Step by step I'll teach you how to make a beautiful champagne, wine or any other bottle, perfect for a special occasion. It's tempting to breeze through the initial prep and priming parts of the tutorial, (who wouldn't love to skip the boring stuff) but I've found that is the most important and most difficult part to get down. Once you have that down, I share some great decoupage tips to help make your projects look more polished and professional. As always, thanks for subscribing and sharing the projects you make. Happy Crafting.
My favorite varnish: amzn.to/3UAOVrV
My favorite chalk paint 8oz. : amzn.to/3QnutIe
My favorite chalk paint 32 oz: amzn.to/3QldgiQ
My favorite soft brush: amzn.to/3xRxIBA
My favorite less expensive alternative soft brush: amzn.to/3Wd0Qxd
My favorite delicate painters tape: amzn.to/3xRxIBA
* I am no longer using the flat sheet tape, I had a few issues with it tearing the label.

Planning on doing these in blue and white for my sister’s wedding shower. Thank you so much! This is actually easier than what I thought people were doing. I thought they were all hand painted, which I was intimidated by, but I can definitely do this for her special day ❤

Hi! My first time seeing this type of art ❤️❤️❤️ and I love it! I can’t wait to start my new projects !! Thanks for sharing your talent! I just have one question 🙋‍♀️ how do you keep your brushes clean and not sticky?
@craftingwithgretchen
@craftingwithgretchen 7 ай бұрын
I keep a mason jar with a little bit of dawn in it on my work station. (Water low enough to just soak the bristles) between uses on a project, I drop it in, then wipe when I move to the next coat. Then no hardening left in the air for even five minutes. Ideally I try to clean with dawn (or a paintbrush soap bar I have) to give a deep clean every couple of days. But I would do it right after a project is complete if you are only occasionally using. Wrapping it in Saran Wrap tightly between uses works as well (I do that with a paint brush) By that I mean between uses in same day/project. Hope that helps!

Just started doing these as gifts! Absolutely love them. I was using acrylic white paint as the base and tried the chalk paint after watching your video and it didn’t dry faster than the acrylic. In your opinion do the napkins crease less on chalk paint than they do on acrylic paint? I’m trying to still get that flawless look with no creases in the napkins.
@craftingwithgretchen
@craftingwithgretchen 3 ай бұрын
In my experience it dries faster and with a more even finish. I like the coverage I get with chalk paint, but whatever works best for you is always the ideal project! I think the flawless finish comes from multiple variables though.

I don't. That's why I like the standard gloss. I use three coats if I want it to feel high gloss. I do use the high gloss but it is much thicker and prone to drips.

Thank you so much for the AMAZING tips. Absolutely beautiful! When putting the designs on the bottle are you using the varnish gloss or mod podge? It looks like you were using the varnish before the designs then putting them on then let them dry and then for the final coat varnish/gloss again?

@craftingwithgretchen
@craftingwithgretchen 6 ай бұрын
Hmmm...that might be the case. If the background is much lighter than the base color of the napkin you can see it a bit. If you've when torn the tissue or using the water brush it helps but the color difference can still be obvious. If there are only small areas, sometimes I'll use a little of the background color to bridge the gap. Some seem to fade more with a few top coats. The last thing I'll say is that often, I'll notice all the little errors and details but others can't even see what I'm seeing.

Hi there! I've printed on napkin and decoupaged that which works really well once you iron out the kinks. I've decoupaged origami paper, and while it works, it just gives a very different look/feel. I have yet to print a photo on tissue. One tip for sure is to test varnish on printed photo first and allow paper to sit long enough for ink to dry. 😊

Could you still do this but skip the white paint step and skip to applying the napkins straight onto the bottle instead? I have a scotch bottle I want to do this to but I want to still be able to see through the bottle.. would you clear coat over the whole bottle or carefully apply the mod podge over just the decoration?
@craftingwithgretchen

last thing- how long do you wait before applying the all over gloss? and then how long before a final coat
@craftingwithgretchen
@craftingwithgretchen 6 ай бұрын
It depends, if using DuraClear takes less time to dry than mod Podge. I wait only like an hour after napkins before first gloss coat, then a couple hours at least in between coats. Then at minimum 24 (I prefer 48) before use to make sure it has fully cured.

So sorry I'm just now seeing this. I put the fan on them, and with chalk paint it doesn't take long to dry at all! Ideally I can do all priming one day but prefer to allow it to sit overnight before I do the decoupaging just to make sure it dries fully.

Hmmm..I don't have it that often. You mean when taking off the painters tape? Sometimes it is because of the specific label, some seem more fragile. Some tapes are more sticky. The few times I've had it happen I use paint to fill it in to cover the rip.

It's hard to say without seeing, but my first thought, if I'm understanding your comment is to watch how much paint you put in the pan and get on the roller. If I use a foam roller and don't put too much on, it doesn't have any texture at all. In the future, if you have put several coats on you can sand that outer layer. The best thing I have found to do that is the buffing blocks for nails. amzn.to/4bheX9E

I chilled this bottle in the fridge for about 10 hours and had it on ice for about an hour while we enjoied it. Success, the design was not altered in any way. I'll add the caveat that I didn't use any Mod Podge when making this, and every label is unique in how it will respond to water.
