In this video I look at the Decut Hock II archery finger tab. In this review I look at how you can customise your archery finger tab and compare the sizes of a medium and larger finger tab.

Thanks for this video. I've seen myself how the shelf plate causing a girl's jaw bleed instantly. Immediately i told her father to lower the shelf plate and put the thumb above the shelf plate. Tbh.. It's a frightening moment to experience..

The Hock 2 looks pretty much the same as the Hock 3. Might anyone know the differences? I will try to contact Decut.

Shelf isn't a thumb rest. Thumb should be outta the way. The shelf is intended to contact your jawline. Coach Kissik Lee - I have learned during lockdown III - recommends bone-to-bone contact between forefinger and jaw (reaons are pretty obvious: finger to jawbone = 2 x points of biomechanical feedback. Metal to jawbone = 1 x point of biomechanical feedback, and is therefore worse) Bone-to-bone contact between forefinger and jaw I cannot currently attain, because the plate of my size L Rugbii tab (with nothing else on it) sits just a tad too high (by my guesstimation, only by a coupla miliimeters). Hence I'm looking at these videos to get a sense of "OK, so what size/style should I buy for the Spring?" and Does the Hockii look like a decent alternative?" . . . . . and stone me!! You got your calipers out and did precise measurements - Thanks!!!

I suppose it's all personal preference. I just didn't like the metal plate along my jaw line. It just felt wrong to me and sometimes hurt a bit. I think my softer thumb id better for me. Thanks for the comments. Daniel

@@ArcheryblogUk In my mind, it's about biomechanical efficiency. The notion of forefinger on jawline is about consistent anchor AND bringing bowstring/arrow into optimum alignment with the eye, while placing the drawing elbow behind the string. Anything that interferes would seem to be detrimental. I guess you'd need to have a good coach look at your form and your scores to know if personal preference was giving you an advantage, or holding your scores down :-D I'm thinking seriously about ditching a Lge RugbII, in favour of a Med HockII, to see if that enables me to get the alignment I'm after. Right now, I get the top edge of the plate jammed into my jawbone. If the plate was sufficiently smaller, I'd hope to get good finger to jaw contact. Given that you went back to a medium from a large Hock II - any thoughts you'd care to share, on how different they feel in use?

@@philipsturtivant9385 going to a large is like your hand has grown. But it's difficult to compare a worn-in medium tab with a brand new large tab with new leather. Although if you move back to a medium after shooting a large - the medium seems tiny. I'll have to do some more research I think and try them both again.

Can the leather be replaced?

No, I haven't seen spares. You could always try and cut your own, I suppose.

@@ArcheryblogUk If I cut my own leather, is there a way to install it?

Now that I have received my Hock 3, I see that the entire tab can be disassembled by unscrewing a number of allen-head screws. The leather can be removed and a simple pattern can be made.
