So about your plug, if you live in an apartment you actually might have light switch activated plugs. If you have a switch for your room that seems to do nothing, then try turning it in then using your broken outlet. I have these in my new apartment and it was so confusing at first. It is really great for lamps though!

For the tinsel garland, instead of wrapping it all the way around the tree in a spiral you can kind of zig zag it just across the front since you won’t see the back it won’t matter and you won’t have to get more
