Each series you make is better than the last and it seems like every single element like mic placement to lighting was done with patience and absolute perfection. I've watched this guy for a long time and he's progressed at an insane rate. He has almost a half million subscribers and counting. I'm not sure of his label/management/promotion status but, if he's missing any of those he shouldn't be. No stick tricks or anything like that. Just pure talent. People can say what they want about his drumming but you don't see any video responses do you.
@hoid424 жыл бұрын
Every time man. Goosebumps, energy, jaw on the floor. Some drummers are excellent because they put in all of the hard work, and it shows. They deserve every plaudit they get. But then you get someone like Cobus, who clearly put in the hard work, but also just has something else entirely. He's like the Simone Biles of drumming - he makes incredibly complex stuff look so flawless it is impossible to look away. And it blows my mind to think that this was his level of drumming 8 YEARS AGO O.o
@GeneralDioxide9 жыл бұрын
This has to be one of my favorite drum covers on youtube. The reason is that Cobus in this video found the perfect feel for this song. His playing included dynamics, using his full set wisely, creativity, and groove. I adored this, cooperdrummer I can care less.

I used to drum long time ago, in a galaxy far away, haha. I used to be really good, scholarship and all. Played with many local bands, also did some recording and even played with orquestra as freelance for about 12 years. I was really good at reading music. I think economy got in the way... Now I do something else for a living. Back then I thought I could be just as good as Tony Royster or Dennis Chambers if I practiced enough... After the years I've learned that not only economy got in the way, but also bad teachers I had along the way, and keeping it real I guess my talent and imagination just wasn't good enough. I listen to your music and I would have never come up with those fills and combinations. I know I had the ability to do them. But I do remember not being able to improvise or to show off. It's very important for kids to listen to many styles, but more importantly to CREATE music and not depend on metronome or sheet music to perform. Back when I played people would ask me if I had heard of a drummer or a band... I hadn't because I was so busy reading music and not actually listening to music or creating it.

The most difficult thing in playing music is to be able to control the instrument you play like you want. Well, this is a perfect example of instrument control. When you can play drums in a song which has NO drums (well, there is just a beat but we cannot consider it a drum track) in a great way like this (man there are some fills and stuff that drove me crazy, they are simply incredible) it means you are simply great. And that is what you are Cobus, one of the best inspiration for me since I started playing drums. You are simply amazing. It is clear that you tried this track again and again until it was perfect to be caught on video and trust me, it is. Keep the good drumming going on and kick asses as always dude!

This is probably my absolute favorite of your videos. The dynamics are incredible. My aspiring 13 yr old son especially loves the beginning snare. As stated previously, I could watch all of your videos everyday. You are definitely one of the most inspirational drummers around. Of course I had my influences in drumming, from Lars, Vinny Paul, to Buddy Rich, Terry Bozio. But especially at the end....you just nailed it and YOUR TRULY HAVING FUN, which in turn makes the viewer want to go down to their kit and play. That is truly inspiring. In my home "Cobus" has become a household name! LOL! Dad - let's watch some Cobus video's my son tells me. Keep uploading! LOVE IT! Thanks for all you do Cobus!

Hey Cobus I am also a South African Drummer (played for 5 years in my Chruch band, mainly doing Hillsong United stuff) and I really love your drum covers! Your technique and expertise is amazing and I see you as my Drumming Hero! My trouble is that I haven't been pro-actively practicing, (and sorta did the most terrible thing by not practicing my parradidles,I know the Worst mistake any drummer can make!) Is it possible for you to do like a video where you show us what parradidles you do and maybe how to progress from a simple one to more complicated like what you do? Would love to see such a video or just show us your warm up routine ;) I love your videos and will always follow your content!

@Mayhemzz10 жыл бұрын
It's just sound samples arranged to a rhythm. There's no actual musical skill involved in creating it, it's all just editing really. If he had any real talent he'd (probably) still be singing.
@2809kev10 жыл бұрын
Mycaruba And it sounds shit. Love Cobus, but couldn't sit through this song.
@zDrumRockerz10 жыл бұрын
Mycaruba well, it takes not only musical skills but musical talent to be able to arrange dubstep from basically nothing. That's what i think if you describe music as singing and talents like cobus, then your range of music does not exceed the true meaning of music anything can be music, it's rhythm+sound.
@cortarelva10 жыл бұрын
Mycaruba Man music isn't just about technical skill. Performing talent is one thing but composing music is another level. There are a lotos great players but those that stand out are the great composers no matter what type of music they make. Those are really one in a million. Go try and make a song on a daw just using samples and you will see its not just editing, you have to be creative or else it will be just some uninspired heartless thing.

I just wanna say, Cobus is not a recording studio. Luke Holland is. Yet Cobus's kit is lower end compared to Luke's. Luke uses samples. Cobus does not. The audio here is much better with the bare basics. Not saying Luke is a bad drummer, far from it. I enjoy them both, but this is proof you don't need the most top notch gear to make good videos and even top notch gear can sound terrible.
@876CUBES10 жыл бұрын
hey question what do mean by luke uses samples i listen to them both?
@101point5TMG10 жыл бұрын
876CUBES His kits sound is not a natural sound. The real sounds are replaced with artificial sound.
@876CUBES10 жыл бұрын
oh ok . well lukes kits sounds natural to me . why do you say that tho i never really hear him say he uses samples????
@101point5TMG10 жыл бұрын
876CUBES You can tell. Cameron Mizell has been mixing his most recent and you can hear the samples loud and clear. If they're not actually samples, It's terrible mixing.
@littledrummerboy73810 жыл бұрын
I think Lukes drums sound fine... i believe Luke rushes his covers more than Cobus does when it comes to production and therefore the quality is not as high as with Cobus'. And idk why you say this is a good example of not needing top notch gear to sound good... im sure Cobus would sound amazing on any kit but he uses pretty damn good gear.
