why I wouldn't hire a moving company to do it is because that would cost several hundred, more likely over a thousand dollars, or i can call up 2 of my friends on a Saturday morning and it only costs me a case of beer and some 🍕. MUCH cheaper

IIRC the leading theory is that after he left the river and climbed the embankment, he tripped and fell into a culvert. He got back up, still slightly drunk and lightly concussed. Made it a bit further through a field where he passed out, and was unfortunately consumed by a combine. The reason there's never been a body found is because his tattered remains were swiftly consumed by the wildlife.

Kevin thank you SO much for providing subtitles to the video clip at the beginning, makes it so much more fun when I understand WTF you are saying 😅 Bathing with your kids is pretty common in the U.K. too, but it tends to be either 2-3 kids together in the tub with an adult supervising, or a parent and a smaller child (often under 3). I believe in Japan is culturally common to bathe together as a family? It was also how we bathed when I was a kid too, parents went first, then a teen got a bath to themselves and finally the under 10s were put in together and supervised. Saved a lot of water, and kept the hassle of bathing everyone to a simple system one evening every other day (sometimes every 3 days) rather than an exhausting routine of dinner, baths and bed every night with lots of kids running around lol. I am so excited to watch another of these episodes!

Simon being very upper class in his understanding of moving. There's 3 stages of moving. "I'm new to being out on my own and renting fully furnished places with all the kitchen utensils and whatnot, I just need to move 3 boxes, a suitcase and my computer" "I have a bunch of boxes of stuff to move but I'm still not financially established and thus a friend with a pickup truck or a rent-a-van is a big help" "I have a ton of stuff including furniture and everything to move, but I'm financially established and thus can afford professional movers." Someone skipped step 2. Moving companies exist, but they're also expensive. Folks need to make a living doing this, and a friend who will give you a day in exchange for a $12 pizza is a hell of a lot cheaper than a moving man who needs a day's wage plus whatever the company's share of the profits are for that day.

Simon, we have pickup trucks in the US. Pickup trucks make up about 20% of all vehicles in the US. It varies depending on state, of course, with Wyoming coming it at the top with 37% of all vehicles being pickups. If you don't have a pickup truck, then your dad or your neighbor or your cousin has one and you get their help in moving. There's no need to hire a "van" when you have a pickup truck. (For the Americans following along: "van" is euro-speak for a box truck, not what we would call a van.) Moving companies do exist here, but why pay a stranger to break your stuff when you can get your friend to do it for a few slices of pizza? Moving companies are mostly used by people who are moving long distance (your cousin Larry isn't likely to let you take his truck 2,000 miles away) OR wealthy people who have more money than friends. Another option is to simply rent a moving truck (aka a "van"). For somewhat more than the cost of a pizza, but less than the cost of hiring movers, you can rent a truck, pack it up yourself, and send your blood pressure into the stratosphere with a white knuckle drive across town, during which you pray that you don't take out any mailboxes with the monstrous thing.

To answer your question about moving companies in the US, Simon; yes, we have them, but they are really expensive. Most people would just get a U-Haul if they have a lot of stuff, but that’s just a trailer you can rent. You would still need to either pack everything yourself or alternatively get some friends or family to help you

@foxhoundp9949 2 жыл бұрын
You can get extra services from U-Haul like a driver and movers trust the U-Haul lesbian 😂 and it's still all pretty cheap it's just most people drive, so they rent a small truck themselves. My ex was a truck driver so of course that's what she wanted to do. My family hires teens which just feels a lot better than giving money to the company. We paid a few boys just hanging out in a park nearby to unpack our truck with us, gave em lunch and about $30 bucks each which is basically the rate for movers with a U-Haul. They were actually excited they went from having a flat basketball and doing nothing to free lunch and $30 extra at 15-17.

We tend to have larger homes than in the uk, and loads more stuff to fill them. 4 years ago after we retired from the army we moved cities. We are a family of 6. We didnt have extra furniture or cars, nothing overly heavy or fragile etc. and we were moving 1,000 miles. Our quotes for pickup, transport and delivery( no packing) started at $8000 and went up to $12,000. Adding in them helping pack and it went up about $1500. I helped my single aunt move 500miles and she had a 1bed apt. Having them pack, load, transport and deliver was still $5300! You can rent a moving truck and If you have friends and family help you pack and load it, then you drive it yourself you can get it for less than $1000.

I feel like I always hear stories about moving companies breaking people's stuff cuz they just don't care. As someone in the states, I find that a lot of people refuse to spend the money on a moving company so we either rent a U-Haul and get friends to help us load and unload it, or you recruit friends with large vehicles and have a moving party, thus saving on the cost of a U-Haul as well.

I had heard about the first one from another youtube show, and I remember the second one because I distinctly remember someone saying that it was Benedict from Triangle Strategy (who would also totally be able to get away with a murder). Also, were the subtitles auto-generated? Because a lot of them weren't quite there...notably missing the phrase "load of jizz". And Kevin, if you want to become the RNG killer, I would think all you'd ever need to do is become a really sadistic DM, right? Just make all the enemies super OP and watch people die! But you probably already knew that. As with the previous eps, I really enjoyed this one! One of these days, I hope you find the perfect anime plot to fool Simon.

You know, when it comes to the ethics of using genetic testing services like Ancestry or 23andMe, I feel REALLY torn. Like, I’ll use my story for an example: 40+ years ago, my dad was involved in drug crimes. He’s never killed or SA’d anyone, and came from a home of horrific abuse, to a foster home of horrific abuse, to fending for himself at 16. Everything he did, he did just to get by, and I’d be SO pissed if any genetic material I turned in for testing got him arrested. I’m happy we caught the likes of The Golden State killer, but I feel like we need to put optional safeguards in place to protect privacy. The amount of people willing to give up that basic human right in exchange for making life slightly easier is actually terrifying.

Simon, 3rd shift employees start work late at night and get out of work early in the morning. Companies that run 24 hours a day either have two 12 hour shifts or three 8 hour shifts. Start times vary, but typically first shift is 6am-2pm, second shift is 2pm-10pm and third shift is 10pm-6am.

On the topic of moving, yes, we have moving companies in America, but many people choose to move themselves rather than hiring someone else to do it (which can get rather expensive if you have a lot of stuff to move). We have companies like U-Haul where you can rent a moving van (or trailer, etc.) to move things yourself, and of course when moving large furniture it certainly helps if you have some friends to help out. I guess it's an American thing, as many Americans are more inclined to do things themselves rather than hiring other people to do things for them.

I joined an online show called “bored factory workers”(Even tho the only time I worked inside a factory was to do catering for them) and one of the three hosts fakes his death in a video. We filmed three videos that day. Two gross food challenges and the fake death. He foamed at the mouth using antacids and I even gave him advice on how seizure activity looked. They played it out for a week and then finally came forward and admitted that he was still alive. All of their fan base snapped and went nuts. It was the end of bored factory workers. It was over. It was done. No more food challenges or drinking competitions. A lot less puking.

Simon… my man, you gotta understand, America is a BIG place. If you drove nonstop straight from Texarkana, a city in eastern Texas to El Paso, a city in western Texas, it would take twelve hours. You can find moving companies that will have movers load and drive your stuff, sure, but it’s far more common to just rent a truck and do it yourself.

Got 5/5. It helped that I already knew the two true stories as I'd heard them many times before. As for the Tylenol tampering, it was an attempt to hide one murder among many. Make it look like a wider product tampering issue in the hope of getting away with the murder the tamperer wanted to get away with. As I recall, it didn't work.

Funny story about drinking and driving (not *really* funny, don't drink and drive, kids. Cars are 2-ton murder bots that shouldn't be trifled with when you can't even walk straight): An old mate of mine got sloshed one night and drove home. He was living at his brother's house at the time and borrowing his brother's car. He ran into a street lamp on the way home, basically totalling the car. No one was hurt. He did a runner and left the car, walking the rest of the way home. When police eventually showed up at the house, they found my friend drunk as hell, but they couldn't charge him with a DUI because he said he got drunk after the accident. He just got charged with a hit and run (which is only a misdemeanor if no one was hurt) and fined for damaging public property
