11:25 This sounds slightly odd to me, and when I rewound to 3:35 I managed to figure out why. In that first wave you made in the wavetable you ended up with a very strong 6th overtone, which is a m7. It kept sounding like you were playing a 7th chord, but it was just the balance of the spectrum that was doing it. Perhaps worth mentioning that when making wavetables you might want to check the lower overtones and see whether the balance is making it sound chordal, as that's not always something you want (I didn't notice this effect in the original patch you played for us). I'm sure you know this stuff Chris, but I thought that discussing it might be useful for people who wondered, as I did, where that 7th note was coming from!

I play on a Push and my favorite chord is a minor 7th so the chances that I was using it during the creation of this tutorial are pretty high. That said, your theory is somewhat correct that certain frequencies do get amplified in the wavetable creation process, but I try and design patches that are playable across all regions of the keyboard and don't emphasize certain notes.

@@s1gns0fl1fe Thank you for the reply, Chris. We all have our favourite chords; mine's probably a m6! But I did notice when you scanned through the wavetable the 7th was prominent only at the first keyframe, so I assumed it was coming from the spectrum. Vital is an incredibly useful synth, and the wavetable editor is fantastic. Thank you for the video!

just wow, i think seeing these and playing around with them myself is really helping me understand just how deep you can make one chord sound... no automation for pitch bending or velocity or anything you can do it all with wavetables and some imagination

great tutorial! I'm brand new to music production. Dub techno is my favorite, and naturally i found your channel! I don't have ableton, working with free daw for now. I LOVED your ambient dub techno tutorial, however im having difficulties making a Dub Stab in Vital. I tried following what you did with the wavetable in ableton, but i have yet been able to produce a great result. Would love a tutorial on a stab in vital!

Hi, Chris. Really awesome tutorial. I am collecting sounds from everyone, who posts about vital. Really glad that we can learn from you, guys, and create our music on your foundations. I have a question, though. I cannot figure out how to load our own samples into the vital sample bank (I am not talking about presets). Could you give me a tip on it or direct me to another video. Thanks.

It is a representation of a keyboard. If you imagine the upper row are the black keys you can work it out
@VirtualModular
@VirtualModular Жыл бұрын
Think that's a lot of random modulation? VCV Rack: "Hold my beer" 🤣 That's a great sounding pad but I've never got into Vital. I think I just find modular more flexible and like to make sounds from scratch. You can also use polyphonic mod and have independent modulators on each note for example, which is great. I should have another look at Vital though, you can never stack too many layers!
@VirtualModular
@VirtualModular Жыл бұрын
@@zor5559 you can do all that with the free standalone version, Pro just allows you to run it as a VST in other software. Most free modules are polyphonic now as well.

Marketing comment: I’m a couple minutes into this and I’m already losing interest since the beginning of this is an advert for a subscription service that I wouldn’t know if I wanted because you haven’t told me anything yet. I’ll keep watching out of respect of course, but I just want to offer some unsolicited advice that few people on KZbin want to hear about your Patreon until AFTER they are convinced what you have to say is essential to improving their lives in some way, not before.

With Vital you have the ability to "split" the stereo image using the "stereo" modifier on the bottom right. Try it on any wavetable or filter!

@Virosaa

@@astrovicis eq doesnt help bro. The tones just get too high and eq doesnt eliminate it unless you want to cut out a large dynamic out of the track. Serum doesn't have that annoying "whining"sound
@astrovicis
@astrovicis 4 ай бұрын
@@Virosaa I had a problem awhile ago when I was complaining that serum was simply superior to vital bc vital couldn’t do FM the same way that Serum could. It turned out that I was playing like a C5 instead of a C1 like I was trying to; you 100% that your midi keyboard is on the right octave? That’s what it was for me anyway 🤷🏻‍♂️
@Virosaa
@Virosaa 4 ай бұрын
@@astrovicis Its not a key problem. You will hear the problem specially when creating ambient music. 90% of the time there is this high pitched ear piercing sound with almost all wavetables. Even if you lose the frequencies in filters. If you cut after a certain frequency,lets say 10k it reduces it but you lose a lot of air and high octave sounds just to get rid of the ear piercing high pitched whines. Reverb makes it even worse.
