Something that I think almost every pro seems to not account ENOUGH for when doing replay analysis is this: At low ranks, you have to count on your mate missing a large percentage of their shots/touches. This means that plays like booststeals and bumps/demos quickly become not only risky, but unfeasible in most situations. And not only because your teammate might miss the ball - but the player whom you are giving advice often has little awareness of stuff like their mate's boost, and their mate is likely preoccupied with trying to just get a good touch, they are not reading the player's bump play, so they are not likely to either recognize it or be able to keep the ball close. I recognize that thinking in this way leads to way more back rotation, but my experience is that in low ranks, it is almost doubly as important to let you teammate just know that you are behind them, so they don't have to make the perfect touch - and you do this through consistently rotating behind them rather than going in front of them for boost or bumps. It's conservative, but in my experience, you cannot discount the disability of lower ranks to hit those things that pros often become unaware that they are expecting of their mates.
@FredMo6 ай бұрын
Thought the same. When he switched ball cam of and waited to go for the demo, he needed to check if his mate managed to take the ball at all. Can't fully trust in these ranks. The consistency ist not perfect. Also the thing with the passes, you give up the backup if your teammate messes up just for a pass that nearly never comes in these ranks. In this situation 95% of the players go for ground to air solo.
@guryurfur5286 ай бұрын
Very well said. Even at GC1 this is applicable.
@Kyuubiboy3216 ай бұрын
@@guryurfur528 agree hard. I mean bump plays do become more feasible to some degree, but expecting your mate to make the right decision or have the precise touches and awareness is still a bit dicy.
@lopsidedpotato6 ай бұрын
I'm replying before seeing the play you're referring to, and you're absolutely right to an extent, but there definitely are times where its a great play (at least at champ+). High commit steals or demos I agree, but playing in a way where those plays are less committed and/or taking them opportunistically (i.e. I'm first man and end up pushing it into their corner, looking for a boost steal and a demo during your rotation out can be so huge). Edit after watching the play at 26:45, I completely agree with jack here since his teammate has the free-est possession in the world, and especially since he can see you go for the demo. Will it be a goal as often as in higher ranks, no but its still a very high percentage play, and after looking for the demo, you really should be back again before a counter. One thing I've learned from getting higher ranked in valorant, is taking good risks and trusting your teammates to an extent is essential. I'm a semi-mechy player for champ, so my rule of thumb is if I see my teammate and think -- that's free -- give them the trust and respect to do at least something productive with it while enabling them, or covering for them as best you can depending on the situation. (this all goes out the window once you realize you got one of *those* teammates)
@Kyuubiboy3216 ай бұрын
@@lopsidedpotato It definitely can be, it's all about doing it at the right time and along with the tempo of the play. Often, I find myself wanting to pressure in opponents corner because it's an opportunity to catch them off guard, but my mate is out in the other opponent corner getting their remaining boost. This is often a good play, but what if I miss my challenge? Then my mate is too far away, if the ball goes right through and we get scored on. If my mate had instead rotated back directly without their corner boost, we would not have been scored on, but maybe he would still be at a disadvantage. And my main point is just that rotating back directly is often the better play at my level (C3 and below, maybe sometimes GC1), simply because my mate sometimes overcommits and/or misses his touch. I wasn't referring to a very specific play btw - only that Jack is recommending getting bumps and going for corner boosts almost at the very beginning, and while these plays could be good in those specific situations that he commented on, people seem to take them as rules to do everytime, and I'm arguing that they should be the exception rather than the norm, especially for c1 players.

Just wanted to give a huge shoutout to you Jack. This video really helped me understand what's going wrong when I'm playing in C1. Leth's RTSSL videos helped a lot as a base but he holds back so much and makes perfect touches so it can be hard to learn from. I loved that you were able to breakdown a real champ player's game from a reasonable standpoint of not expecting us to just yeet it to the backwall everytime and pray or play super defensive like some youtubers try to teach.

I love that you go in depth. can you explain different scenarios in the corner, offensive and defensive. this was less clear in the video. especially when you return fast along the wall and it bounces from the wall near the corner or from the corner itself. how do you keep possession? usually I try to touch the ball preventing it from going mid. then it bounces to my opponent and I loose possession and get a goal.

For those stuck in C1, I climbed to C 3 in a month from C1. Do these things: Work on your kickoffs(u can do that by playing ones) and second that learn when to soft touch and when to hard touch. Also boost starving works a lot and Demos too. Do these 4 things you'll get unstack. Hope This Helps

Jack, one thing that may be confusing for these champ- players is stealing boost. Maybe you could talk about when it's a good time to steal boost and when it's not. A lot of it is situational, but there's still situations where you should always should or always shouldn't.

As a C3 player playing with low sensitivity (1.2 for both aerial and steering), moving into GC is hard when I cant turn on ground plays or aerials as quick as opponents.

Because he likes to play with dominus my first advice would be to weaponise that and learn flicks since dominus give so much power out of nowhere, in c1 a good flick is 80% of time goal. After the first 1 or 2 he can threat the flick and go for a pass instead... His offense would skyrocket.

Jack, do you ever think of the game in terms of one player On-The-Ball and the other player covering the Net (on defense) and then on offense, the concept or “stacking” or layering your team so that person on ball is in front and person off ball is layered slightly behind player with ball so that they can cover net?

30:35 I think he jumped, and I would have as well mostly because we have been burned so often by somehow not touching the ball. Somehow when situations like this happen, the ball just floats past my car. I think it's just reading how close the ball is to the wall that is the issue and not the jumping. It's really hard to tell exactly how close the ball is to the wall.

I’m d3 in 1s. Don’t rlly play 2s but I’ve peaked c3, I am horrid mechanically. Can’t airdibble. I play on the ground mainly. Passing and positioning are what I’m good at. My recoveries suck. I generally play passive due to this, but I do also tend to carry my 2s games. I want to get out of diamond in 1s and out of champ in 2s. My actually question is what’s the best way to learn mechanics, I’m on pc so I have resources, but I feel if I up mechanics I’ll be able to rank up. Beyond that any other/general tips are appreciated. Thanks.
