Birds, squirrels, raccoons, gophers, and possums, oh my! They all love my garden, too. The one pest I'm not plagued with out here are deer.

Where I am in SoCal, I’m rather jealous that Lou can set down a fig on the grass and it isn’t immediately covered with ants! Organza bags help a lot, but some of my figs get way too many ants in and on them anyway. There’s always something! 😉

Thanks to your recommendations... I blindly put a Peter's Honey into the ground at my new place here last Fall. It is now my best fig already!!! Creamy honey goodness... Me and my son both LOVE it. Thank you. I do have a Smith and Italian 258/Genevese Nero AF in the ground as well. About to add in RdB, VdB, CdDG, JH Adriatic, Azores Dark, and Figo Preto this Fall.

The fact that I actually understand all those acronyms suggests that I may have spent a little too much time watching fig videos! But I have many of those as young trees or recent grafts as well. I look forward to next year when more of my varieties will be fruiting and I can judge for myself!

@@margaretmarshall3645 Same boat then! They totally get better every year for the first few years as well. Ripening sooner too.

I’m sooooo glad you made this video. I have several Mt Etna trees and although they are delicious I noticed they mostly have the same berry figgy taste. My 2 favorites are RLBV and Makedonian Dark. I have a LSU Tiger 2 yrs old, but first year inground. It has one fig on it. No where near ripe. My Peters Honey produced a huge breba this year that was knock out delicious and incredibly sweet. It’s now starting to ripen 2 of its main crop. Just like what happened to you happened to me a few days ago. I have a beautiful Jurupa fig tree that produced its first 3 figs this season. It’s on the deck right near my back door. They were just about ripe I said tomorrow morning they will be ready. Walked out the back door in the morning all 3 figs were gone. Not half eaten, completely gone. Now I’ll have to wait till next season to taste one. Debbie’s fig bread looks wonderful. Is it possible to put the recipe in the description or maybe post it on the Ourfigs forum? My husband wants me to make one for him. Thanks so much for sharing.

Thanks Lou, always a pleasure to listen a wise lecture on all things. What's your take on Peter's Honey as Kadota variant?
@loumonti10 Жыл бұрын
Hi there! Yes, I'm aware that there are those that have proposed that Peter's is the same as Kadota. I remember reading that on Edible Landscaping's web site once. In my opinion (having grown them both) they are definitely not the same. Thanks for watching. Lou Monti
