Galapogas! Truly, your psychic powers are strong. Just yesterday I was looking for a good video on turns and found none I liked. So thank you for this. Incidentally, I play the first line of Song for my Father as a warm-up each day because I find its series of turns very challenging to do consistently.

Gallops on gas 🤣 Your channel is a gold mine Jeremy. I'm still doing unit 1 of fundamentals book 1, and the drone exercise would benefit massively from some of the information you share here. Will start adding (tastefully hopefully!) turns to some of my lines. As part of dedicating 2023 to trying to take my beginner jazz chops to the next level, I also fished out a 1001 Jazz Licks book I bought not long after starting to play 3 years ago, and am using that to complement your material. Slow and steady wins the race, or at the very least means I'll enjoy the journey more and am more likely to stick with it.

Of course, it depends on your skill sets and goals, but I usually say once you can play a simple Bach invention or Chopin Prelude, you will have enough skills to get started.

What would help is some acoustic treatment for the room, and bringing the mic closer to his voice. And then the piano needs the mic to be further way, because it clips often (the distortion you can hear on many of the notes). I'll leave a specific concise comment with unsolicited suggestions (everyone's favorite kind!) under a new video after he returns from his honeymoon, if the room sound seems to be still a work in progress at that point. I'm going to watch either way (and assume most people would), so it's not like the biggest deal. Maybe that could be a motivation for US - hey, the paid lessons are mic'd nicer! Either way, I let the ads run on mute while typing this, hoping that gets tallied in, but who knows.

Great lesson! I know turns on descending lines are the most common, but can't you just use a note below for a turn on an ascending line? Galapagos
