My Grandfather fought at this place with the Canadian Scots. Some how he managed to survive this bloody conflict as well as other battles during that time.

We appreciate his sacrifice. It was a bloody end to a lost war and a tragedy even by the standards of that horrible war how the Nazis destroyed the northern European countries on their retreat with mindless defense that was doomed to failure.

I too had a relation who fought at the canal. My uncle was Can Scot, and he was wounded when crossing it in a dinghy. The shrapnel from the mortar was still coming out if his body until his death in the 70s.
