I was crying right along with you. I understand exactly how you are feeling. My dad died on New Year’s Day 39 years ago when I was only 30. My mom died 9 years after he did in December. Both of their birthdays were in December. They both loved Christmas so much and each Christmas when I decorate and I get those items out that belonged to them or that they purchased for us, I spend days crying. I tell myself that they would want us enjoying those things and not keep them packed away. It keeps their memory alive but it cuts my heart in two. Just yesterday I was going through some Christmas linens and found an apron my mom wore every Christmas Eve. After all this time, I broke down and cried. I know both of my parents are in heaven celebrating with the Lord. I will say a prayer for God to give you strength, my friend. ❤🙏😊

I almost bought that exact Santa at Walmart today. Sometimes the "encourager" needs encouragement and no shame in asking for prayer. We've all been there! Losing loved ones is NEVER easy, but especially hard this time of year. God will show you the right thing to do, but it might not be the easiest thing to do. Feelings and emotions will be raw. I'm praying you are able to put out the precious collections your parents gave to your boys. I lost my husband last October and two days later was my granddaughters 16th birthday. Then Christmas. It was all wonderful💕 memories should bring us joy in remembering what a treasured experience your boys had with their grandparents. Put them out and smile at the memories you can rekindle. I prayed for God's comfort during the holiday season for you. My parents have been gone for a while now and I think of them but don't feel an emotional bond with them. I wish I did. Sweet Friend, I too have lost my Dear Mama. She was not only my mama, she was a best friend. I will certainly be remembering you in prayer. I not only lost my mama, but many years ago I lost my 19 year old son. He was killed by a drunk driver. The Holidays are always very difficult. We have a Mighty God to see us through. On Monday November 28,2016., we lost our son in a tragic accident. He was a Lineman and he was out trying to restore power. He was on a the pole working when a pine limb fell across his head and it tore his brain stem loose. It hit him so hard that it knocked his spikes from the pole and his safety harness cut the main artery in his left leg. He died instantly. Our son was 29 years old, with a wife and 2 small children. There isn't a day that goes by that I don't think of him and his beautiful smile,the love he had for people and the love he had for the Lord. So I understand you having a hard time at holidays. May God bless and wrap his loving arm's around you for comfort.

I read a really good book recently that helped me, "Good Grief." It gave me a different perspective on remembering our loved ones, how to deal with grief, and how to honor them each day. Instead of feeling empty, it gives the reader ways to gain strength from those who have passed and ways to understand they are still with us each day. Perhaps putting up the village is a way to honor those you love who are no longer here and would be a positive sign to your son that rejoicing in their memories keeps their spirits alive inside of us.

Hello my sweet, friend. I am so sorry for the late response, it has been quite busy around here the last few weeks. But, I do so appreciate you being here to support me. Thank you for the book suggestion, I will write that down and look it up this evening. I hope our library will have it on hand. I love how you have described its help and appreciate you sharing. We did get the village up and it was the most precious time for us all. I loved every minute of it and watching the boys be so invested and gaze in to it was just the cherry on top of it all. While I’m fortunate to have had my Daddy 20 years longer, the loss I feel inside is something that only God knows. Like you, I get very emotional because I miss them so much. Just remember there is no time limit on grief! I lost my mom 5 yrs ago. Her birthday falls on Thanksgiving this year, we are celebrating, her 100th birthday and thankful we had her as long as we did! Dear Deena, I totally understand your emotions. I lost my dad 40yrs ago at the age of 54. I was lucky to have my mom till 2yrs ago. I lost her to Covid. But when I think of them and how much I miss them I get the same way, I’m actually crying now typing this. You have my prayers and I wish I could be there to help you get through this trying time. Oh Deena I feel the pain of missing your parents. I lost mine many years ago and December is most difficult as we found out my dad was dying in Dec. We knew it would be his last Xmas. We still pushed through with the help of prayer and God's strength to enjoy the last Christmas. I hope you find the strength to bring out these precious items your sons associate with their grandparents. They too miss them and the village should become a happy memory, a healing moment when you set it up this year! Embrace the love and joy that your parents had and gave when they purchased these for their grandsons. I have witnessed several friends holding onto the pain of losing their parents to the detriment of their health and mental well being. Embrace your faith and know they are watching over you and the boys during this special season of joy, love and peace! With that said the vignettes were beautiful. I love both traditional colors but love the beauty of the neutral. Loved the Santa and collect them. My parents were able to find a balance between the Birth of our Lord and the childhood wonder of Santa. Being Catholic we recognize Santa as St. Nicholas. So he is always in our home along with a nativity set. Thank you Deena and prayers for you!

Marsha, I am so sorry for your loss and that you know the pain so well. We also found out about my momma in December, December 4th is her diagnosis day and that day might be harder for me than the date she actually passed, because I feel the 4th is the day took her away from us. This year I am going to find the strength needed to put it up not only for the boys but my parents as well. I am with you on the vignettes I loved the traditional colors and really felt it would make such a beautiful breakfast centerpiece but the neutral won my heart. Deena, I pray in the name of Jesus that your sadness will become Joy as you remember your precious parents at this holiday season. I pray that as you remember those special times with them, especially with the boys, you are able to be happy as you honor them in continuing their wonderful traditions. I pray blessings for you and your family as y’all celebrate the season. You are such a blessing to me, and I am thankful that The Lord has brought such a gracious lady into my life. I understand how you feel about your parents. I was fortunate enough to be raised by godly grandparents. Christmas time was always amazing to me. The stories of Christmases from long ago days, about great grandparents parents I never had the chance to know. However, because of their wonderful stories of their lives, I feel as though I knew them. Baking old fashioned layer cakes was one of Mama’s favorite traditions. From my earliest memories as a child, I remember Mama, Daddy, and me baking many cakes. Daddy and I would crack the nuts, including fresh coconut, and then grind them. Year after year we would bake. Daddy passed away first, and Mama didn’t want to bake anymore. I was grown, married, and had two girls of my own. The girls and I rallied Mama to bake in remembrance of all of the years baking with Daddy. The joy came back as we talked and laughed about all of those times together. Mama passed away in 2001, and I must say it’s hard still. I’m happy to say that the cake baking is still going. In fact, my youngest daughter and I had a little home catering business for many years. We named it Just Like Mama’s. I have four grand-girls that never met my grandparents, but they know them. They know them well. We will all gather together for the traditional baking of the cakes, using Mama’s recipes. It’s important to keep them with us through memories, traditions, and stories. As you begin to celebrate those memories with your boys, I think you will be amazed how our precious Heavenly Father takes the pain and turns it into joy. I hope that my words encourage you as you have truly encouraged so many. With love, God bless.

You are a huge blessing to me as well. I’m thankful for your faithfulness and friendship. I’m so thankful you had such loving grandparents and have so many memories. The memories are always the best to think back in and I’m so glad the Lord graces us with the best of them. I love your sweet memories with your parents as well. I’m so glad you’ve been able to keep them alive and going on to this day. We still talk about and do things that we did as children. Recipes are a huge thing here in our home. We love the idea of creating dishes they made so long ago. My momma and daddy had a restaurant that my brothers and I grew up in. Their love for food was huge in our family. My mom and dad were the best at it and made so many people happy with what they did. The only thing I have truly had a hard time with is the ornaments and village traditions. I think because that was something between them. I miss them so much and I know the boys do too. They loved them so. Thank you for watching and sharing with me today. I appreciate you. Hi Deena, I can relate to how you're feeling ,I lost my mom in 2017 and her birthday would have been Christmas day , but I cope by fulfilling a promise to take care of my daughter and passing on to her some of my mom's traditions. That way I pass on the values that I learnt and that way I'm keeping her memories alive. My grandmother told me once, that we weren't put on this earth to turn to stone, but to live by the grace of God and the memories that we leave , to last a lifetime. We do have a Super Walmart in my town but sadly it does not have the large selection that yours has (maybe they will get more in). A few weeks ago I did purchase the red berry garland that you showed. I purchased it for my dining room table to go with my red glass and also gold Christmas Trees. I'm hoping I like it. I do enjoy a splash of red in some areas at Christmas time. This year has been a struggle as the Hobby Lobby in Evansville was in the process of expanding and had very little Christmas decor out but was expecting 6 semi-loads in 2 weeks. I guess that's a good thing as I have saved money this year LOL and really don't need anything. Maybe I will get some great deals after Christmas. It's so hard to lose your parents, they are our life lines, are in every memory, have been there our entire lives. They taught us practically everything we know. Dina, I'm sorry I hit the "send" button by mistake...just wanted to say that I'm already crying, almost daily, remembering that my daddy was suffering at this time in the hospital and it was just so sad, so never apologize for the loss that you feel, yet at the same time, please think about setting up your kids villages, as a tribute to your parents. It would bring them great joy, as it would your boys. Your parents watch over you every day, and we both know they are always with us. It just might help the grief process a little, to set these up and tell your parents that it's for them. I'm sure it will make them smile. My mother loved the red cardinals, and each year we would go get a few new ones to add to our tree. I still do the same thing in getting at least 1 new addition, to honor her. Before I ever set up my tree, I tell God that this is for Him, to celebrate the birth of his son, Jesus. I hope that it will being Him joy and make Him smile. I do the same for my parents, and no matter how little I might have on it, it always seems brighter than ever. I will pray for you every day for you to get the strength to put up these villages and make your boys happy. It will be wonderful for them, and your parents as well. The vignetts are stunning, as always. I'm making a stop at Walmart later today. :) I hope I can do half as good as you. It is so hard because I know we do have a couple bigger store here in our city. Our hobby lobby is one of the two biggest in the country and I know we tend to have so much more there too. Hello, I enjoyed your video! Some pretty things, going to stop by Walmart. I've been looking for tinsel. I wish you and your family a joyous season!! I hope you decide to set up your Christmas Village. It might be good to bring out the village so everyone could share in the memories of your parents together. We're going through the same thing. Dear Deena, love and hugs from Australia. I'm so glad your boys had such lovely adventures with your parents. Maybe as part of the putting out the village process they could recount/write down their cherished memories of your folks/the outing that they had. Maybe trying to put each memory to the verse of a carol might bring some laughs. Maybe sharing tears together might help. My parents were older when they had me, and I married late, so my two never really did all that fun, cherished stuff with them. It shows in your loving heart, how well you got on with your parents. It is no shame to still be missing them, especially at this time of year. Maybe making a scroll with your hubbie and boys, with the full name of each of your parents down the LHS, and an attribute or memory that you love about them, starting with that letter eg a fruit of the spirit, a fond memory, or something about how they looked, after it eg KIM, K indness even when stressed I ncredible sense of humour M others love to many Have prayed for you and your family. He always helps us to will and work His good pleasure, especially as He can then use our hard stuff for others' benefit. Much love Deena and family.

Hello Alison, I am so sorry for the late response. Yes, they really did have so many great moments with my parents an I am so grateful for that. We did end up getting the village up and it is absolutely beautiful. We had the most wonderful evening together as a family getting it all out and put up. We even took the time to go and purchase other pieces to add to their collections. it was a magical evening filled with so many memories made and recounted. We do appreciate each and every prayer said on our behalf, they mean so much. I hope you have a wonderful week.

Hi sweet Deena - it was so odd to see you decorating with those colors. Ha. I believe even if you were a neutral kind of gal that Christmas is the one time you can get away with using the colors. I loved both vignette you put together. I do not like our Walmart here in town. It is just so nasty to me but I have ordered some things online from them that I was pleased with. You definitely can get more for your money there and it seems like the quality of things they have is much better than years past. Oh friend, I so feel your pain about the loss of your parents. I too lost my parents. My dad in 1995 and my mom and 2006. But I’m almost to opposite of you and how I want to get things out that remind me of them. It brings me so much joy and that’s what I’m going to pray for you too. It was especially hard to get past my mom‘s passing because the last few years of her life were so hard and she was not my mom anymore. Her mental condition was so bad. She had always been a mother like you could not believe. She lost her mom when she was eight years old so all the love that she missed she showered on my brother and I. It took a few years for me to not remember those last bad years but remember the wonderful mother we had all the years before. When my girls were little she made them a little white tree that she decorated with felt animal ornaments that she traced out of a coloring book. She stuffed them with filler so they would be puffy and she sewed sequins on and attached colored pipe cleaners to them to fasten on the tree. Those ornaments are over 50 years old now and we still get that little tree out and it brings so much joy to my girls. I definitely will be praying for you sweet friend as you go through this hard month but I will pray especially that you will get so much joy from all the things that brought you hurt before. Love in Christ.

I’m so sorry you have such a bad Walmart. I know that can be so disappointing. But, thankfully you have found so great items online. I was really happy with what I found and used this day. And, yes, the items were of great quality. I do pray I can get to the point where their things can bring joy. I love that I have them and something are easier to have around than others.
